Quite a few of the imported DE blades are actually made by Gillette even if their name isn't on the package. Astra is a notable example. Lets see Gillette try pull their new marketing campaign in Russia.

Also annoyed with Gillett. On my 4th week with a safety razor. No nicks or cuts so far, less expensive and a closer shave than disposables. Gillett not only chased me away, they sent me to a better, less expensive and less wasteful shaving system.

Hello Matt. I've been using Edwin Jagger. Like yourself. I thought I'd mention when I returned to the D.E shaving world. I picked up an inexpensive Dark coloured 3 Piece Double Edged Razor from Amazon here in the UK by a company called Home Salon. I still alternate it with my Edwin Jagger. The main reason is the superior blade exposure. I purchased the Home Salon razor at the time for £12. It currently retails at around £14. I've used it with numerous blades from different manufacturers. I've found it to be excellent razor for beginners or experienced shavers. An honest review of the Home Salon D.E Razor by you Matt would be welcome. Your Razor Emporium reviews are exceptional. And your relaxed personality compliments them. Keep well.

This was a fabulous video! I went out and bought the King C. The technique was well explained and first time I tried this I was amazed! Best shave ever, not a single cut and no soreness. Second time the same as was the third. I cannot believe that I am in my late fifties and I never knew how to shave. Thanks so much! Instructionals like this are just great!

My first DE was the closed comb 3-piece that comes in the PAA starter kit, and it came with a CK-6 soap and aftershave, can't remember if it came with blades but I got blades, and it also comes with a brush. I highly recommend that, definitely fell in love with it, that was a nice mild razor and I feel like that's a good place to start.

I am now 15 razors into this "hobby" there is really only one Razor I would recommend FAR above all others. The razor that stands on a tier of it's own for beginners is the Rockwell 6c. There is just something about this razor that feels so smooth yet it's efficient. The 6c also grows with you as a shaver and it is versatile with the three plates. The Merkur 34c and EJ DE89 are great razors that I do love, but the Rockwell 6c is truly in a category of it's own. So far, the Rockwell 6c/6s and in a Tier of their own compared to all other razors.

I love the information here. I am in love with my 2 Super Speed Red Tips, 1 Flaretip, and 2 1940 style. It's good to know they're brass and stamped. I prefer them with sharp Feather razors because they're a bit too mild with my second favorite Astra Platinums. While I love my Fatboy and Slim models, I find myself always wondering what adjustable level to have them on. I almost prefer the simplicity of my Super Speeds. But all are fantastic.

The overall winner was the Gillette Old Type and the Gillette Slim was a close second with the adjustable settings. I see the new Gillette ad is making a few ememies but that should not effect any decision on old razors just the new stuff and other folks make good DE blades.

Pretty much nailed all my thoughts on these. The standard Superspeed is my go-too travel razor simply for the lightweight. I also have the small Tech travel, but the butterfly design is better for travel in my opinion. In the bathroom at home though is a the Edwin-Jagger along with a Superspeed red (more aggressive) which are my go-to daily shavers, alternate between them. Between those, don't need anything else.
@francohic
@francohic Жыл бұрын
I have a superspeed and a small tech (ball end handle) both made in Argentina in the 1960-1970 period. I find the Superspeed way more aestetic but the small tech is more comfortable to shave in the difficult parts, under the nose for example.
@therealchickentender
@therealchickentender Жыл бұрын
@@francohic 👍Since posting this I rarely use my regular Superspeed and have gone back to the Travel Tech... I even use it for day-to-day and it's my second favorite next to the Superspeed Red-tip. It's more aggressive than the original Super-Speed. Love it. I still use my Edwin-Jagger once in a while but the handle is smooth and slippery so I usually prefer the Travel Tech and Red-tip. All are great razors... My beard is just a little to thick/coarse for the regular super-speed and tends to pull/drag a bit, but I keep it because it's the oldest original I have. :)

Hi, great video. When I started shaving i started with a gillette double edged razor but my neck on one side always seemed to get little nicks and cuts and bleed and I would have soreness for the rest of the day. I then decided to use a cartridge razor (mach3 gillette) and that stopped my problem with my neck very rarely getting nicks and no soreness. Now I'm older I decided to buy a new safety razor a Muhle closed tooth razor (m49?) and guess what it gives a fairly close shave but yet again I'm getting nicks and soreness on my right neck. Is this something I'm doing which causes this or is it just because my neck is very sensitive - maybe I'm too heavy using my razor. I'd like to stay using the de safety but if i continue my nicks and cuts then I'll have to go back to my cartridge razor I suppose.

