ℹ️ About the Episode: For years, the community has been asking us to come to Duluth... and now we know why! Between the state parks, downtown food scene, Two Harbors and the North Shore, there are endless things to do. Just like the Upper Peninsula, it's pretty far north, which means June might have been a tad early to visit. If it's anything like Michigan, we've learned that summer really kicks off on July 4th. We had rain nearly every day during our visit, but we made the most of it. If we were lucky enough to get some sunny days, we would have taken the Gitchi-Gami State Trail (GGST) all the way to Split Rock Lighthouse. Now that we're familiar with the area, we’d adjust our route to stop by the Apostle Islands National Lakeshore to kayak. This looks like a lot of fun, but might be an activity for later in the summer when the weather is warmer. In this episode, we stayed at a dry camping site at Jay Cooke State Park. We took Charlie on a "hike" to the suspension bridge near the campground. We also visited Split Rock Lighthouse, Gooseberry Fall, and Betsy's Pie-just a few of the highlights in Duluth.

For people that don't know, the old iron bridge that was crossed in the beginning when you cross into Minnesota is a double decker bridge. Cars on the bottom and the train on the top. Very cool bridge!

Thank you for everything that you do to put the videos together and share your life's adventures it is such a blessing and a fun place to sit and watch I recently got a job offer and had to leave home to go to Kansas City Kansas and I've never been away from my wife that long, and it does get very lonely when I'm away from her even though I do get to fly home once a month which is great. I just want you guys to know that your videos and everything that you guys do helps keep my head occupied by the fun adventures and how much sitting dream of what we're going to do when I get my wife back after this job ends. Thank you, stay safe and God bless looking forward to the next video

Lived in Duluth for 36 years... now I am on the St. Croix River, but was in Duluth, yesterday to pick up some elk and salmon at the Northern Smokehaus in Canal Park. There is so, so, so much to do and explore there. Next time you will want to explore the Marine Museum and watch 1000 foot iron ore ship come into the harbor. There is extraordinary history there including the Clayton, Jackson, McGhie Memorial. I could go on for hours... Duluth will always have my heart.

In Minnesota we say we live in "the cities." Or upnorth. Or "about an hour from the cities." Or "first-ring suburb, second-ring suburb. The real Minnesota thing I already mentioned, we measure distance with time. Right now I live 15 minutes from one daughter and 50 minutes from the other. Love your channel!❤ And I loved that you were in Minnesota. I love it here and I've been here all my life.

As a born & raised proud MinnesOtan, this is SOOO true!!! ❤ I work in “the cities” but always share with others, I was born & lived my whole life in a beautiful small river town on the Mississippi just “30 minutes” south. I am “5 minutes” from our oldest daughter & youngest daughter has a “0 minute commute” living in our downstairs apartment. 😂 I’ve been very blessed to travel almost all of the US…As each year passes creating new memories, I have more & more appreciation for our quiet & hidden gem of such a special place filled with the natural wonder of beauty.

My wife and I loved this video. We watched it as we drove north to Voyageurs from Chicago - doing a trip that included Isle Royale (Jill watched, I drove and listened). We changed a little of our plans to do three of your suggestions (Betty’s Pies, Gooseberry Falls, and Split Rock Lighthouse). Just got back to Hungry Jack Lodge and Campground north of Grand Marais. I doubt we would have done this little side trip without your suggestions. Thanks! (And the Cherry Crème Pie was AHHmazing!!!)

Our Summer to Remember has turned into a summer we will never forget... we decided to sell our 1/4 interest in our cabin (park model RV), expected it to take up go a year to sell, but it went from listed to sold in less than two months, we spent last week as our final hurrah, brought home all of our personal items. In the meantime, we decided to downsize our home, so we're packing up all the non-essential stuff and the listing should go live in ten days. We've been looking at houses to find the gem that will make sense for our eventual retirement. Selling the cabin is bittersweet, we have been going up for almost ten years, but we also realize that selling it is the gateway to new adventures. We did a yurt camping trip already and will probably rent a few RV's to narrow down our next choice. Amazing area to visit in Oregon is the Metolius River. Lots of National Forest campgrounds, a fly fishing paradise (catch and release only), some RV Resorts in Camp Sherman, golf nearby at Black Butte Ranch, the amazing western-themed town of Sisters, Oregon, and a wonderful loop drive partway down the McKenzie River, then up over McKenzie Pass to Sisters.

Marc’s curiosity about how Minnesotans identify where we live. City folk, Minneapolis, all live in “The Cities” short for Twin Cities. Other geographical locations are…Up North western Mn or southern Mn. The finger point I think you are speaking of is called The Arrowhead. The wedge from Duluth up to Canada creating a triangle resembling an arrowhead.

It was great to see the places we went to that you two visited. We will definitely go back. And the people we met were so friendly! Great video ❤

It's awesome to see my home state finally getting some praise. We went to Duluth for fireworks this forth of July but make it a tradition to head up north, hit Tobies bakery, Betty's pies, and as much of the north shore drive we can do. Glad to see you guys exploring Mn. When it's not -20 degrees Minnesota is amazing. Make sure you come back in the fall!

