Its probably worth mentioning the grits in the video seem to be FEPA or EURO standard. Past 100 grit the US system of measuring grit starts to deviate from the EURO grit measurements. For example EURO 800 is somewhere between US 400 and 500. There are lots of good conversion charts online. Just something to consider.

Well, I agree that there is a wide variety of choices people make on sandpaper grits. I have used and taught beginning technicians to use the following. I agree to start with 80 grit before applying body filler, but not 120 grit. I see no purpose for 120 grit. My next step sanding the body filler is with 180 grit on a block ( you may choose to shape the body filler first with 80 grit), but make sure to guide coat it to and follow with 180 grit. No use for 150 or 240 grit as I move to 320 grit, which easily removes the 180 grit scratches. I go over the 320 scratches with 400 grit on a D.A. sander. From there I would agree with the rest of his choices regarding prep for solid colors or metallics. So, I say 80, 180, 320, and 400 are all you need up to final prep for paint. No 120, 150, or 240. And, use a guide coat between each change of grits. Again, this is my view, many other may disagree.

Killer job explaining stuff. I cant even tell you how many different videos I've watched on KZbin. I can useally get a general concession on what to do 50 videos will say to do 50 different things. I can rebuild an engine no problem but making things look good. Ive always suck at. I got a great eye for detail but me doing it been a different story. Im going to try to paint my 65 Chevy C10 halfway through it it's coming out better than I thought so far.Its mainly to see if there's a chance that I can paint my 72 Camaro myself. I'm starting to think that I might be able to.i made a little mistake on the bed when it dried i could see so sanding scratches under the paint.im hoping the clear coat will cover it. If it was my Camaro id take it back down to metal but I cant do that right now. Thanks for the information. you have helped me out already.

Hey man I've been watching your videos for the past like 5 or 6 hours after seeing the first one and the work I've seen you do is amazing I started painting about a year ago starting with just cans and I got pretty decent just by trial and error and learning by myself and recently I just bought a turbine and decent gun but I've been having one problem that I can't really seem to figure out and was hoping maybe you could do a video on it for some reason after I spray my primer and my base coat I go to do my second base coat and in one little spot I keep getting what some people call alligatoring I know it can be caused by a few different things and I addressed those issues but I still keep having the same problem hope you can give me some advice or possibly make a short video on it thanks man and keep up the videos I believe your tips and techniques will help me out a lot

Hey Dave, thanks for all the awesome video's. I'm getting ready to spray my car roof. Do I need to sand or buff after I finish the colour coat, before I put down the clear acrylic? Or only after I do the clear acrylic? I'm thinking if my colour coat has orange peel I should sand and then clear it. What do you recommend? Thanks mate!

Question, if I'm not using body filler, do I just sand my small rust spot with 120 , then 240 then just go to primer ? Or should I sand th3 rust down with 240 from the getgo before I add primer if I'm not using body filler ?

If 240g does the job that's fine. Then go to primer. Otherwise whip out the 120👍👍

@@customspraymods so 80-120 isnt so much for prepping for body filler, its just to literally get the rust off? so basically i can just stick to the same steps you said and just skip the body filler and continue to 240 after 120 then put the primer on and so forth and so on ?
