What is it REALLY like owning a Rivian R1T? Built ready, go freely with the ultimate 3-in-1 portable mobile power solution: Anker 3-in-1 Power Bank (5,000mAh): shop.anker.com/Y33UHq Anker 3-in-1 Power Bank (10,000mAh): shop.anker.com/Rczsc8 and Thanks to Anker for sponsoring this video. #Anker3in1powerbank
My truck is one of the first 2000 Vehicles that Rivian ever made. And its held up surprisingly well. I have some issues with dirt collecting under the bed. (It gets caught between the tailgate and the bed itself, as the tailgate opens and closes.) But other than that it is a beast of a machine. And super fun to drive.

While I think the Rivian is a great achievement, I hope Rivian is able to reduce what is currently an unreasonable amount of disassembly required to perform minor repairs. Lack of reparability was a large factor in why I ended up cancelling my reservation for an R1T, and I recognize this not exclusive to Rivian.

Cool! Sorry to bother you with this question, but hopefully you can answer it: Most modern cars are 'connected' nowadays, not only EVs. Unfortunately, a lot of car manufacturers are (ab)using this ability to mine a lot of customer data and selling it to third parties (like advertisers and insurance companies). I really hope Rivian is not one of or will not become one of those manufacturers where their cars are basically smartphones on wheels when it comes to the privacy issues. These developments really hold me back in buying a modern car. What is Rivian's point of view regarding this?

@eximiamedia7897, could you please provide some insight into how much, if at all, the design team is working to make repairability easier than it currently is? I would love to buy an R3 someday but this level of teardown for basic repairs is a huge deterrent.

I'm okay with paying my fair share. But here in Texas the fees they've hit us with are ridiculous. I have to pay an extra $200 a year above and beyond the regular registration. In order to have paid a similar amount of gas tax, I'd have to be driving a huge truck every day and putting tons of miles on it. My car sits in the garage on most days, and so it's really not a fair system.

Shocked me to hear of it. In the UK e-vehicles have an exemption from our version of that. Here it's commonly called Road Tax, although that was replaced a few years ago with Vehicle Emissions Tax, and it's now just Vehicle Tax. Contrary to popular belief it doesn't actually go specifically to road maintenance, so not paying it doesn't mean you aren't contributing to road upkeep. Disabled drivers and vehicles used to transport disabled passengers are also exempt.

@@AxGaragewell the additional weight of these vehicles degrades the roads much faster. I think it’s fair that they have to pay more taxes for that, and in European countries they are forcing a change in propulsion just like they did 20 years ago with Diesel which now is beeing prohibited everywhere even though just a few years ago it was the future, and a lot of tax money went towards financing all the bonuses just like now with EV’s. Imo taxes on cars should me made based on weight, more horsepower or worse emission rating is not damaging the road, which is what a tax on cars “should be for”, so the heavier the vehicle the higher the taxes would be very fair.
@AxGarage
@AxGarage 5 күн бұрын
@@yannicg I agree with you. The weight is what should be considered, and truthfully I'm not sure if they do base it off that, they might be already. A 9000lb Hummer EV should pay more in wheel tax than a ~4000lb Nissan leaf.

Subaru Outback is $128 for two years in Oregon, EV is about $550! The state isn't leaving any money on the table for you after charging. I reserved an R2 for when it comes out and intend to get it - should I wait for that or get an R1S now?
@JerryRigEverything
@JerryRigEverything 5 күн бұрын
The R2 will definitely be cheaper! But a used R1S isn't priced too bad either. (Compared to what else is out there) buying a new vehicle is usually a bad financial idea.... unless you make money with that vehicle.

@@JerryRigEverythingI’d say that it’s all relative. Financing is certainly more palatable when it comes to new vehicles vs. interest rates on used ones.

I have to praise Rivian for their commitment to service, continuing improvement, customer service. and overall quality. I've driven Rivians, Teslas, Mach-Es, and even the Cybertruck. If i could afford a new vehicle, Rivian would be my first choice.

A cracked windshield is NOT a cosmetic defect. It is designed to protect you from collision with larger objects as well and that crack compromises this ability. In most European countries (I am actually trying to think where this is NOT the case) a cracked windshield fails your technical inspection, which is yearly.
@MartinzW
@MartinzW 5 күн бұрын
Fails to an extent, you get a mark depending on the level of crack. But you are right generally. US has generally looser car safety laws than a lot of EU countries.
@JJFlores197
@JJFlores197 5 күн бұрын
@@MartinzW And in California, there are no vehicle safety inspections. Its quite ironic as California is the most over regulated and taxed state in the US, but CA govt. doesn't care about how safe your car is. Your car can be in unsafe condition to drive and no one cares, but god forbid it doesn't pass smog test (emissions testing).

Pretty sure the heated area at the bottom of the windshield is do "defrost" the wipers, so that they dont freeze to the windshield during icy conditions, or to release them after an ice storm

Electric vehicles are simple, but the design of the body is mindlessly complex. After seeing that you must disassemble the entire bed for a tonneau cover and the frunk for the wind shield give me chills about the expiry of the 8 year warranty. It is interesting to see how is is all assembled.

Looks like a nice truck that's poorly designed from a repair standpoint. The fact that the windshield cracked so easily and the amount of labor required to replace it is ridiculous. The dirt and other stuff collecting under the bed is bad too.
