If you’re a beginner to DSLR video and you’re looking for an affordable high-quality tripod then stay tuned. This is my review of the awesome Magnus VT-4000 video tripod. For such a low price currently under $150, the Magnus VT-4000 is the best budget tripod for videos in my opinion. This is the tripod that I use for all my KZbin videos. It has a near perfect 5-star rating on Amazon and I will leave a link in the description below so you can read more about it and buy it for yourself. Let’s quickly go over the tripod and then I’ll talk about my favorite feature that makes it the best in its price range.
This is an easy-to-use sturdy aluminum tripod. It’s pretty lightweight, weighing less than 8 pounds and it can be collapsed to a pretty small size for increased portability. It does come with its own travel bag which is nice, even though it is a pretty tight fit. The tripod height can be adjusted from 27.6” to 59” using the 2-step leg locks to lock it in at the height you want so you can make it short or tall, however you want to use it. The rubber feet on the bottom of the legs can be rotated to reveal spikes in case you are shooting outdoors and need more stability.
Now the best part of this tripod system is the fluid head that comes with it. The fluid head is what makes it the best for shooting video because it provides buttery smooth pan and tilt movements that can really make your videos stand out and get to that next level. Now even though it doesn't have tension control to adjust the resistance like more expensive tripods do, it still has a pretty good amount of resistance for both panning and tilting. Here are some sample shots that were taken with the Magnus VT-4000 fluid head. I can’t believe it’s not butter, baby. It even has a built-in counter balance to improve the smoothness even more. It also has locks for the pan and tilt so you can lock the head at any position you want which comes in handy when shooting videos. Another awesome feature is the ball joint handle that allows you to adjust the entire head and get it perfectly balanced which you can verify by glancing at the bubble level that is right above it. That is so convenient to have. It comes with a quick release plate that you can mount your camera on and easily slide onto the head, and it also has a double locking mechanism which will protect your camera from accidentally sliding off the tripod. You’ll have to press the red button in order to get it off.
The only thing I would change about this tripod is the height. I’m about 6’4” so I wish this extended to at least 6 feet tall. Other than that this is a perfect tripod for beginners on a budget looking to start shooting DSLR video and I highly recommend it. This was the tripod I ended up buying after doing weeks of research, and I haven’t looked back since.

Alan Martin You will lost around 7-8 dimes. When I sit on my tripod I only lost 3-4 dimes, however your bigger. Einsteins theory of "lost dimes while sitting on tripods" state that your weight is directly proportional to the number of dimes lost.

I just used this tripod for a recent comedy sketch, and to be honest, I was blown away. I wouldn't even call this a beginner tripod. The price point is great and the functionality and features are unbelievable. I would highly recommend this to anyone looking for a solid fluid head system.

+PHvlogger well your not going to get any tripod with a fluidhead which is needed if you wanna make smooth video, that is any cheaper than this, yes you can go get a tripod for 28 bucks but good luck getting any pans worth anything on that, and this is actually very cheap for a tripod with a good build and fluidhead

I'm really interested in purchasing this tripod. But one reviewer stated his had an initial fluid head jerk at the beginning of any movement. Did your test have this problem?

Smooth panning and tilting, with any device, takes a lot of practice and steadiness. I don't have that problem, and if I do it's usually my fault. Learn how to be steady and you shouldn't experience that problem.

+Vlad Pandele The cheapers tripods under $100 most likely don't have a fluid head for the smooth pan/tilt movements. So if you want a fluid head you should get the VT-4000. If you just need a tripod to set your camera on to have a stable shot, you can get by with a cheaper tripod.

Nice review. I don't use DSLRs anymore I shoot with the sony FS700 and occasionally some heavy(ish) glass. Would this tripod work well with that set up for pans and such? And are you able to remove the head and put for example a manfrotto head on it?

How would you rate this tripod for interview use with a canon xa20. I'm currently using a davis & sanford provista 7518 tripod w/fm18 head. My tripod works great but I feel it's a little heavy duty plus it's heavy. I normally shoot on location at music venues

Yet another clone of once very popular UNOMAT PSV909 tripod. Direct successor is the LIBEC TH650DV, though. Very sturdy for the weight and very good for the price. But head have one big flaw (either with original Unomat or Libec - I have both): When you lock tilting, the head list to port side a bit. Try this with you 3pod. Another problem is "fluidness" of the head. It is made by GREASE filled in and is hard at winter and when new, but soft as butter when hot and after few years. But as comparison to any other tripods I worked with for similar or greater price, this hav efar less problems than they have. Good review!

This is not a bad tripod but if you willing to spend a little more e-imige has one the EG05A2 two stage aluminum tripod with the GH05 head it's has a mono lock system hight range from 32-67" it comes with a more durable bag then the Magnus VR-4000 and for a few dollars more you can also get a dolly

You must not know the average prices of professional video tripods. It's usually at least $200 for an entry level tripod system with a fluid head. This one's only $149.