We loved this area of Minnesota! Your typewritten letter 😂 My favorite Minnesota memory will forever be kayaking next to an otter & loons at Thistledew Lake.

Minnesotans love to go “Up North” or “Up the North Shore”. We don’t use the hand to tell where we live like the Michiganders. We love our pies! Next time try the other Two Harbors pie shop, The Rustic Inn. Most Minnesotans have a strong preference to one or the other. Enjoyed your video! Sorry the mosquitoes didn’t impress you.

We got married out on Artist Point at Grand Marais in 1991, after 8 years together. This is our 4th decade going to the North Shore. We remember Silver Clff and the other hairpin cliffside curve.

I would love to go there, as a Michigander it basically would almost be a day trip. The typewriter clip was AWESOME! And so was the "one piece" of pie!! That's great! Thanks for letting us know about the S2R shirts are back! Ordered another pair - great shirts!

For most people in the US, the highlight of July is the 4th. Not in this family. It’s the Tour de France. Has been for over 3 decades. Glad to know there other Arizonans who love the Tour. Road biking is the connection. My husband has been knocked off his bike by a car at the top of Oak Creek (broken collar bone), bumped by a truck on the road around Lake Tahoe, knocked down by wind on the Golden Gate Bridge, and front wheel popped off coming downhill near Piestewa Peak (internal decapitation, TBI, fractured orbit) and he still gets on the bike at 70. I think it’s why he lives vicariously through the Tour riders. Love your videos.

We were in Duluth 2 years ago on a 5000 mile trip from Colorado around the USA side of all five of the Great Lakes. The north and south sides by Duluth are outstanding.

We just missed you. The weekend before you where there, we were across the road from Betty's pies fishing the river, lake, and kids building rock bridges across little creeks. North Shore Minnesota is at least 1-2 times a year for us! Grand Marais, Lutsen, Tofte area is wonderful too! Next time through, go way up to the point of MN and check out the Grand Portage fort. Cool history and story on the fur trade in Northern MN and how they transported the goods out of MN.

Great video! Actually, all your videos are top-notch. 😁 We have been north of Duluth twice, and we tent camped for one week at Split Rock Lighthouse State Park and spent one week in our camper in Two Harbors. We can't wait to go back. This Hoosier loves Northern Minnesota.

I sure wish you would have completed your MN adventures and continued up North to International Falls and Voyageurs National Park!! We are right across from Canada. We offer daily boat rides up to the Historic Kettle Falls Hotel, and yes, they do have accommodations!! We are a Certified Dark Sky Park for seeing Aurora Borealis-the Northern Lights!!! Please come back, you really did miss the best of the best...ok, I'm biased! Lol😂🎉 Happy Travels, and Stay Safe, Heidi Christensen 🎉💜

I believe the desert that Marc liked is a torte. My mom would add pecans to the crust and topping. I always requested it for my birthday! My mom has passed and looked everywhere for the recipe.😢😢😢

So many times we've watched your videos and say we had not idea it was that beautiful. That cherry cheese pie looks suspicious like a cheat cherry cheesecake we used to make. Graham crust, pkg of cream cheese, dream whip or sour cream and topping. I always preferred cherry

Loved Duluth and want to go back. We stayed in the Boat Basin by the Aerial Bridge (the whole reason I wanted to go to Duluth was to see that bridge) but Duluth had so many great things beyond that.

A big Minnesota welcome! Glad you enjoyed Duluth and Jay Cooke! Split Rock is amazing too! Our family along with normally 10 to 12 other families make an annual camping trip up the North Shore to Grand Marais, MN. The base of the Gunflint Trail that leads to Boundary Waters Canoe Area. If you come back this way I highly recommend. Plus we have some fantastic Rails to Trails bike paths. Betty’s Pies! 😋

You missed the best part of Duluth. You should camp at Lakehead Boat Basin Campground and walk down to Canal Park to watch the 1000 ft Freighters enter the harbor from Lake Superior going under the Duluth Aerial Lift Bridge.

I am a 5th grade teacher and had my students complete a Summer to Remember list before the last day of school. I explained big rocks and small rocks, but the kids’ lists were HYSTERICAL! One parent read their child’s list, which was: 1) Get a lab, 2) Get a German Shepherd, 3) Get a Frenchie, 4) Go to Hawaii, 5) Go to Paris, etc., etc. We were cracking up. I told all the kids who you were and your connection to Pinnacle Peak Elementary (now Pinnacle Peak Preparatory). Have a great summer and thanks for the free, downloadable Summer to Remember list.

love it. I live close to Jay Cooke State Park and was just there checking out the St Louis River, and took the Dogs for a walk. I so wanted to go to the meetup, but I was camping Up North that weekend. Yes we have had tons of rain this spring/summer so the mosquitos have been terrible.
