Thank you for doing a top free but also a top paid. I know not everyone can afford to throw money at an app but knowing what I know about what apps take from you when they are free I feel much better having a paid version. When the product online seems free that means you are the product being sold

Everyone has enough to purchase an app it's about prioritization, most people don't care about losing Weight enough or are too afraid of pain that they can't invest a few dollars into their health. If health and counting calories is a priority people would have these apps

Don't want ads. Don't want to accept some stupid privacy policy. Don't want to pay a subscription. Don't know a free app that isn't dodgy one way or the other. For one of them, it said it "disclosed" geolocation and sensory data to other parties for "business purposes". I don't want random companies having access to my location data -- that is for apps that need it. Would be much better if I didn't need to make an account and could track everything locally. Probably going to do things manually or use samsung health (which isn't very precise) since none of these do what I want. How hard is it to make an app that scans barcodes and looks in a database for information? It's not something you should be paying for. Calculating your maintenance is easy too. Too many bells and whistles.
@godofredo4043 жыл бұрын
What have you concluded? Counting calories, macros and micros seems difficult, but i'd also like not to give out my data.
@ivanmadethis2 жыл бұрын
Well clearly you know absolutely nothing about the time and effort it takes to create an app that actually works and is accurate. If you did then you'd know paying $5/month is nothing for what you get in return. And if they made half of features free and all they asked in return is your email then that's a pretty good deal, my friend. They're giving you so much for free and you're not willing to give them absolutely anything in return. Seems a little selfish, don't you think? If these app developers are getting absolutely nothing back why would ANYONE ever spend their time creating all these apps that make our lives better then?? Gotta change that mentality, buddy. The world doesn't work that way anymore.

I've used Carbon for 3 months and I have never had it automatically adjust my calories if I go over one day. There are manual sliders that the user can adjust for higher calorie days but nothing I have seen that is automatic. Also the app itself is expensive per month. The actual coach part of the app would only come into play if your goal for the week wasn't met and you were using their plan. If you set your own macros using the app the coach feature is worthless. In 3 months the coach part of the app has never done anything. I always hit my weekly goal. I am old school and tracked with pen and paper in the early 90's so I already know what percentages of macros I need to lose weight. I wish Carbon would release a free or lower pay version without the coach because I really like the simple setup and look of the tracker. Another complaint I have is exercise is no where mentioned or taken into account in this app. Neither is water intake. How can you as a coach suggest to me a macro goal if you don't know whether I have a sedentary lifestyle or in the gym 7 days a week. They charge alot for the "coach" but I venture to say most people are really only getting use out of the tracker. The coach would be helpful for those final few hard to shed pounds. I am probably dumping it next time it comes due because there are too many other macro trackers out there for free. Too bad because Carbon is the best and most polished one and yet they claim they are not a macro tracker. They are a coaching app. Uh ok. Maybe I will try cronometer again.

Yes. FDA allows variance from companies producing the food, so the food labels of what you scan are more likely to be off a little as compared to the app itself. What’s listed within the app comes from USDA or NCCDB directly.
