I just recently discovered your channel and have watched a lot of your content now. I appreciate the info as its been 10 years since I built my last PC. I'm just a novice Davinci Resolve user and have upgraded my system to an Intel Arc A750 ($159 open box on newegg, what a deal!) so I can help my son by starting to edit his first youtube videos (he's 8). I love looking at benchmark scores and I had to try the Puget Bench test myself and I laughed so hard when I found that I have the lowest uploaded score in the past year, a 1258. For this old of a system I thought it still ran OK, even without my mobo not having resizable BAR support. I guess its time to upgrade and with all your helpful detailed advice it will be easy to select good value parts (when I can afford it). Keep up the good work and I hope to see some new Resolve v19 benchmarks soon. Any recommendations on minimum monitor resolutions for creators? Is a 2k or higher monitor required for best results/workflow productivity?

the 13500/14500 i5 options are Alder Lake based and are unaffected by the Raptor fiasco. Faster single core than the stock 12600k and more ecores. I am talking about the 1300 build. Also I'd spend the remaining 50$ on a 2TB project drive.

really depends on exact workflows, on tight budget, noticeably even cheaper i5-12400 will do fine (no E cores being good thing), dedicated graphics card may be completely optional, combination of NVME and SATA SSDs may yield interesting price differences too, faster networking PCIe card may be handy for NAS connections...

I would be interested in seeing how coupling GPUs preform. Such as a say a RTX 4070 with a Arc A380 or a Arc A750 with a RTX 3050. Ya know the 2nd GPUs that do not need any Power plugs that get the power from the Mother Board.

If I were able to get a "creator's motherboard" say a Gigabyte Vision z490 and a n 11th gen 11400k within that budget, would you recommend it? Or is 12th gen a considerable leap? Great video as always, superb production and edition. I love the lighting on your videos.
@donnydarko7624
@donnydarko7624 2 ай бұрын
I feel like LGA 1200/10th, and 11th gen is probably getting to the point where it's actually not a cheaper option, because CPU's and motherboards get to a point where their prices start going up again because ppl are looking to fix their existing machines and parts are no longer made. So especially with regards to computers that are in use to manage automated manufacturing systems when a computer dies and replacing it means having to upgrade the operating system say from like Windows 8 to windows 10 and the software they run not being compatible companies start to get desperate, and since most of those types of systems aren't on a public network they dont really have to worry about security vulnerabilities, so that doesn't factor into their decision on how to get their system back online.

LGA 1700 motherboards are not future proof when intel keeps changing their chipset every 3 years. If you are on budget and not gonna change your CPU for like next 6 years go for Z series motherboard, that way you can add more ssd if you want to. But if you are someone who are planning to upgrade your CPU in next 2-3 years get the B series motherboard for now. Once you upgrade your CPU you will have to change your motherboard as well because of the change in chip set of CPU once in every 3 years. Intel knows how to squeeze out your money.

The video is about ballparking what you can get for $700. Even with new hardware, The content already has a certain amount of inherent variability imposed on it. For Example regional differences may affect Pricing, Availability, & After sales support. Adding used hardware to the mix vastly broadens said variability, Potentially making it less generally applicable to the channel's presumably global audience. Used hardware is always a valid alternative many could benefit from considering - But from a content maker's standpoint, They'd rather not have their video be subjected to more circumstantial instances than the one's already at play.

That price is ridiculous, do not buy anything from those clowns. Final price for what you got is around $2000. You are wasting money on a prebuilt with a 2 year old AMD gpu. Terrible idea. Wait a few months, spend that same $3000 on a 5090 + 9900x3d, or a 5080 and 9950x3d. Do it yourself, and don’t water cooling regardless. Assembling a PC is like playing with Legos, just be patient and watch a few videos. Do not do water cooling. It is a waste of money and a real hassle to maintain. If possible, wait a few months on the GPU, will be worth it. If you can afford a 7900xtx, just go Nvidia. Avoid Intel until things have turned around for them (gonna be a few years) Quick rundown for you, and if you are willing to spend 3k, I have some suggestions: 7900 x3d - $400 (could go 7950 x3d for $550) 7900 xtx - $900-1000 (definitely go with the 4080 super for the same price, or 4090 for $1700) 64GB (2x32GB) is $150 (can go with 96GB 2x48 for $200) 2TB M.2 is $100-200 depending how “fast” it is. (just go 4TB for $250-300) That water cooling is $100. You are willing to spend $3k just to avoid assembling a PC. DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES DO WATER COOLING. It is not something you just do once and leave it alone. It is a constant problem. Just go with air, they are amazing and quiet. Quieterthan your radiator on whatever water cooling you can find. And a lot less energy. The performance difference is so negligable, just go watch a few videos on the subject. If a fan bearing goes bad (several years before this happens) you just replace the fan for like $20-30. Again, it’s not like water cooling is free from fan bearing issues. With air, there is no draining the lines, no corrosion, no leaks. Go watch Linus’ latest video for an idea of what can happen. That psu is $75. Never heard of KOLINK. I’d avoid it. Have a look at a PSU tier list and make a decision. You probably don’t need 1000W, but it won’t hurt. Corsair RM1000e is $160. Those cables are nonsense, don’t need them. Think along the lines of headlight fluid change in a car. Cases are whatever. The one right there is $160. You can spend a lot, or a little. Go watch some Gamers Nexus videos for case recommendations. I am using a $40 case with good ventilation and a plexi (plastic) side panel because tempered glass is dumb and a potential shattering hazard. I’d go non side window, but was willing to go with plastic for the low price and nice ventialtion.

