Thanks for the comments Gary. Yeah few people have said that the mirrored views of the products were a little distracting. It wasn't done on purpose just the joys of filming a lot of this stuff on my own with a smart phone or go-pro. Originally I had surface lures and poppers such as osp bent minnows and savage poppers it was at the end of the video but I took it out as I thought 20 minutes would be to long and probably loose peoples attention.

Great video Alan. The vast array of options is quite amazing. Those Cranka crabs are pricey. You wouldn't wanna hook a big bream first cast and have him take you around a pylon. They are amazingly realistic though.
@fishingmad
@fishingmad 4 жыл бұрын
Thanks Darren, you sure are right about the Cranka crabs. I remember the first time I used one I hooked a bream on the nong about 4th cast and it wrapped me around some timber. I got heaps of big strikes on the the 3d shrimp but not a lot of hookups. @fishingmad 4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the positive comment Tony. You may also want to check out this video which is similar for flathead kzbin.info/www/bejne/eorXk2Wch6qXl8U In terms of recommending a good bream rod for under $100 have a look at the Savage Manic 2-4 package which includes a 2-4 kilo rod, 2000 size reel spooled with 6 pound braid and a container of soft plastics and jig heads. BCF had them on special all last month from $249 to $99 which is great value. I bought one myself. Not sure if the speacil is still running or not. Otherwise youll need to look at something like the Daiwa Aird-X 2-4 kilo or shimano Raider. I want to get into lure fishing but it seems so hard to get used to, I want to get a lure that is easy to use and simple to retrieve, I heard a simple cast and retrieve or “slow roll” like you mentioned can be used for spoons or some hard body lures, but I didn’t know that it could be used for soft plastics as well! 😮 I’ve got some squidgie wrigglers so I might try just a cast and slow roll retrieve, wdy reckon? (I just find it to difficult to do any sort of twitching or rod lifts when retrieving, I want the easiest way possible haha)
@fishingmad
@fishingmad 4 жыл бұрын
Keep persisting once you start catching with lures and plastics its hard to go back to bait. Small squidgee wriglers, and zman grubz are perfect starting soft plastics. Dont need to do anything fancy, just cast and slow roll and away you go. The 2 first soft plastics featured in this video are perfect options to start with

@@fishingmad Thanks mate really appreciate it! Whats the general set up for the line? I heard its braid for the main line and mono for the leader? Or is it the other way around? Is the general rule that ur leader be thicker than ur main line? Will using lures still working but have just one main line? Sorry for asking so many questions haha. Anyways, you gained a sub, you're really informative and just a bloke that knows how to teach people about fishing !
@fishingmad
@fishingmad 4 жыл бұрын
No problems happy to help. I always use braid as my main line finished with 1 rod length of leader. usually the same strength. Eg if im fishing for bream I would have my mainline spooled with 6 pound braid and 6 pound leader sometimes lighter. Same applies when fishing soft plastics for say flathead or pinkies 10 pound braid finished with 1 rod length of 10 pound leader. the idea is braid allows you to cast far and doesn't stretch so you can feel the bites and the leader is thin, strong, has some stretch and harder for fish to see

@fishingmad
@fishingmad 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Sean the shape of the lure and the action is quite different. A crank lure has a significantly wider profile, and a big action when moving. Bream love them. Hard body lures are usually a smaller more realistic body that mimic a baitfish or minnow. They both work very well. Id suggest if you get a chance get one of each like a Daiwa double clutch and a Savage Gear Fathead crank and you will start to notice the differences. I hope that helps

Its not true lure fishing when you use scent. The whole reason lure fishing was devised was to remove taste and smell from the process and to consequently increase the sense of accomplishment in just visually "luring" the fish! Its ok to do this if you're desperate for fish, just dont kid yourself that you're doing proper lure fishing. And why people pay for expensive scents when they could rub some real bait on the lure escapes me. People, particularly when they are young are so affected by marketing.

Im confused, nearly every soft plastics fisherman I know uses scent, and there are countless manufacturers in the fishing market ( s-factor, procure, dizzy scents etc ) who design scent for soft plastics fishing. I dont sell or market any products, its not what i do. But Why would these products exist if your weren't supposed to use them ??

@@fishingmad Its because of that marketing bit at the end. The concept has been diluted in the quest for making money. Its OK if you want to do it but it's like getting a root at a brothel.

Just on S factor, it wasnt designed for scenting soft plastics or any other lure type. It was developed by Dr Ben Diggles of the NSW fisheries. In aquaculture, the fish are given antibiotics to prevent desease outbreaks wiping out a whole holding area full of fish. They need to feed these antibiotics to the fish but these drugs have an extremely objectionable taste, which creates an obvious problem. S factor was devised as a masking agent to hide this objectionable taste and hence make the drug laden food palletable to the fish. Shimano were located not to far from the fisheries base at cronulla. Some shimano employees used to fish with some fisheries employees, possibly Ben Diggles himself but I'm not sure. The rest , as they say , is history. Ive worked in the industry for 26 years which is how I know this , just in case your wondering. Thought you might be interested.

Very interested, thanks a lot for the detailed history. I do a bit for some aqaculture facilities and what you said does make sense. I guess the thing is these days that the product is marketed as fish attractant specifically for soft plastics and lures. For example of you look up S-Factor for BCF, Ananconda, any other major retail chain it specifically says the product is made for soft plastics and lures to attract fish.

Im not sure which marketing part your talking about. I think the only thing i ever said was some recommendations for your tackleboxes next time you go shopping, which isnt exactly flogging product down peoples throats. Have a look at some of the recent shimano videos and then you will see what flogging product is all about.
