The behavior analysis for paid AVs vs WD is something I agree with, but this was not a fair test IMO. A valid test would have been to use the free versions of BitDefender/Kaspersky and then test with the paid versions, this way it would show if it's worth paying for AVs and how the extra features perform. I think there should be more focus on best practices than to pay for an AVs and hope that it protects you, first layer of defense is the user, second layer is browser/adblocker (yes, I know adblock is not an AV, but will help so they don't fall for malware ads when downloading software), third layer using a good password manager that locks after a few minutes, and backing up (I don't mean syncing) your data to the cloud or local NAS. Added bonus is to use Chromium PWA for discord and such so it has some sort of filtering, network wide DNS filtering is another option. Completing the above will significantly reduce the impact and make recovery much easier for zero-day info stealers or ransomware, after that I would consider paid AVs as an option for those high-risk individuals.

@@saganandroid4175absolutely not. Password managers are centralized and encrypted databases that store your passwords (which can be extremely long alphanumeric strings for safety) that are not able to be memorized. If you aren’t using a password vault, you are likely either using your memory - and a memorizable, reused weak password - or an unsecured browser keylist. You also didn’t touch on a different topic, reliability. I’ve been using computers for a long time now (30 years), and had my share of experience with anti viruses both during my personal work and my professional work. And most 3rd party antivirus software were sometimes (not always) the cause of issues in windows. May it be unexplained slowdowns like people at my work experience from checkpoint antivirus, unexplained network connectivity drop outs, and sometimes even worse bsod. Windows defender from the start (even from its early xp days) was always reliable, never locking files, never interrupting work, and nowdays even have dev mode when it have relaxed settings not to slow down development compilation. There is no argument that its protection is worse than professional antivirus software, but in my experience none of the 3rd party software came close to the reliability it offers. As a software developer, when u hear the machine has only defender running i know i have to look elsewhere for blaming things for not working, but otherwise the antivirus is always a suspect. So yes, its a tradeoff, but if the choice is for no antivirus and defender which is very reliable, the defender fits the bill.

Back in XP days, I used to work for tech support at a big ISP... Clients that would be unable to get to use Internet, caused by anti-virus (Norton and McAfee were the worst ones), happened on a daily basis. I don't get why people believe that Windows Defender could ever be as good as a 3rd party AV. The reality is that a company like Eset, Kaspersky, Bitdefender etc. have a sole purpose: Creating an AV/Firewall, with some bells and whistles. As for Microsoft? Well, they have an entire OS they're running and the most important part about that is making sure that the OS' vulnerabilities are patched in a timely manner. There is a reason why they always come out with patches. The AV/Firewall they have? THAT is the bells and whistles.

I'm not sure if that's the best way to look at it. While it's true that companies like ESET or Bitdefender are dedicated to creating security products, they "only" have around 2000 employees. Reportedly, Microsoft has the "equivalent of 34,000 full-time engineers working toward its Secure Future Initiave". This includes much more than only endpoint protection of course, but I'm just saying that the manpower behind Microsoft Defender could very well be comparable to that of say ESET or Bitdefender.

I'd also run Malware-byes, and BitDefender free extensions in the web browser to pre-scan everything. I already had plans to leave but that was the final strike. Once uninstalled, everything was happy.
@Mostima115Күн бұрын
Makes one wonder how you two managed to bring it to that, I have been installing Bitdefender on other people PCs and my own for 10+ years now and not a single one ever created issues for the system, and none of those PCs were high end, so they would have noticed a system impact right away, same for the LAN adapter drivers ofc. Only problems that ever came up were some false positives that confused one Person and another managed to catch a zero-day, who ended up losing the data on his desktop and some things from the main folders, which was pretty low damage for a zero-day and I don't think that any other AV would have done much better on that one. The Person who had that zero-day also admitted that he downloaded stuff from some "trust me bro" sites. And no, I am not defending Bitdefender, it's simply the standard here and our experience with it, also had some that choose Kaspersky in the past, but ofc ever since the war started that option is no more, supporting a Russian company means supporting the Russian state at the end of the day.

replaced windows defender with malwarebytes, i feel like it actually saved me from a couple of viruses as windows defender in the past was just sleeping on the same threats also automatic sample submission and this kind of crap is also part of why i don't like defender, not only is their detection behavior an absolute joke, but they double down in just building a database of common detections (which btw, still misses some of the major ransomwares from years ago), it's hilarious.

Im using Windows Defender for years now. I mean, are free versions of other av really better than Windows built in? I don think so. They also install many built in VPNs even if you can’t use them in their free version. I’m just not of a fan and want my system to be optimised. Also such paid Programms are too aggressive for gaming

I ain't hating or anything, but comparing a free product to premium security suites is a bit... Uhh. Still, nice video. Maybe you will compare WD to free versions of Kaspersky and Bitdefender next?
@AyySorentoКүн бұрын
We need more WIndows Defender videos honestly. So many people are still under the impression that Defender is absolute garbage but in the past 5 or so years, Defender is almost unrecognizable. It's a much different product in a good way. Yes, people can still trash on it all they want if they personally do not like it, but at least help educate them to understand that it's in a different playing field now and those people might want to take a second look since it's probably been years since they last thought of it.

Windows in its default state exposes more than 30 services some of which are 30 years old. I'd say that anti-virus is the most overhyped and least important part of security. Microsoft is one of the worst offenders with this security theater making it so that you can't turn off resource wasting and redundant scans that slow your fast machine into something 1/3 as fast as it should be. In fact anyone should be wary of things that claim they are going to take away choices for your own good. In fact I'd go as far as to say that people should have some legal framework for asserting rights over the devices they own. This notion that you can buy a box and be locked out of its control should be illegal... quite simply because the potential for abuse isn't some future problem, companies are already using this exact precept to do all kinds of invasive spying on their users/customers.

Bitdefender vs kaspersky

I think you have been going off-rails in terms of content since last year, building almost EVERYTHING around either praising Kaspersky's & Bitdefender's functions and known protection features or dissing WD. Like, in 10 out of 6 videos uploaded, they always circulate around the same topic always and i think it really is getting somewhat boring/unprofessional. While some other videos circulate around topics like testing other AVs against unknown malware or any other security related content, this really is the sh1t line if you ask me. Not to mention also not giving needed information of some AVs for "privacy reasons" like showing an AVs toggled features or used test files in the video, it's mostly leaving a distaste for everyone and no one says anything about it since your followers cannot take the slightest of criticism.

Not saying Kaspersky is "bad", but it's Russian owned and does have ties with it's government. Not to get political, but that alone is a security risk. Since 2016, experts have said to avoid Kaspersky. It may do well in malware tests but it could also be funneling your data to another country. Not saying it is, but also not saying it isn't. If you want an AV solution that is not based in the US, go Bitdefender.

@@AyySorento LOL thats funny. So Russia=bad, US=good? US government can spy on me, but Russian one cant? Are those "experts" western propaganda media? Funneling data to another country is a funny statement, since you're probably using Windows and other Microsoft shitty products , as well as using various Google's services and kernel-tied software (especially if you're a gamer). Same with China's hardware/software which is a plague. Please stop watching "experts" and start fetching informations on your own from various sources, not only the US ones
