Great video! Question about motion control shoes . . . I'm over 65 and I've been wearing a stability shoe, New Balance 993. But I want to try a Motion Control shoe (Brooks Addiction Walker). I tried a New Balance 928 motion control shoe in the past but after wearing it for 2 weeks I got significant lower back pain. I think I transitioned too fast. Really, I didn't transition, I just switched to them and wore them 8-10 hours a day for 2 weeks straight, then got the back and knee pain. I want to try a motion control shoe again because they really helped my feet, very supportive. Is there an adjustment period, or a way to transition to Motion Control shoes slowly that will not hurt my back and knees? Would appreciate your thoughts on this. Thank you.

My daughter is a high school varsity runner - diagnosed Nov 2019 with navicular stress fracture (MRI) and stress reactions suspected in 4 surrounding bones. She took 2 weeks off in a boot, then cross trained for another 6-8 weeks (bike and swim only) and started gradually running again in Feb. Short runs, easy effort, etc - building up VERY slowly. She continued to have on/off “tightness” in her navicular area and occasional sharp pain that would go away in 24 hours. She would take 1-2 days off and be fine. Start of this cross country season, she is having pain in her “N” spot and sees a very qualified sports physio (has all along as well, weekly) and he thinks it is her soleus causing issues, pulling on navicular. She still has pain in this area. Repeat MRI - i have heard/read that it can be confusing to interpret and go with clinical signs. What do we do? Rest? Boot again? Will she be able to run again? Don’t want to lose track season too - so not sure best way to proceed - will she be plagued with this forever? It’s been a year :(

Absolutely right, the goal is the average person in society for general advice. I want to be extremely clear that I am not talking to a single person with unique circumstances. Generally across society as people get older they have more joint pain and can benefit from support. As people have less joint pain and are very fit they are less likely to need support (on a general level excluding specific biomechanical problems).

Hi thx for this video I think it will help me a lot. For the past year and km2000 the only shoe I’ve been able to ware is the Altra Paradigm 6 I’m also still struggling with a Morten’s Neuroma injury and have had 3 injections already but my new orthotic inner soles are helping a lot so I hope I don’t have to have that operation which I’m scheduled for. My question as this is a slightly old video. Oh I’ve also got flat feet. Which Altra shoe would you recommend for me. I walk an asphalt a lot about 10 hits km30-50 per day. Do I stick to the Paradigm or do I try the Via Olympus and what about the Outroad or is that to hard. Also taking in its winter and I’m in Oslo Norway snow and ice. Although I’ve been warring my Altra’s since Feb but wasn’t wanking/running every day then as I’m now. Thx for your recommendation :)

@@dougsphoto I love the altra paradigm too for my flat feet and i've tried their provision 7 too but it just wasn't as supportive. I have the paradigm 4.5 and 6 and love both btw. I like the medial straps on the 6 that you can tighten with the laces, but they are removing these from the paradigm 7s btw so maybe stick to the 6 if you like them. I have recently bought the Topo Ultrafly 3, which has a similar footshape to altra and has arch support and a 5mm drop. These are probably on par with the Altras, so i recommend giving them a ago. The only things i care about are wide toe box/ foot shape and arch support so these are great for me. Topo ultrafly 4 is also out which is just a bit newer. The altra via olympus I have heard is a very stiff shoe.