@@karl343 I’d avoid it for a few reasons. Both of those prebuilts are cheaping out on the most important component, your PSU. For a system like yours, which will need a fair bit of power, this matters more than usual. Even worse, a good PSU will cost almost the same as a bad one. An extra $30 for something in the 750w range. The fact that these prebuilts are doing that is a bad sign. Go look for a PSU tier list and pick something. Pricewise, it’s still bad. Instead of an extra $1000, it’s an extra $500. The 33% premium is now 25%. Not worth it, for anybody. You are paying a lot, for a minimal amount of labour that anybody can do. How long to build a computer for the first time? A couple hours, maybe only one if everything goes quickly. There’s no problem with taking a break or two to relax, or double check some videos and manuals. Many prebuilts are also made poorly, worse than you’d be able to manage if you familiarize yourself. If they are ok with offering a low tier PSU, they are probably ok with doing low tier work, and ok with making some important mistakes. I would never trust that type of person to apply thermal paste, or properly pack my computer for shipping. To trust them with water cooling is just begging for trouble. When water cooling goes bad, it goes really bad. It would likely destroy part, or all, of your computer. Good luck with any warranty concerns from that type of business. Water cooling is the sort of thing you do because you are personally interested in doing it yourself. You like to tinker and maintain these sort of things, because there’s a little bit of performance to be gained from it. And maybe you like the looks of it. Dealing with water cooling is more work for you. The day to day experience will also be worse. Water pumps make noise. They also have radiators which need fans just like air cooling does. The pump needs power, which means more heat in the room. Sure, the really good ones might shave a few degrees (10-20 C) over a decent air cooler, but you don’t need that kind of headroom. Unless your favorite game is getting the highest in-class score for benchmarking apps like Cinebench, this is pointless. Maintenance and replacement is also more work and money. The stakes are higher, there’s more work involved, and it costs more. But if you are into that sort of thing, it can be fun I guess. Do you like sports cars, and modifying them? Maybe water cooling is a really simple version of that you could be interested in. Otherwise, don’t even give it a second thought. If you were already on an AM4 motherboard, then the 5950 is a great idea. But since you are buying an entire system, you shouldn’t bother with AM4 unless it is an amazing deal. The 5950 will be able to do whatever you need for a very long time, 10 years I imagine. But it’s the best you could ever install on that motherboard, and worse than the 7900 already, which you could always upgrade later if you want. The cost difference is minimal, if not identical, especially when buying everything new. If you’re willing to buy used, you might save a few hundred. Is it worth it to buy used? Not if you are already spending that kind of money. Min-maxing a deal can be a bit of a trap, in time spent hunting for used parts, and reliability. Both of which convert really easy into money. 7800XT is ok, but not the type of thing I’d want in something I paid $2000 for. For that price I’d want better. GPU is the most hard to predict as far as practical needs for what you want to do. If you need to render things, I’d stick to Nvidia strictly. If you just want to play games, and aren’t interested in raytracing, AMD is totally fine. We are months away from new GPU’s, so keep that in mind. It doesn’t mean you’d necessarily be able to get the newest stuff at MSRP, but it usually means some better prices on the previous gen in the leadup to release. How much of a discount isn’t usually much. Once new stuff comes out, the prices tend to go up a bit because people who missed out will settle for the old cards and are willing to pay more. Some general prices: Good b550 MB - 100-150 5950 - 350 64GB ddr4 - 100 2TB m.2 - 100 7800xt - 500 Good heatsink - 50-100 Good case - 50-100 Good 750w PSU - 100-150

I'm pretty happy that the Intel solution using a i5-12600Ki5 CPU will be fine however my problem is the GPU. The Intel Arc does not play well (at all) with any VR headsets, seems to be one of the few/only like this, so I'm at a loss as to a budget(ish) GPU that will work well with my Video/photo requirements but will also allow VR when I hook up a Quest 3.. Recommending 5200 Mhz DDR5 is terrible. Don't do that. That memory has micron chips, you are to stuck with 5200 forever, and if your game the performance WILL suffer. Best ram is 6000 CL30/CL32 for 2x32 GB.

