Thank you! I really like the Gold card for its 2-3x points on travel and Deliveroo credits. But I feel like my partner won't be happy if I give up the Platinum and she loses her unlimited Priority Pass :D (and I'll certainly miss mine too).

Last year I went to the Istanbul lounge but not with my priority pass but as a second guest to a priority pass holder. His guest was someone else but I was ready to pay but they let me in as a second guest so I was lucky. But I'm going to get gold as I don't fly a lot. I used to between 2015-2019 but after covid I haven't much. Went turkey and America last year so 4 passes is enough. Would have been great if it was doubled but it'll do

Btw, Amex did actually double the number of free passes last year (it used to be 2 but now it's 4). I guess if they were to double it again, that would have to come with an increase to the annual fee and / or the whole "first year free" deal going away.

This guy had platinum and his guest was one guy and I was let in as well because I think the guy must've said its ok you can go in. Because it was only one extra instead of 2/3 My other question is, if I have a gold card and add 3/4 family members, there won't be any extra charges will there? They'll all have their gold cards. But the main question is will all the additional family members get their own priority pass or not?

I have barclaycard rewards with 0 foreign transaction fees. Is it better to use it in the USA than AMEX gold ? I've heard that Amex gold foreign transation fee is 2.99% for UK customers ? I do like free airport lounges acces with Amex, buy it seems like the only benefit of owning one. I dont shop in Sainsbury or Argos ar all.

Yes, Barclaycard Rewards would be better for foreign spend. In addition to no extra fees it will give you the usual 0.25% cashback. However, there're even better options like the Chase debit card which doesn't charge foreign fees either and gives you 1% cashback. As for Amex, if you don't shop with Nectar partners, it's all down to whether you want to spend your rewards on travel. Personally, I never spend my points at Sainsbury's, Argos, etc., for me it's just a good example of guaranteed return. Instead I exchange them into air miles (e.g. Avios) or hotel points and often get much higher value than the guaranteed £6.6 / 1000 points with Nectar. Hey! There's a tab that says 'Offers' in the Amex app. There you can browse the various credits you can get and add them to your card (including the Deliveroo and Small shop stuff). Once the offer is added, simply pay at the corresponding shop / website with your card and you'll get the discount within a few days (e.g. if you pay for a Deliveroo order, you'll see £5 refunded off that payment a few days later)

Hi, I have been binging your videos, thank you, absolutely useful. This is my current situation and strategy. My wife has the everyday platinum cash back, I have the supplementary. She got the welcome bonus. She is coming up to two months with the card and planning on applying for the gold card which I believe she will get the welcome bonus since she does not have rewards card but just the everyday cash back? I will get a supplement card too. Then I will apply for the everyday cash back platinum, then possibly after a month or two Apple for the platinum card which I should get the welcome bonus since I am coming from every day cash back and not points reward? We are both high spenders, everyday payments etc, children, family, holidays. I very much hope to get your feedback.

Thank you, glad these have been useful! As for your question: 1. Unfortunately, your wife won't be eligible for the sign up bonus on the Gold card. Most cards, including Gold, require that you haven't held *any* personal Amex card in the past 24 months to get the bonus. The 2 exceptions to this are the Platinum card (only requires that you haven't had *points earning cards*) and BA Premium Plus (only requires that you haven't had Amex BA cards). You can check these details for any card on that card's page on the Amex website. 2. Whenever you apply for a card (your own, not supplementary), make sure your wife refers you (and vice versa, once you already have an Amex card). That way she gets a referral bonus and you get a higher sign up bonus for being referred. 3. It may be a good idea to time your application for the Platinum card so that it coincides with an increased sign up bonus promotion which Amex runs every now and then (60k welcome bonus instead of 30k, or 70k if you're referred + maybe something like Amex travel credit thrown in). Here's what my girlfriend and I did: I referred her for the Platinum card (I held the free Amex BA card at the time). She got 70k referral bonus + £200 credit for Amex travel and also gave me the supplementary Platinum card. Later she referred me for the Platinum card and closed her own. I got 70k sign up bonus + £200 credit for Amex travel. She got 24k referral bonus. I made her a supplementary cardholder on my account so that she continues having the benefits. That way we got 164k points + £400 of Amex travel credits between the 2 of us + most Platinum benefits each and didn't have to pay for 2 cards simultaneously at any time thanks to making each other supplementary cardholders.

So will get my wife to refer me to either a gold or everyday cash back card towards the end of the month, since I do not have an Amex Realtionship. Once I have the everyday (without annual charge) I will refer her to a platinum when there is a good welcome bonus. We will of course have the supplementary cards for each. Does the supplementary have access to the dine restaurant credit as well (platinum) is there any of the perks the supplementary card holder does not have access to? We ideally wanted me to have the platinum and and everyday and for my wife to have the gold and an everyday. Ideally we want to keep the everyday as the long term card, to improve credit and most importantly for greater credit limit flexibility for both of us. Platinum for the travel, gold for the bonus’s. Or do you recommend I apply for the gold card and not the everyday? Could I get the welcome bonus from a gold card holder applying for the platinum everyday? No, the dining credit can only be spent from the main card. That goes for the other credits as well (Harvey Nichols, Onefinestay). The rest of the benefits are available to the supplementary card. Between the Everyday Cashback and Gold I would get Gold for the first year, while it's free and then consider switching, because: 1. You get 33k points if you spend £3,000 in your first 3 months (30k increased welcome bonus + 3k for the spend itself). This is worth £217 at Sainsbury's / Argos / Ebay / other partners if you convert into Nectar or £148 if you use it as cashback. 2. On top of that you get 4 airport lounge passes and £5 off Deliveroo twice every month. However, keep in mind that whoever gets the Gold card, won't be eligible for the Platinum welcome bonus (which is not the case with the cashback card). Your welcome bonus is determined by the type of card you're applying for, irrespective of the card the person who referred you has. And vice versa: the person who refers you will get the same referral bonus regardless of what kind of card you apply for. Good luck with your plan and let me now how it goes!

@@LoyaltyLlama oh, sorry so just to confirm my wife currently only has the platinum everyday cash back is going to apply for the platinum, she will be eligible for the welcome bonus right (platinum) after only having the everyday cash back. I will apply first (first time Amex client) will apply for the platinum everyday cash back then after a few months apply for the gold card which I would get the welcome bonus (gold). If I were in a hotel (the amex one), would I just be pay for the £100 free stuff with my card, then be reimbursed, or how does it work? Would there be no transfer of money?

No, you don't have to pay anything upfront. They will just deduct the $100 from the final bill you pay for the extras when checking out.

My first credit card in the UK was the Barclaycard Forward. It's one of the so called credit building cards: they're are just plain credit cards that have no extra features (like rewards or balance transfers) but instead allow you to build a track record of using credit responsibly. Most lenders offer something like this, so do look around and do your own research to see what's best for you as the above is just my experience :)
