What are your best books of the year if you can only choose one per month?
@nanimaonovi2528Ай бұрын
Ow. I work at a Library, only one a month? I'm picking the 5 star for Emily books. 'How to Say Babylon' Safiyah Sinclair, 'The Brief History of the Dead' Kevin Brockmeier, 'The Summer Book' Tove Jaansen, 'The Wonder Engine' by T Kingfisher, 'Names For the Sea' Sara Moss, 'In Praise of Difficult Women' Karen Karbo, 'Why Fish Don't Exist' Lulu Miller, 'The Girl Who Kept the Castle' Ryan Graudin, 'Of Time and Turtles' Sy Montgomery. So far this month 'Diavola' by Jennifer Thorne is in the top spot, it's a perfect Halloween read.

This is tough because I've read 99 books this year and 13 of them have been five star reads but I'd say: In the Middle of Hickory Lane The Book of Doors The Blueprint Iona Iverson's Rules for Commuting Funny Story How to Age Disgracefully Lula Dean's little Library of Banned Books The Spellshop Business Casual And so far this month, The Lost Story

I love your end-of-year bracket to pick your “best book of the year.” I’d like to see a bracket where you take your top 3-5 books from each year you’ve been on KZbin and narrow them down to your top book of the decade.

I am not sure what I searched that led me to this video, but I had bought The Will of the Many based on your recommendation and I started reading immediately after I got my copy. I’m almost done and came back to say thank you. I’m not usually a fantasy fan, but was looking for something different that may get me excited about reading again. Which I am a big reader, always have a book with me. But lately I hadn’t been loving any of the books I was reading.

an amazing book where the main character dies right at the beginning: the posthumous memoirs of brás cubas, by machado de assis. it's a brazilian novel, I love it, it's not fantasy or scifi but it's so clever and well written!! I read it in portuguese, as it is my first language, but I have friends reading it in english and also really enjoying!!

I read Atonement way back when, but I don't remember the whole story. I did like it though. I liked Gone Girl too, read it when it first came out. I want to read The Story of the Lost Child. I remember one line from Gone Girl, "I knew he didn't love me anymore, but this is ridiculous." It was funny and stuck with me. All the Colors of the Dark was something! I wanted still more from it. So good. Where in Canada are you from?

One Dark Window was one of the worst books I've attempted to read this year. Everything feelt overdone and falsely deep, very « I’m 14 in 2010 and on Tumblr » vibes 😬 I mean, Chapter two's opening line is "Nothing is free. Nothing is safe. Magic is love, but also, it's hate. It comes at a cost; You're found, and you're lost. Magic is love, but also, it's hate". And she’s an orphan with a very meaaaaan stepmother and twin sisters but it’s not her dad’s fault even if he lets everyone be mean to her and not live with them. Also she has two different kinds of magic we don’t know anything about despite numerous info dumps and obtains it exactly in the same way twice through chapters 1 & 2, meaning fainting and getting them from a mysterious entity each time *eyeroll intensifies*. I event tried to look up later in the book if the style got better but the first line I got my eyes on was « Even in the darkness of my blindfold, the black was distinct. Black like my eyes - black like magic». I mean, COME ON Such a shame because the first two-three pages were pretty atmospheric.
