If you spread it near the ant mound and not directly on the ant mound, you will have a better chance of eradicating all queens. Fire ants now have mounds that might contain queens from different "families". It is likely they will relocate the queens and eggs without fully destroying the mound if it is overly disturbed.

This thing really works. I live in a house, and I spread all around my house, and the ants are no longer inside my house. If you really want to kill the ants from inside your home, you actually need to kill the ants from the outside of the house where the ants actually come from. It really works. After one time of spread, I've never used it for a year.

I just used this on a 40+yr old ant mound in my backyard in New Mexico. We've used everything you can think of... No we didn't think of the environment we only wanted to murder ants. Now hopefully we can enjoy our backyard.

I sprinkled this around the mound one early morning. They took the bait into the mound that day. However the next day, they had piled up the bait up just outside the mound as if they knew it was poison just like in this video. I guess they feed it to the workers first before feeding the queen. Killed some But did not destroy the mound. They relocated about 15 yards and made another mound. A waste of money.

Are you sure it killed the colony? Or did they move to the other mound? We have found that by putting it around the mound the bait is stolen by native ants that we don't want to kill. On top that did not happen. Drowning the nest with fipronil is the sure fire way to kill them. Uses about 3 liters of spray per mound.

Saw the video and it reminded me of a video i watched a few years back. Guy had some ants in his yard so he sprinkled poion on nest. It killed most of the ant hill but when he tried on other nests all the bait was moved off the other mounds. Seems ants learn fast if they are close to each other.

I had this issue. In my case, they had built in my stone columns and along the concrete patio. I initially sprinkled it along the concrete in the grass. In the first few days it killed 90% of the infestation (about 15-20 feet) across the concrete & grass, but they got smart, stopped taking the bait, and expanded again. I followed up with an aggressive dump of 10 gallons dish soap mix, but I'm still needing a bait method to kill the ones living inside the stone column and beneath the concrete.

I just applied this to a small fireant bed and I watched the ants pull an army together and remove all of the bait that fell into the cone of the mound. It's a bit disheartening. I watched a couple of groups carry the bait about 2 feet away and place it on the ground. Then ho back for more.

If you can find the nest all you have to do is pour white vinegar over the area. I repeat at least three times until they move the queen and then the problem is solved. No poisons to pollute the environment and no need to kill the ants.

I have used the perimeter ant bait that they sell, not the fire ant bait, and I can say that it takes care of carpenter ants pretty well. I do have some really big carpenter ant mounds near my house this year for some reason. I think it's because we have some old dying tree stumps where we had tree work done a couple of years ago. I have treated twice with Amdro & it did kill a lot, but they seem to have been coming back. I'm now trying this "quick kill" home perimeter insect killer that they make.

This product did not work for me. It looked promising, no activity on the surface after a few days but when I broke the mound open there were still thousands of ants. Anybody find a good product for South Texas fire ants?
@WaltWW
@WaltWW Жыл бұрын
Another product is Extinguish Plus (0.25% s-methoprene + 0.36% hydramethylnon) the compound s-methoprene sterilizes the queen ants. Amdro active ingredient is 0.73% hydramethylnon, a metabolic inhibitor which works more slowly than typical insecticides like pyrethroids or natural pyrethrins which kill the insect quickly. The advantage is that is is able to be spread into the nest by the ants and affect more of the colony over time to get better long term control. They have to be applied when there is no rain for several days to a week to allow the ants to forage the bait and return it to the colony. If it rained soon after you applied it the active ingredient will be washed into the soil and the granuels become ineffective. (Disclaimer: This is not advice and I am not a licensed pest control applicator, this is simply my experience as a professional homeowner.)

This is actually the proper way of using the bait. The instructions says to actually not put it ON the mound at all (like in this video) or disturb the mound as you will. You're supposed to sprinkle it 1-3 feet radius AROUND the mound. You're scenario will work.

Follow up: one of the two Aunt lines I could not access the mound so I put it in the lines of their travel and it worked perfect. While the other lines of ants I was able to access the mound and did as the instructions said. I haven't seen any ants since I first wrote my reply to this thread. The product works great I highly recommend it to anybody that deals with ants that are carnivorous not necessarily sweet ants.

I came here because I am Concerned about putting the poison into the watershed. Any recommendations on how to avoid this? Can I put the poison into a little cap and put it in the window seal where I know rain water won’t travel? I also don’t want my dogs to get it.
@BobbyRay69

If you still need a solution, u can cut a black trash bag to size to fit around the mound and brace it down with some bricks so no air to get under it to cool it off.(don't disturb the mound) Just let the sun do its work. If the temperature under the bag is hitting over 100°f they would die off in 2 to 3 days.

Hi and Thanks for sharing, Do you recommend this product? I live in Ontario Canada and as of right now can not find a retailer other than amazon and I also hate buying anything on line. but will if it will kill the ants I have all around the property. Currently I am battling ants, yellow jackets and either moles or voles. i am hoping for a biblical flood to get rid of them all or winter will do. Thanks again.

I recommend a pest control company because you’re going to need more than one product to get rid of all those different issues but if you do want to do it your self. I recommend niban bait granule for ants and other insects or if specifically fire ants use a water activated granule like Bifen. For yellow jackets if they’re nesting on the house try knocking the nest down or spray them with wasp freeze 2 it’s drops them immediately. And for rodents in the ground that is extremely hard to get rid of but gassing them out or setting traps may work. But all that can get pricey so if you plan to spend money to get rid of them I suggest a pest control company that’ll do all of that

@@WaltWW They absolutely check out .... and if you look in the video you can see that they carried the bait and moved it off of the mound from where he original sprinkled it. Those fire aren't stupid ... ant mounds can have tunnels several feet deep .... they will abandon and evacuate the surface and stay in the ground just long enough for the conditions are right or for the next rain, and that is when they will make they're move, and pop-up some where else. As soon a anything harms or has the potential to harm the mound, they automatically go into defense/ protection mode.
