I also ended up feeling like Evelyn Hugo was an actual movie star while I was reading the book. It was just so convincing. Most of the times that there are fake celebrities or fake movies in books they don't really feel real. But that wasn't the case here.

I read over 100 books this year and had made up my top ten favs. Some are singular books in a series considering I liked some more independently or they stand out more than others In no particular order; -Six of Crows (yes unpopular opinion, I preferred it over Crooked Kingdom) -A Court of Thorns and Roses series -The Dream Thieves (only really enjoyed this one sadly :[ ) -An Ember in the Ashes series -House of Hades -Cress -Scythe (actually preferred this over Thunderhead) -Gemina -A Darker Shade of Magic -To All the Boys I've Loved Before (only the first one, others were just meh)

I love how you recognize that the character development happened in The Gathering of Shadows because I believed it too. I was just tired of seeing reviews that that book was like a filler or unnecessary or could have split to become duology. Ugh. I mean Alucard. Alucard. Right? Haha. Happy New year! :D thank you for the vid.

Ah, so happy to see someone talking about Garth Nix! I read Abhorsen late last year and it was one of my favourite books of the year/all time! I think the ending, especially the final image, of the trilogy was perfect.

Caz you forever come to slay. Need to read Abhorsen and Fire so bad esp with your description! I REALLY love how you specify exactly what appealed to you and it really helps a viewer understand what angle could be interesting. NEED Obsidio for Jay. Though I had issues with Muse the worldbuilding and the pacing were impeccable. My favorite thing is monsters...I am in love. Amazing video!

My favourite reads of 2018 were: * Eliza and Her Monsters by Francesca Zappia * The Serpent King by Jeff Zentner * The Half Bad trilogy by Sally Green (the audiobooks are sooo good!!) * Nevernight by Jay Kristoff (haven't gotten to Godsgrave yet!) * They Both Die at the End by Adam Silvera I listened to TSK, Half Bad and TBDatE on audio and the narrators were excellent. Sally Green's The Smoke Thieves was also really good as a start to a new series.

Strange the Dreamer and Muse of Nightmares are book perfection for me. You hit the nail on the head with what you say about the antagonists - they're not irredeemable villains, their actions are totally understandable, and I love that for both the antagonists the solution to 'defeating' them wasn't force or violence, it was changing their hearts and minds. And for Sarai to be able to use her abilities to do that, after so many years of being the Muse of Nightmares and using her powers to bring misery to the people of Weep, was beautiful. And yes, Thyon Nero is amazing. I need a novella about him and Ruza...

Children of Blood and Bone also was one of my favourite books of the year. Such a stunning debut and fantasy novel. I'm very eager to read the second book! I wasn't as blown away by Obsidio, though I still enjoyed it. I didn't like that all the books' plots starting feeling quite similar in their build up and they all had two new main characters fall in love. Saying that, I did really enjoy the world building and the format remains so incredible.

I'm obsessed with The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo ❤❤ I still need to read the Six of Crows duology. *hangs head in shame* OMG! I had a really great reading year, despite me more or less taking the first 5 months out as I was writing my Master thesis and barely read anything for fun. I still read 146 books and as I was writing my retrospect blog post, I discovered that I have not given any books 1 star and only 2 got 2 stars, but more than 70 of my read books were 4 star reads. It also makes it so difficult to pick a favorite, but The Hate I Give is also on my list and I really want people to notice The Bone Sparrow as well.
