My 75 year old father made this recipe yesterday and I have to say you did a very good job teaching him what to do because it tasted amazing and I'll be honest I didn't think I was going to like it because I'm not a big lover of cabbage but this was definitely the comfort food we needed during this quarantine nightmare.

Hey!! I love this video! Thank you so much, super easy step by step recipe, made it for the first time, and it turned out beautiful!! I did make them kind of big, 10 total and it took 2 hours on 350 deg, then one more hour 375 deg. Finally done, much better the next day! Absorbed much of the sauce, so I would make double the sauce on a personal preference note. Very best tasting cabbage roll I’ve ever had. Used portobello 2 mushroom heads too, about 1.5 cups. So rich, and tasty. Sauce was great! I’ll have to cut down the size meat and shorten the time. Perfect to reheat the next day. Thank you!!!!!

I lived in Vienna and they had a very strong polish community there. Their Golabki always had 50% pork and 50% beef (~85% lean). You might consider this variation to this recipe.

I appreciate, your comments on this best cabbage roll recipe Golabki. You think I should work with 50% work in 50% beef. Would this make the recipe better? Glen, i can not thank you enough for this video!!!! So here is why.. My neighbor makes this about once a month and send me and my brother over some, and we both absolutely love it! I asked him the recipe, and although he explained it to me, i was still hesitant as this type of dish isn't one i have experience with and i didn't want to screw it up, but with your detailed explanation, i now feel confident to do this, so hopefully later this week i will! I also noticed you used Tuttoruso crushed tomatoes... those are 1 of the best and i use them for both my pasta sauce and my pizza sauce.. lots of people say San marzano are best, which i like too, but i think these rival them evenly. Again, thank you so much for this video, you have no idea how exited i am now that i have your "how to" available to do it!

+m1shadow Chris, thanks for your comment on my cabbage roll video recipe. I have always loved eating these cabbage rolls, and this is one of my favorite recipes for this dish. I think you'll find this very easy to cook, and when you get a chance, I would love to hear back from you on your review. I agree with you wholeheartedly on your choice of tomatoes. You could kick the sauce up a little bit, by tweaking it with some other spices, but this plain Jane comfort food stands for strong by itself. Hope you enjoy, it was my pleasure to explain to you how to cook up these cabbage rolls. Take care my friend.

They look good. I have been making these for years as I grew up eating them. I add lil V-8 juice and salsa to my tomato mixture and use just Tomato juice and brown sugar to cover the bottom of my baking dish. This way it dont dry out . I also add all the ingredients for my meat like your except the I use equal portions of pork and ground beef. I do put a little V-8 mixture inside. Vit too much , just enough. Ill have to try your and see what the difference is. Im sure as well as I am stuffed cabbage rolls are a hit with everyone. Thanks for posting your version. Ill try it.

I have worked in every tier of food service from fast food to fine dining and the gloves are a mark of a dirty chef. Not in this video but in restaurants they consider them magic gloves and you should see the horrible things that they do in them because they feel like they're sanitary when they're not. You can't feel anything when you wear gloves either so you can't feel if you have juice or raw chicken or anything else on your hands. They are dangerous to your health and they are also dangerous too inexperienced Cooks who made burn them onto the grill or a hot surface making their flesh burn much worse. It is a false sense of security and false Sanitation. The cleanest and best cooks always just simply kept their hands clean. Gloves are absolutely disgusting in a restaurant setting.

I made the cabbage rolls today and they were delicious....I am from Mexico but I ate them before and I really liked them.....I suggest to make sure to follow the recipe and add the amount of salt the Chef suggested. I have saved this recipe in my favorites.

I used to bake mine but now I just layer the rolls in a dutch oven, cover with mixture of sauce and chicken or beef broth and cook until tender.. about 1-2hrs.

Making it today ! I'm a little clumsy with getting the cabbage soft enough to remove the leaves. I got 2 heads just in case I tore up too many leaves. 😁

Love this recipe! Made it today, added finely chopped mushrooms to the meat mixture and substituted parsley by basil only because i don't like parsley. Delicious!!! Thank you for sharing ☺

Thank you for a GREAT recipe: for anyone reading my post, if a recipe calls for uncooked rice, I don't usually go any further, the book is closed, or the video is changed. The Bald Chef is giving an outstanding recipe, (very similar to what we use), and it will turn out PERFECT ! (the addition of uncooked rice makes a tough, dry stuffing, the addition of cooked rice, makes all the difference in the world)... Thank you Chef. Please excuse the following: I would use more sauce (because I like them juicy)(or one could make extra sauce to serve on the side), and I would avoid all contact with aluminum (as it could add aluminum into the sauce. Shoot for a le'crucet sp? type of pot, or something glass with a lid) Thanks again !

i always serve mashed potatoes and carrots on the side ....love having extra sauce for this....def a crucet pot i am a bit paranoid on aluminum,,,,don't even use a calderon for my puertorican cooking

Really good video and recipe. My mother would make something similar but instead of crushed tomatoes we would use cans of tomato soup and also add bacon to the mixture. You should try adding some next time, it adds so much flavor!
@thebaldchef149 жыл бұрын
+2bebabified I think bacon, would make this cabbage roll recipe even better. Very good idea, my version tasted outstanding, and with a little tweak it might be over-the-top. Thanks for your comment, I certainly appreciate you stopping by.

Great recipe, Chef. Thanks for sharing. One difference for me is to mix some of the sauce in with the meat mixture. makes it a lot more tomatoey
