I have an R1T, and use a Race Face T2 Tailgate Pad.. I can easily get 4 Mountain bikes in with the tailgate up, and don't worry about the tailgate slamming up and down when hitting bumps.. I use the Gear Guard cable as well..

I love how the front wheel is secured but there should be a better way to secure the rear wheel.
@johnswain71842 жыл бұрын
I just installed 2 of these in my R1T. They seem great so far. Only trouble is I will probably need to take them out once Rivian comes out with a fix / upgrade for the Tonneau cover. Then I will put them back in. I think I may just help secure the rear wheels with small bungee cords to the tie-down rings in the rear corners of the truck bed. The included straps seem like a pain to deal with.

Can you raise the bed back door and leave the bike in a diagonal mode?

I was hoping to see you put at least one more bike into the center slot of the rack because it looks to me like the handle bars would be hitting the adjacent bike's handle bars.

The others are at the shop getting a full clean and overhaul. You can put them in straight or backwards to offset eachother

Do the bolts in the front not interfere with the travel of the tonneau cover into the front of the bed?
@mp3mike2372 жыл бұрын
How easy do the bike mounts come out? Do you have to unscrew the quick releases?
@TeslaInventory2 жыл бұрын
You can fold them down to close the tonneau cover. Or you can unscrew the quick release clamp and then remove the bike rack. They fold up nicely and can be stored in the frunk, gear tunnel, or I think they'd fit in the storage space under the trunk if you don't have a spare tire. Then all that'd remain in the bed is the bars.

Thanks for the video! Been trying to find move videos of them. Have you thought about buying the lock for ride88? I can’t seem to figure out how the lock would work.

Lots of pickups leave their tailgate down to save gas I think. Have you quantified how many watts you lose with the gate up versus down and if hauling the bike costs wattage. It depends on the winds that day of course. I've noticed a drop in range when I haul my bike on my tesla Y.
@TeslaInventory2 жыл бұрын
I haven't had a chance to fully test out efficiency. It's tricky because environmental situations can change so quickly. When I used my rack on the Y I lost range. But it was bulky, heavy, and stuck out several feet from the rear.

It would be so much easier to use hit mounted bike carrier. It takes 30 sec to take it off, plus you can use entire bed

Do you need that strap for the rear tire?
@TeslaInventory2 жыл бұрын
I think it's more up to the user. I don't think it's absolutely necessary. But it'll help hold down the liftgate of the truck and ensure the bike doesn't sway.
@johnswain71842 жыл бұрын
@@TeslaInventory It looks like a great system. Everything I'm looking for except that back strap. It looks like it will definitely rub on the tailgate paint over time which could be a big problem. Have you experienced this yet? Plus the straps seem very cumbersome to put on and off, like tailgate pads are. Otherwise, I love how this fits in the bed of the truck. Who wants to lift their MBs to mount above the cab or above the bed? NOT ME!

Don't know why you would want the bikes in the bed like that. rack looks overly complex. Should have got a 1UpUSA hitch mount rack. Load or remove a bike in seconds, rack comes off the truck with 1 tool in less than a minute. all metal so no UV damage to worry about.
@chrschu2 жыл бұрын
I have a 1Up hitch rack and switched to this because the tailgate will hit the rack when its down and with remote release it may cause some damage. Also the rack will not let the truck fit in my garage anymore since I don't have a lot of space front to rear.
