Sick love the video, couple of quick questions tho. 1. Can you still shoot to external if you want to? 2. When shooting proxy how much space does it take up/how much can you shoot? 3. Reckon you guys might add a log H.265 option similar to the blackmagic app? Would much prefer to use the moment app but the size vs quality of H265 is pretty great

Great feedback and questions. 1 & 3. We plan to add these features in a future update! 2. It depends on the resolution and frame rate, but the usual range is around 800 MB - 2 GB per minute. One little request is an on-screen indicator of 48MP mode. As the app is able to zoom and capture picture in between 12MP and 48MP, it would easier during composition instead of guessing, not a deal breaker though. I feel the output is different and better than post digital crop. Thanks.

Unfortunately Apple Log is only supported on the 15 Pro and Pro Max

When you select 48mp mode do you have full control over shutter speed,iso and white balance?

White balance, yes. Exposure controls unfortunately revert the capture back to 12 MP - this is an iOS limitation that affects all camera apps for now.

What about what about the LUT in the app? It's very difficult to shoot in a flat profile with no lut.

Display LUT options are also in the works. Until then, we recommend using the histogram to ensure proper exposure

Is it possible to set the photos taken in the Moment app to save somewhere other than the camera roll? I do this currently with the Lightroom app. I do this so only low res photos taken with the native camera app gets backed up into Google Photos.

Hello, I want to know if the prores 4k 60fps is the same as filming on the native camera app with an external ssd ? Will I get the same visual quality and sharpness or is the file compressed thus making the quality chppy ?

Hello! It is the same, only different is we shot 4k 60 fps in prores proxy rather than prores. Prores proxy is a more compressed file, so there will be a super small difference in sharpness that is only going to be noticeable if you zoom in 400% or more. kzbin.info/www/bejne/d6Kpc5SmfqmNac0si=e4D5EdtehVQ-U54c here is a good example comparing all prores files evenly. Be sure to watch in full hd, hope this helps!

Hello! Question about the 48mp photos - can this be achieved while shooting in manual mode? I ask because it seems that other apps force 12mp while shooting manual.

Revised: just tested it, only WB, F, EV can be adjusted when using 48MP, adjustment on S or ISO will reduce the image to 12MP without indicators. It should be an Apple gate.

Yes, manual exposure forces the image back to 12 MP. At least for now, 48 MP capture uses processing internally that wouldn't work with manual exposure.

Flat Moment is a slightly desaturated and less contrasty version of Rec709, in between LOG and Rec709 in terms of color and yes it is available for iPhone 14 Pro :)

I was hoping to get hold of the new T-series lenses to fit the Moment iPhone 13 Mini case, quite eagerly from the past couple of months now. I do understand your point that T-series lenses are 20% bigger in size & that can pose a problem to hold the lenses securely to the Drop-in Lens Mount. But, I hope you are aware that the camera systems on both the iPhone 13 & 13 Mini are identical. Both have the same camera module setup, only the overall size of iPhone 13 is bigger as it houses a bigger battery and bigger display compared to iPhone 13 Mini. Now, presently on your website iPhone 13 Drop-in Lens (pic attached), supports T-series lenses. So the obvious question that arises is why then iPhone 13 Mini can't support the same lenses while iPhone 13 can. As 13 Mini has been a favourite device of millions of iPhone users across the world due to its compact form factor with beefy capabilities, even though it has been discontinued by Apple, still people would love to hold onto these devices for many many years to come, specially because it will continue to receive an iOS update till 2027. Model Discontinuation may be a factor due to which its drop-in lenses or case were not considered to be upgraded to fit the T-series lens system in my opinion. So, I would request your Product Development team to reconsider this and check if some specific design tweaks can be engineered to resolve the weight issue, either by re-designing the Case or the Mount or both if required with adequate reinforcements, so that many many users like me can benefit out of amazing set of newly created T-series lenses with the minimalistic look of drop-in lens mount compared to the universal mount which kind of take away the seamlessness & beauty of the whole setup. These additional lenses were made in the first place to compliment the less powerful single iPhone lenses back in early days. So, now with the improved T-series lense system, if users like me, who dislike having bulky iPhone Pro or Pro Max models which by default have powerful in-built lenses in them, can't take advantage of these better lens systems, it kind of defeats the whole purpose in the first place in my opinion. Kindly keep my thoughts into consideration & let me know if something can be done for the millions of iPhone 13 Mini users & it will result in being a huge competitive advantage compared to your peers.

