Even better, the Sony amp receiver and the Kanto passive version. That's my shortlist for a soundbar replacement. If I need to add some bass I'll just get a cheap Monoprice sub.

That Sony 2-channel is a lot of amp for what you get. I remember when it would go on sale for $99 and wondering how Sony turned a profit at that price. Likewise, In my experience Kanto also makes a lot of quality products. But, I wouldn’t go the Monoprice route for a budget sub. Granted, I’ve only had 3 budget Monoprice subs, but I learned to quickly appreciate their generous return policy. Just my two cents.

Duly noted! I guess Sony is not so bothered about turning a profit with some cannibalised parts from their AV receivers, as long as they break even and keep the brand in people's homes.