I decided to go with a Gillette Fatboy, made in the year I was born, 1958. It’s still in phenomenal shape, being 63 years old. Wish I was in as good condition. The Fatboy’s were great products, very well built out of nickel plated brass components, were easy to load and adjustable, to nine different settings. So, depending on your beard coarseness or how many days of growth you had, you could adjust the blade exposure to give you just the right amount of cutting edge. It’s just too bad you have to reach back in history to get a really well designed and produced product to get a decent shave. Buy one, if you can. They are worth it. Oh yeah, I like the Russian Voskhod Blade’s. To me, they are the best all around blade for sharpness and edge retention. I can generally get about half dozen shaves out of one, before they start scraping my face.

I wish this video had been out a few weeks ago, I bought a Van Der Hagen because it was the most readily available to try, but I did feel that it wasn't doing much in terms of the blade angle it holds. I'll probably be looking into more of the other options since I actually enjoy shaving with a DE razor over cartridge razors even after a short time.

@666NedFlanders ahahaha, not only is your reply comical since it seems like you are a child who just learned how to use curse words, but you are so so very wrong and yet so indignant in your error. You truly have no idea what an alloy really is do you? Salt is an ionic compound, it forms from a chemical reaction(electron exchange) between sodium and chlorine at a 1:1 ratio, forming ionic bonds. An alloy is a mixture of metals or metals and non metals in a variety of ratios. Alloys do not form chemical bonds between its constituents. Alloys do indeed retain the metallic properties of its constituents. Ferrous alloys (alloys of iron) still retain its ferromagnetic properties, and its susceptibility to corrosion and oxidation (rust, iron oxide). "Steel, an alloy of iron, should itself, not have iron in it." This must be a joke.... Steel can be 99% iron in some of the most basic steel, or 50.1%(sometimes less but still the majority of the mixture) iron in complex alloys. And yes, it is still elemental iron. You truly don't know the difference between a compound and an alloy(mixture), do you? You really are a walking example of the Dunning-Kruger effect. And you tell me to get the F out of here and call me a pedant? HAH!

SpikeG. jr. No I haven't, but if you have to use the sharpest blade on the market with this razor, it goes to show that it's not very efficient. Pol silver blades are in the top tier of sharp blades for sure

Don't use the Merkur blades. Just my opinion, but I've heard it from others as well! I found them to be terrible and the Astra's were a breath of fresh air compared to them.

No Merkur razors in this video. The one that is thrown is named Weishi. I would guess that the price point of Merkur 34C puts it somewhat over the beginner budget.

I can’t remember where I saw it but the Merkur 34c was highly recommended. Has anyone used it, I’m looking to get into wet shaving. Would you experienced folks recommend the 34c, or should I start with an adjustable? Thank you in advance. JG

@@johnvgig i use the 34c. It's sweet. I've tried 15+ different blades and my favourites for a sharp shave that is still buttery smooth are Gillette 7 o'clock SharpEdge (the Yellow packet). They're the best all rounder. IMO. Even better than Astra for me.

S Appreciate the feedback. Broke down and bought the 34c. I love it. Really smooth. Bought a variety pack of highly rated blades. Gillette Nancet, Assured and Voskhood teflon coated. I need to shave every day. Gillette Nancet was first blade. Seemed to start tugging on the fourth shave. Is that average for a descent blade? I’ll give the 7 o’clock a try. Thanks. JG

The Weshi is fine for me. I remember years ago I bought a Weshi and it was really light and mild. I bought the newer version and it's a lot heavier and provides me with a nice shave. I think they are all copper based I believe, although I'm not a 100% sure about that.

After years of sitting in my drawer, a few weeks ago I decided to use my Merkur 34c at first I seemed to be doing pretty good with it but after the last two shaves I’m seriously considering going back to my cartridge razor. At the moment I’ve got a beard so I only shave my neck, which is my most extremely sensitive part. The slightest touch causes redness and blood for a while it was working great albeit with a little bleeding but now it feels like broken glass. PS Cartridge razors aren’t as bad as a lot of de shaving videos claim.

Hi I really hope you answer this. I want to get my boyfriend a razor but I am clueless. He has shaky hands, he tends to clean shave, I'd like him to try more styles but i think he doesn't cause he doesn't know how or maybe afraid. What would be a good razor for him, also what kind of shaving cream.

I suggest starting him off with a Beginner sample pack of blades with a Super Speed. He can experiment and figure out what he really likes. And pick a scent you think would smell nice, it's that simple! :) Check out our store to find a razor and soap that meet your budget.

For whatever reason India seems to know shaving... I would always consider a razor manufactured in India to be among the best from a manufacturing and a quality standpoint - I know that the American brands and products will be second to none but you'll often pay for the patriotisms (which can be worth it - don't get me wrong) - with most products these days even a 4.5 star or a 5 star review on Amazon won't tell the whole story - watch the reviews and support those who support us (Razor Emporium)...
