Here is a trick an old timer tought me 20 years ago ... take any body filler cheap expensive don't matter mix in a splash of acetone mix until nice and creamy spreads like butter pinholes are pretty close to being a bad memory.
@Mikefngarage5 жыл бұрын
good to know. the new fillers just sand easier than the old when it comes to premium stuff. I didnt think so because many years ago all were the same but now, like rage and ag47 really sand easy compared to the olds stuff.
@promufdvr5 жыл бұрын
I agree the new stuff does sand easier I just find it to stiff. I use rage ultra mixed with acetone very rare to get any pinholes spreads like butter on toast

I know this is old post and i have dumb question. Are you putting a splash into the whole gallon or just in the small mix your making up on the board? Thanks Marc
@promufdvr3 жыл бұрын
@@brianb5779 just a splash on to whats on the board before you add the catalyst

Yes agree there are several channels that state filler over epoxy I think this is a bad bad idea much less over paint

Great video thx. Never thought of looking at the TDS for each product until you mentioned it. Found on USC website that the TDS for every USC body filler recommends sanding within 15 minutes. I am now using USC special lite 15310,$24 a gallon. Sands easy after 15 minutes applied. Don’t know what it’s like if I wait longer and don’t want to find out its cement so I stick to the 15 minute window.

With Bondo brand if you are covering up rust holes it works for a couple of Months then it starts looking like drips running down. I messed up and now I will use the Green Glass filler and back it up with cloth . I have some pencil sized holes in the rocker panel there is about 4-5 and will have to do the work 2X.

Great video! What is the best most durable filler you've used irregardless of price? We are trying to DIY a big 1962 step van. Want it to look really great to represent our business but it's going to live outside and be used for work, so need it to be very durable for a vehicle that takes abuse. With a job this big I dont care about saving money on body fill, I just want to never have to do it again. I plan on applying it over epoxy.

Hey Mike do you know what kind of Paint was used on VWs . I read that even AE was not made until 1971 and UE came out in 1980 . Was it just oil based enamil ?

Awesome Info Mike.. in regards to Evercoat Gold,,, what about using it over POR15?? would that be ok??
@Mikefngarage5 жыл бұрын
I dont think I would try that. the por 15 paint is not catalyzed and even if you scuff it up might react with filler. Definately not gold. but if it was completely dry maybe and I say maybe ag47.

Got some rust holes in the roof of my van. Would ag 47 work? I have filled holes with some jb steelstik as well and plan on using the AG47 over the epoxy resin putty and metal. Let me know what you think, thanks

Mike,I'm going to get a gal of the ag47,I hope it sands easier than the zgrip,and I dont want to spend 70 bucks for rage gold. Going to get it on your experience.
@Mikefngarage4 жыл бұрын
for sure it does. I tested them both and it sands way faster. Zgrip is good but it is a bit better. Also there is one from Auto art that even sands faster but it does pinhole a bit. Ag47 is super creamy and sands smooth and really fast. Try the USC pro glaze with it also sands fast.

@@Tigerchevelle77 cool nobody around here sells it anymore. I will go there too. just looked it up. gotta see what they have there. OH and if you want to try another really fast sanding filler. Go to One stop In riverside near car craft and get the auto art eurofil it sands a bit faster...But it does not spread as good and it does pinhole a bit. Not a big deal when you have large areas to sand. but just want to be real.

I'm contemplating AG47 vs Rage Ultra. Any thoughts?
@Mikefngarage2 жыл бұрын
Ag47 is really easy to sand. Rage might be almost unnoticeably easier to sand. but cost more than 2 time as much. For the price ag47 is the best value. it has a new name but same part number USC grip filler. All the guys who I know tried it and switched and are now using it. Love it.

Open the can, mix it, spread it correctly removes a lot of air pockets/pinholes and show the sand paper load up or not. I can see pictures of body filler all day, but put on metal side by side and work it. Perhaps you will get people to watch, subscribe and learn. I could take your word but I want to one and be done. Evercoat Rage cost a little more but I can put it over epoxy all day. Try SPI epoxy as epoxy seals the panel from humidity and wet sanding. Forget the primer as moisture soaks into the substrate or filler. Most of us have been in garages with no insolation or vapor barrier and the floor is so wet you can slip. Most of use do not have climate controlled working conditions. We are in a garage under the edge of a house or attached. I could put a mini-split system for heat and cooling. You want hits, we want learning on what works. If I have to pay $20 dollars more for a filler that sands with 80 grit or 120. That makes it more optimistic for easy of use, finer scratches, less waste, less sandpaper and provides a surface for a high build primer that I can block sand and move on.
