Easy and delicious candied orange peel to use in your breads and treats this holiday season. This recipe has the added benefit of making your house smell divine and utilizing all those extra orange peels. The extra punch of flavor comes from using fresh squeezed orange juice in the sugar syrup instead of water.

Thanks for sharing. I saw a video once to prevent your sieve to slip put a teaspoon through the little holes on the seave. Game changer for me

Your child is helping you in this video and we can see his or her little hands all over the table in anticipation of this delicious thing to be ready...it brought tears to my eyes :) Great recipe by the way.

May I add something ? I always remove most of the white stuff because it is bitter and also put the orange peel in cold water exchanging it 3 times every 3 hours or so b/c they must have been treated with some chemicals ..... it doesn't influence their flavour. You can also put the peel in jars, cover with the syrrup and keep them very long. Oh, the heavenly smell :))) Thanks for the idea

Margot4454 you can also boil it three times for about I think 45 minutes each to remove bitterness

@@alexandrajones1002 it should be boiled in syrrup anyway :))) I prefer soaking in cold water as "almost nothing to do " method lol

i find it interesting how much of the pith you use... basically all of it. It goes against what they teach in culinary school, but it validates my own intuition.

Lovely recipe! I've heard people say you should remove the white pith from the back of the orange peel because it is "bitter," but I never understood that because if my peels are thick, I usually slide my teeth down each peel to enjoy the white part after I eat my orange. I relish it! I think I'll leave the pith on. It is not at all bitter to me.

You know, I've never actually tasted it? I've heard people say so often that it's bitter that I've never bothered to test it for myself. Now you've got me curious, so I'm going to try it next time I have an orange.

I made this for Christmas 2019 and used it in my Christmas cake (fruit cake for you Yankees). It improved the flavor 100%.

You didn't take off white piff?? They will be bitter n so will syrup! Th for recipe .

Why do you have to boil it in water first, then throw away all that flavor and nutrients? Why not just boil it in the sugar, juice combo and be done with it. I know many chefs think orange pith is bitter, but it really is not. However, lemon and grapefruit pith is bitter. When I eat an orange I always eat some of the pith because that's where most of the bioflavonoids are.

Because that water is very bitter. Actually, that operation should be repeated at least three more times before going to the sugar part. Try it. I've thrown away a couple of batches before getting there

It’s just to remove bitterness from the peel, you’ll still get the flavor back when you make the sugar syrup In a 1/2 ratio of orange juice to sugar but that can lower the shelf life

I can’t believe you didn’t remove the white. I’m sure your results were very bitter. A warning to anyone who tries this recipe. Don’t waste your time.

Yea, the video doesn't address the type of stove used or the size of fire of the stove used. The 45 minutes assumes that other people has the same stove as her. (So, 45 minutes isn't a great idea to assume.) Lol. The guy on Townsends channel (at least) said that once you get the peels translucent, then it's ready.

It is a disastrous recipe....adding the orange juice in sugar syrup and boiling it made its bitterness double...You wasted my 1/2 cup sugar , 2 Oranges, gas , time everything!!
