We left Duluth after an incredible week filled with the energy of city life. From lively entertainment to cozy cafes and bustling streets, it was a memorable experience. Even a dramatic storm on our final days couldn’t dampen the magic of our stay. Duluth marked the last urban hub on our journey to Bismarck, North Dakota-a bittersweet farewell as we transitioned into the quieter, rural landscapes ahead.
The next six stops in Minnesota and North Dakota promised tranquil, small-town charm, but my anticipation for our upcoming destination, Silver Bay, Minnesota, was high. Nestled along the pristine northern shore of Lake Superior, it would be our final goodbye to this breathtaking Great Lake-a fact that tugged at my heartstrings. However, the promise of stunning beaches softened the blow.
Silver Bay is home to Black Beach, a true hidden gem renowned for its unusual black-sand shoreline-a striking contrast to the blue waters of Lake Superior. Even more exciting, our campground, Black Beach Municipal Campground, was situated right by this natural wonder.