Hi, I'm Eric from the moment engineering team. We wanted to support the iPhone 13 mini as well but its just not possible. The camera on the 13 mini is the same as the camera on the 13 but the camera bumps are not the same. The 13 mini camera bump is smaller. Its not much smaller but its enough that it cannot work. Its not ideal but there really isn't any option for us to make the mount. The best solutions for the iPhone 13 mini is to use the universal lens clip for T-Series lenses or use the M-Series lenses

There is no native iso in LOG for the ip15 pro max, but from our experience keeping the ISO as low as possible (ISO 32) gives us best results :)

Shooting ProRAW photos with a Moment anamorphic lens, when the app desqueezes image, is it still ProRAW? Or converted into jpeg or something?

Good question. For RAW and ProRAW images, the de-squeeze functionality is disabled - as you note, it would require converting to JPG or some other non-RAW format. There is a warning about this behavior in the app.

The Moment log and flat profiles are emulations from before true log was available. If you have access to Apple Log it is strongly recommended as the preferred option for color grading.

Definitely! You can shoot in Rec709, HDR, or P3 and get footage that looks great as-is. We just wouldn't recommend using log unless you plan to edit later.

Amazing!! Wanting to switch from Blackmagic and Halide but I have a bunch of questions. 1. For pro raw photos and ProRes log videos is smart processing completely disabled leaving a completely raw image? (No noise reduction, Deep Fusion and smart hdr processing etc) 2. Is there a button to easily set everything back to automatic mode after making manual changes? 3. Is white balance locked upon recording video? 4. Are there plans to have view finder show specific aspect ratios and black out the sides not used, but still record in the normal aspect ratio 5. Video settings still have a bitrate option even when under ProRes 422HQ. Is it not already at its highest quality? Or does that option not affect it? 6. When recording 1080p video, is it down sampling 4K to 1080p to produce a more detailed 1080p ProRes log image?

Good questions! 1. ProRAW is designed specifically for Apple's smart processing. If you don't want this processing, you can shoot in regular RAW, JPG, HEIF, or TIFF - just make sure you set Photo Quality to "Speed" to avoid Deep Fusion and the like. 2. You can double tap a given manual control to reset to auto 3. If you set it manually, yes. Locking the current AWB setting is on our request list 4. Not yet, though we do have plans to expand our aspect ratio functionality 5. Correct, the bitrate setting is only applicable in HEVC or H.264 6. It uses frames as delivered by the iOS camera system, so results are the same as the native Camera app

The iPhone 13 Pro Max supports ProRes, but only at 1080p up to 30 fps on the 128 GB model. The 13 and 14 Pro models with more storage can support 4k up to 30 fps. The 13 Pro Max also supports 10-bit HDR. Are there other features you're curious about?

I use the Moment App to make photos (while using the new Blackmagic App for videos). What I still miss in the photo mode is the ability to use the "2x lense" of the iPhone 15 Pro. Only the native camera app offers the possibility to use a 48megapixel image and use the centre part. Sometimes, the 5x is too much, but a 2x zoom would be great. Please add this. Why I don't use the Moment app for videos? Well, I miss the possibility to store my clips outside the photos library and the log profile inside the app.

Sadly I still get vertical bars on the left and right with the m mount anamorphic and have done the rotate plate 90 degrees, had this issue on an xs max way back and still have it on a 15 pro max. Has anyone found any other solutions?

No the known issue of the left and right sides of the video, maybe bars are not the best word but when you move left and right the sides have shadows that appear, I understand the newer lens/t series doesnt have that issue on the newer iphones, for me i always had them and was told before on my xs max to turn off image stab (which reduces it but not completely removes)@@moment

Unfortunately we can't circumvent the laws of physics - if the gimbal arm is located in the extended field of view that the wide angle lens offers, it will show up in the recording. Which gimbal are you using?

@@moment I’ve been using Filmic Pro in addition to a DJI gimbal for a few years and I haven’t experienced this with my Moment anamorphic lens. Perhaps they are doing some computation that isn’t present in the Moment app. They allow allow for various amounts of stabilization, though I only ever use this if filming free-hand to avoid the crop, otherwise I just use the ‘standard’ amount of stabilization.

It's possible that your setup doesn't have this issue due to some other factor, especially given that Filmic's standard stabilization option does still include OIS.
