I've been reading the book, and I'm almost done. I first heard about the book because I knew his spouse; I went to college with her. She posted about Javier Zamora's book on Instagram back in April and how he won a book prize for it before the paperback version was released in June. I forget which award he won. But I was curious about the book and was able to borrow a copy from my local library. It's so moving and emotional. I can't even imagine what he was going through at the time. I also like watching his interviews. I hope Javier can reunite with Chino, Patricia, and Carla someday.

Over my whole life, I have struggled with my identity, gender, sexuality, ethnicity, etc. It wasn't until the pandemic that I began exploring those topics and not just pushing them off to the side and acting like they didn't exist. In 2021, I fully accepted the fact I am latina instead of denying it like I had for so many years, even though every nickname and insult I had ever recieved was related to it, taco, little burrito, catapiller eyebrows, etc. I began learning Spanish and trying to connect more to that side of my family. I look forward to seeing all this book has and the experience so many go through. I fully agree things like this need to be taught in schools because as it is now, so many people are dehumanized by the general public and I feel learning their experience and why they are doing what they are would help fight against that.

Thanks for sharing your experience, I believe part of the dehumanization we learn since a young age comes throuhg language and education. That is why it is so important to have stories like these in school, and to resist other messages that promote exclusion. I wish you the best of lucks with your Español. Nunca es tarde. If you would like more spanish recommendations just let me know

I just ordered it after a few minutes of research on it. I'm expecting to receive it tomorrow. If you don't mind I'd like to use this "review" on our platform to help get this book exposed more to the public. Let me know if that's ok with you.

Thank you. I took a break from booktok, booktube, and bookstagram. I was focusing on my MA thesis and trying to disconnect with the more toxic side of social media. But I am planning my next video
