Hi also a college student here...I got my budge iPad senior year of high school and now I'm in my sophomore year of college. Yes I am thinking heavily about upgrading my budget iPad to an iPad Pro because of the exact issue with the writing experience that you brought up, but I'm not sure if it's gonna be a waste of money since my budget iPad is working perfectly fine for everything. In addition, I am a computer science student so I'm pretty sure iPad pro can't help me with much coursework besides note-taking (I know a lot of students replace their laptop with an iPad pro but since I can't code on an iPad that's definitely not applicable to me) I guess I kinda have the money but don't want to spend it unnecessarily. Any advice? Thanks a lot~

The Apple Pencil 1st gen does not work with the 2018/2020 ipad pros. Only the older models. Without the lightning port it can’t pair with a device that has a usb-c port. 7:16

Great video! I agree with you. Only few reviewers mention the sound the pencil creates with the non-laminated display. Actually I came across your video searching for comparison of ipad air 4 and ipad 8th gen but what you described here using these models gives same comparison with the latest models now in 2021.

Great video. I don't have the iPad Pro and I bought my iPad at the last year of college so I wasn't going to drop 800 bucks on something like that but you're right on everything you say, except the thing about the home button (in my experience). Plus if you wanna do video and media consumption the Pro is a nobrainer if you got the cash and are going to use it for a few years. That said, for 430 bucks new or less used, you're getting a very very very good notetaking tool. And a decent media consumption tool too. I'm super happy, and some complaints you give are IMO not really relevant. I had noticed the sound, but never felt it was wrong. Same with the laminated complaint. It is true, but it's not something that impedes workflow in any way. I don't find myself ever wishing for an iPad Pro for those reasons. The charging thing is very annoying. The cap problem can be solved with a pen silicon sleeve. You'll have to get one since it doesn't attach to the ipad itself lmao.

Thanks so much yet again for a very informative comment! I'm so grateful for all of your feedback! And yes, the budget iPad is definitely such a great steal for all its capabilities!

An ipad would be nice for taking notes. I'm always taking notes for classes, and I sure waste a lot of paper doing it. We don't have an unlimited amount of paper, you know. And as a musician as well, having sheet music in front of you on a screen is pretty helpful when you're trying to play in front of a mic. I wouldn't use it for ensembles because I like the traditional physical paper in front of me when I'm reading it. I feel like I'd get a lot of use out of an ipad.

Great video. Just one question. You seem to build your workflow around traditional hand-writing for the most part. Whats your opinion to use an (attachable) keyboard, or did you made any experiences so far which would still make an Ipad superior to other tablets (looking at the surface)? As someone who kind of had to give up on his own handwriting (but still loves to use the pens for drawing I struggle with the choice. Just curious : ) + Exactly that kind of comparisons I usually look for but never discover. But hey you are new over here and this is great because I nearly lost hope in actual informative new Channels. Thanks for taking the advantage of a making that video I couldnt get myself motivate to ever haha. Keep going (pls pls)

Thanks so much for the feedback, I really appreciate it! This video hasn't gotten a lot of attention, so I'm very glad that you commented :) Yes, indeed - I mainly use my iPad for handwritten notes. For typed notes, I usually create them on my laptop (which is occasionally connected to my external monitor and keyboard), so I rarely ever find the need to have an attachable keyboard for my iPad. I love the iPad for its portability and I find that a keyboard adds too much bulkiness to the originally sleek design. Regarding a comparison of the iPad with other tablets (Samsung or Surface, etc.), I find that the iPad fits better with my personal workflow. I am a huge Apple enthusiast and love how easily the iPad is integrated into the Apple ecosystem. Hope that helps :) Glad you enjoyed the video :)

It’s worth looking at the iPad Air too because if you don’t need the power of the Pro and you’re happy with lightning connector and pencil v1, the Air is more cost effective and has laminated screen.

Why don't people call the budget iPad by its name, iPad 8th gen. The budget iPad still isn't super cheap. I don't like in a tier of high priced items the least expensive is the budget iPad. It implies to me the only people who need to budget are for a 400-$500 iPad. Which is still a good chunk of change. Basically to me people on the middle class are made out to be poor, because you just didn't want to drop over a $1000 on a tablet. I don't know about anyone else. It just rubs me the wrong way. Why don't you just call it the 8th gen or whatever gen?
@NotesWithRen4 жыл бұрын
Hi Kathryn! Thanks so much for pointing this out! I honestly personally prefer calling the iPad by its generation name as well, but the KZbin community generally accepts the term 'Budget iPad' more, and it seems to have adopted that name for itself! To avoid confusion (since honestly the generation names might be a bit confusing), I've just followed that convention! Sorry if that caused you any sort of discomfort, and thank you again for expressing your concerns :) I really appreciate any feedback :)

Thanks again for another wonderful video. I happen to be a now long time owner of the iPad Pro 2018 and agree with your assessments. This should probably go in the Obsidian video you did (and the first of your videos that I watched) but I'd love to see a video about taking notes on the iPad that can be used with Obsidian, which would mean some other markdown app, but which can mimic as much of Obsidian's features as possible - for instance the linking in Obsidian. Look forward to another great video. Thank you for your work and thorough presentations.

Another great video ! I have been on the hunt for a large e-ink screen e-reader (ex: Remarkable 2 or Onyx) mostly to read research articles, books and take notes without wondering about the battery life. The issue ? Some options are fairly expensive and made me wonder if a tablet wouldn't be a better alternative. Question: While reading & taking notes were you often worried about the battery life ? Do you eyes hurt after a 3h reading ?
@NotesWithRen4 жыл бұрын
Thanks so much for commenting, Alec! I typically take a break from reading on my iPad every once in a while because, yes, indeed, sometimes the blue light can cause a bit of eye strain. A possible way to solve this issue is to put on the 'True Tone' display mode, and change your iPad's display settings to be more of a yellow hue. It definitely helps! Regarding battery life, I'm not usually super concerned, but I definitely bring my charger with me pretty much everywhere! Hope that's helpful :)
