Very recently I was searching desperately for a centerpiece fish for my blackwater aquarium. My research yielded results but if this video came out 2 weeks ago this vid would save me so much time. Real nice information, I would just add that people shouldn't look down on the regular domesticated betta. They need to be acclimated very gradually into it but they can definitely benefit from a blackwater environment

Yes, Regular bettas definitely also make a great addition into a Blackwater aquarium. Thank you for the comment 😊🙏

I've got honey & sunset gouramis & ember tetras in my blackwater tank. It glows when I turn its light on. It's one of my favorite tanks. (All of mine are heavily planted too.)

Oi do I need pour some black ink to the water to make black water or just like boytope?

Do you have to do water changes on black water tanks?
@AussieFishKeeping.8 ай бұрын
Yes, you definitely still have to do water changes however they do not need to be as frequent as a regular aquarium. :)

You actually don’t. Outside of how hard water you have, top offs and supplementing your filter will make it non existence to do water changes.

Sir can I keep a wild betta,tetras and the cichlid you mentioned in a 10 gallon?
@AussieFishKeeping.8 ай бұрын
I wouldn’t recommend keeping wild betta with apistogrammas. However both can comfortably live with tetras 😊

Would love a list of good Australian natives. Even better if we could get a brackish and freshwater list

So i have a blackwater tank its about 7.5ph and 15deg german. Just because its balckwater doesnt mean its super low ph, just depends where your parameters are to start with before blackening the water... Just think its not that wise to suggest that blackwater automatically means super low ph and these are the only fish you can keep. You need to keep fish that match your waters parameters so check it or get your lfs to test a sample. Never make assumptions.

Probably due to that in nature usually blackwater is closely related to acidic ph, I have never heard or read of blackwater biotope that is freshwater and has alkaline ph, nor any species profile that lives in such conditions, unless you show me instead.

@@caiocesar8242 I didn't say that it did occur in nature, nor am I saying it doesn't, I wouldn't have any idea I'm not a botanist, environmentalist or whatever I just keep water in a tank, that because my water is so hard going through the process to make it blackwater has left me those parameters, and some other people with exceptionally hard water may be fooled into thinking that because it's blackwater it's acidic and low pH conditions and therefore suitable for soft water fish where in reality it isn't.

I believe that's the difference in black water versus everything being just slightly lower with a bad tannin stain