Here's something to consider. In my country; Intel sold through an official channel has this: - Boxed, Not Tray. - 3 Year warranty as standard. +2 apparently if affected K series, As per Intel. - Generally more choice when it comes to motherboards. - Local trend "behind" So more folks on the LGA1700 socket than on AM5 down here Implies easier, If not downright "better" resale. Comparatively, AMD processors only sold through Grey channel sourcing. Hence; - 9/10 Tray variants. If it's the box one, It's usually randomly priced markedly higher - Irrespective of whether or not it's a chip that comes with the supplied Wraith cooler or not. - Sold under "Seller" warranty. Coverage varies between 8, 10 or 12 months. Involves comparatively longer wait times in case of claim. - Since the source of "import" varies, Less controlled pricing. Dips/climbs on seller discretion, Derived from overall supply abundance or scarcity. Example: 7700x, Tray = $358, New. Comparison: 7700x Boxed, New, US (Amazon) = $277+Tax. Team Red is certainly worth considering. But believe it or not, For quite a few types of buyers in certain regions, Intel is still a very Real and likely contender due to the set and setting that surrounds it as per regional factors.

@@cannotkazi That's fair. You should always pick, what has more value in your country. If you're willing to order from China tho, you'll always find Amd better, even if your country has only intel.
@cannotkazi

@@jony_tough Sound suggestion indeed. But check this; - I believe many countries deal with an influx of imports that they can't/don't want to siphon through by just deciding a "lost in mail" fate for them. - If it's not that, Then it could be worse. Much much worse; They don't define what taxes/charges/custom costs can or may incurr on products imported. In scenario one, China-bound sellers counter accountability (justifiably so) because they say their liability ends when the product reaches its intended destination - And they're not wrong. In scenario two, The product shows up at my door Only to be handed over if I clear the said duties/tariffs/charges decided to be imposed on product (Fun fact; I've literally paid one despite it costing 1.5x the value of the product itself lol) Neither of this is a given. And honestly lately I do see a fair few folks down here rolling those dice. But what I'm hinting at is, It's not the sort of pickle most buyers are in a position to risk these odds. And if they are, that's still a question of whether they percieve it to be worthy of what might be a somewhat negligible gain in their case - All things considered. We neighbor China. You bet we reap the benefits of proximity every chance we get. But there's a threshold, And unfortunately core PC components like CPU's, GPU's fall on the wrong side of it for us.

If you’re a content creator it’s a great entry level budget option. Especially with the 12gb of VRAM you WILL utilize. The card should’ve never been marketed at all to gamers. Not saying that it can’t game, but it’s no 1440p, or 4k GPU. Nothing matches its performance for a content creator for the $250-$300 price tag.

Do not use Intel for a workstation GPU, or anything for that matter. Terrible compatibility and stability which is what you need for work. Intel already had one foot out the door before their latest struggles. You really think they are going to stick around the GPU market at this point? Bad time to buy a GPU, so just wait for a few months, all 3 of them are coming out with a new generation. Use what you got until then. If you are desperate, you can grab an AMD 6750 for $300. Desperate is the key word here, because AMD GPU aren't a great idea for workstation. They are great for budget gaming, which is 99% of this video's audience. Otherwise, save your money and wait for Nvidia 50 series to come out. Maybe grab a 4070 for like $400 or something (wishful thinking probably). Bad CPU advice. Ditch that 2-generations-old Intel platform. Grab a non-x 7600 and a B650 board for the same price. Why non-x? They are 65W and come with wraith stealth heatsink (not the prism like I thought) which is ok. Good enough, I've been using the prism on a non-x 7900 for almost a year now, but they aren't all that comparable. You'll be able to upgrade to Zen 6 or 7 in a few years as well. Just don't cheap out on the motherboard, watch the motherboard roundups on hardware unboxed to get an idea what that means.

50-series are on track for a 2025 release and that's only for the flagship products. The AMD platform lacks quicksync or an equivalent which is a big deal for video editing. The 7600 comes with the stealth cooler which is like a 5$ cooler. Enough, but noisy. And the CPU will prolly thermal throttle anyways. The 7700 looks sweat though with the Prism. Anyways E cores do give multithread performance, enough to beat AMD price-price. Alder Lake is still excellent for budget builds , just stay out of Raptor Trash Lake. AMD Gpus are trash for anything workstation related. The intel ones are fine for their edge use cases, but if you already have the igpu better get a 4060 to complete the feature set of the computer.

@@multiicore_ Good to know about the stealth, I'll edit my mistake. I was on the fence about the prism but tried it anyway to get something out of it. I wish I hadn't bothered at this point so I don't have to clean off the garbage paste from the thermal pad later, but it's fine. Got one of those kryosheets but I'm waiting for either the fan on the prism to start getting noisy, or when I upgrade. Quicksync looks like nvenc or amf. Haven't used anything but nvenc, and whatever really old AMD stuff was on the 7870, definitely nice to have. I don't know how many people could do what they need without a gpu. That seems like laptop or mini pc territory. I don't have any dire need to upgrade, but I'm going to keep an eye out for any of the relevant 40 series to get a little cheaper in the run-up to 50 series release. I don't have **too** much delusion about grabbing a 5080 at MSRP, assuming that would even make sense for me. But I don't have the willpower to not at least take a look when the time comes :)

@@LukesBlenderChannel if you don’t need an upgrade do not give them any of your hard earned euros/dollars/whatever. The 5080 may cost 1500$🤮🤮. It will probably destroy the 4090. Blender I think only really needs a good gpu and can get by with a budget cpu. But I haven’t grown serious into it yet. My 4070 will be enough as a starting point.
