There are a lot of good books for learning biblical Hebrew. In this video, I tell you about why this one is my favorite. That book is Learning Biblical Hebrew by Karl V. Kutz and Rebekah L. Josberger published by Lexham Press, 2018. It has everything and more you want in a grammar. This is my go to book when I teach Hebrew or just need a refresher.

Dr. Kutz was my Hebrew instructor. I haven't watched your video yet, but it is an excellent grammar. I think it should be called an intermediate Hebrew grammar. I have other grammars, but they are just not on that level. If a person just has this grammar and a good grasp on vocabulary (with Hebrew flashcards) they will be in a good place to read the Hebrew Bible. The Hebrew students that come out of University Wisconsin/Madison seem to be pretty good.

@@bitesizeseminary Funny, may also depend on the individual. I have so far liked Hebrew more. The language seems very devotional. I also find, when learning languages, the weight of grammar makes it easy to forget once you are finished with the class. would like more classes to focus on fluency. many people forget "paradigms" etc.

I find the use of קטל (slaughter) as a paradigm source, totally incongruent with the mind of Elohim or the teachings of Yehoshua haMashiach. Though I realise that this use started a long time ago - it is not a good choice of verb to inculcate with the study of Hebrew and haDavar Elohim.

K/J finally arrived. Was waiting for the text while I already had workbook. I see why you recommended it. Thank you! I think John Schwandt’s introduction to Biblical Greek may be similar?
@bitesizeseminary
@bitesizeseminary Жыл бұрын
Nice!! Hope you enjoy it 😊 I’m not super familiar with Schwandt’s book. I’ve skimmed it a bit but I don’t have a copy of it. It seems heavier on morphology, which is helpful(!), but for me that approach is a little taxing and laborious. My favorite Greek grammar is Rodney Decker’s Reading Koine Greek. I think this is fairly comparable to K/J’s Learning Biblical Hebrew. It has really good explanations for things like verbal aspect and the middle voice. I really like his approach to morphology as learning formulas not just wrote memory of whole paradigms. It simplifies the memory work a bit. This is the Greek grammar I teach out of. I’m hoping to make a video about it soon too. 😀

@@dusttalking6871 Nice! Hopefully you like Decker! I actually just made a video on it, like 2 days ago. 😄 I really, really like Mathewson and Emig's book too. My one gripe is the chapter on noun/adj cases. I find it's not super clear for a student. But other than that really solid book. Unfortunately, I don't know about Vine's Greek Grammar. I tried to start learning Greek out of it on my own a long time ago. But never really got past the alphabet. I just haven't returned to it since actually learning Greek. 😂

Don't waste time on "Biblical Hebrew" which is only a one facet (out of few) of the Hebrew language. Just learn Hebrew. When you have Hebrew you can very easily master the biblical text. On the other hand, if you even master the "Biblical Hebrew", you will not be able to understand modern Hebrew.

It is your opinion,so don't discourage him or others, because you don't think so,besides biblical hebrew is not useless if you trying to understand Bible better or another sources written in the ancient hebrew, because modern hebrew has lost a few grammatical devices,that are not used in modern hebrew and in transcribing Bible into modern hebrew your comprehension of it will be a little bit disproportional in terms of meaning of particular grammatical syntax in certain words and phrases in text itself and so on.

@@Ғарыштық You're right' if you want to understand the bible you need to learn the biblical Hebrew. All I said is that if you master modern Hebrew, the biblical way pf expression ("biblical Hebrew") will be very easy for you to understand. @@ashershaham Yes of course, but for me personally I am not interested in modern hebrew and reasons are simply subjective for instance:I don't like phonetics of modern hebrew,because they are not very variable in sense of sound abilities,which biblical hebrew has and other is that I want strictly to understand the Bible and not to speak with jews in Israel or to know the language simply to read a book or to go to Israel and be able to read signes there.I am more interested in Biblical comprehansion and maybe writing for myself in biblical hebrew just for fun purposes.

@@ashershaham I don't agree,that they sound the same,because modern hebrew doesn't have sounds like[θˌβˌħˌqˌɬˌɣˌʔˌð and so on]I know that the Biblical hebrew had and has many variants,but this is known to be the standard usually and most commonly met variant of biblical hebrew.The currant version of hebrew is based upon Yidish pronouciation used by jews living in Europe and other countries beside the Mizrahi jews.
