Pan, I have learned a lot from you videos. I bought this past spring, SIMONIZ Platinum Professional Microfibre PlushEdged Drying Towel, 35 x 25-in from Canadian Tire. I can dry all my small SUV at once. Works well. What is your thoughts on this towel?
@PanTheOrganizer Жыл бұрын
@@rossparker5158 I haven't tried their towel unfortunately. Thanks for the kind words about my videos Ross!
@58leebee Жыл бұрын
Hi Ross, you must have had the ones that actually worked as advertised. I purchased two of the same ones and had an absolutely terrible experience with them. They would’nt absorb water for love nor money. They seemed to spread it around more than dry it up. I use the Liquidator towels now and they are monumentally better. I’m glad you had success with them.
@williamgarcia210 Жыл бұрын
I personally use the Chemical Guys towel and observed the same results which I found disappointing. Nevertheless it’s an excellent towel. A word of caution to all. Bigger is not always better. The bigger it is the heavier it becomes when wet. It also becomes very awkward to use.

You are correct, big towels are not always the way to go as they have their application. In Texas my customers love their trucks and full size SUV’s to include myself. I have small and big towels to use based on size of vehicles when I am drying side panels as opposed to roof, hood, trunks, etc.

I used the Gauntlet for a long time and loved it....until I tried Luxury Microfiber's Sucker. Noticeable improvement in water pickup and retention. I also bought a Sucker Lite which has a softer fiber on the "non-drying" side to smooth out any topper you may be using. I am able to dry my wife's X7 with a single 20" X 32" Sucker Lite. Haven't yet tried the Liquid8r.

I find that with twist loop drying towels they generally perform consistently great from the start, whereas plush towels they tend to do poorly at the beginning when they're bone dry, but after they've picked up a bit of water into all of the fibers they perform pretty much just as well as twisted loop. Osmosis is easier with the twist loop towels because the water is able to get into more fibers as they're bunched together.
@tafl-9198 Жыл бұрын
Also the plush towels doesnt hold up as well. After a few washed the fibers often start sticking together.

The Rag Company 1500 is hands down the best drying / detailing towel I've ever had. I was not able to get any wet streaks out of it even after drying a whole SUV. It absorbs water so well! Those towels bleed red so bad it's absurd. Literally, 10 washes later and they're still bleeding red. So I have to run some sacrificial towels through the washer after washing the 1500 to pick up the dye so it doesn't ruin my next load of whites.

I tested several microfiber towels. If you compare the amount of water a towel holds every good towel will absorb about the same amount per ounce of cloth. If you want to absorb more, just used the gsm and convert the area to square meters and multiply. The one with a larger value will always absorb more.

I really appreciate this video Pan and all of these towels are light years ahead of a chamois. I personally use the Gauntlet for everyday drying and a waffle weave for drying around emblems and tight nooks and crannies. The Rag Company does have the 1500 which looks like a beast of a towel. Perhaps one day someone will develop these microfiber towels into shower towels and wash cloths which I would definitely buy. It would be nice not removing all of the lint from the dryer todays shower towels leave behind. One last tip is to make sure and wash your towels after using a drying aid because it will cause streaking the next time you use your towel. Thank you for the video and I hope your doing well!

I have a pretty high pile of drying towels from many manufacturers...And they all work pretty well, but I'd have to say my go-to towel seems to be The Rag Company's "Double Twistress" at 850 GSM, because of it's handy 20"x24" size and ease of use... It's very absorbent, not unwieldy, folds well during use, and is still 1-handable even loaded up. Alcantara/ suede edges, nice thickness, smooth sliding. Just about everything you could ask for. Close second for me is the "Liquid8r" also by The Rag Company, but I find it's 1100 GSM pile just a bit too thick even in the 20"x24" size to 1-hand when it's full, but they do make a 16"x16" which I will likely order a pair of for this coming spring. Honorable mentions to the gorgeous Purple Maxshine 1200GSM Microfiber Drying Towel in 24"x35" which is among my favorite large-format "drag-style" drying towel. I just find these larger towels are more clumsy to use doing doors and lower panels, splitters, diffusers and things near the ground... dragging the tips or edges of your drying towel on the ground are just asking for a scratch, so I definitely agree with your preference for the smaller sizes. Keep up the great work and the amazing content!! I've learned so much from you, and have been entertained at the same time !!

New to the detailing universe. Great videos. Thanks. Viewed several channels on the subject of drying towels and no one seems to mention what to do if they become saturated and more drying has to be done. Can you just wring and wring 'em out until water stops dripping? Dumb question, maybe. But reviews so far I've seen are spread it out, slide it off one time and, "Yup. Picks up water." Kudos to you for responding to ALL your vids, not just the most recent ones!!
@PanTheOrganizer11 ай бұрын
Thanks for the positive feedback! I appreciate it. You can certainly wring out the towels, but more for the smaller sizes. The ultra oversized ones (for large vehicles) are harder to wring out, but on the flip-side, you shouldn't really have to wring them out as they can absorb a lot of water and you should be able to do the entire vehicle. And if you are towel drying, it's always recommended to use a quick detailer or drying aid as a buffer between the paint and the towel (less chances of marring as the drying aid acts as a lubricant) and that also helps with picking up water. Or the best scenario, if your paint is protected (wax, sealant or coating) is to use a car dryer or leaf blower (like I do) to quickly go around the vehicle. That removes 95% of the water in just a few minutes. And then you can go over the paint with a towel and drying aid to pick up the residual droplets of water and give that final touch of gloss/slickness. That's what I do. Welcome to my channel. Mammoth and Gauntlet are both popular,, but the Griots is one I haven't heard if until today. I've been using Luxury Microfiber's Sucker Jr. It's plenty big enough for my Veloster and it's was a huge upgrade from the fluffy high pile towels I had from O'Reilly Auto Parts. Use their waffle weave to pickup any leftovers, windows,, and door jams. Then I don't even remember how I got it, but I somehow acquired a small 16x16 twisted loop towel, dark gray on one side and scarlet on the other, but that's perfect for wheels!

I've used the Griot's PFM for the past 3 yrs. Outstanding towel. One towel easily takes care of an entire vehicle, even large vehicles. My only complaint is that the twisted loop snags pretty easily. I'm seriously considering trying to Gauntlet though, just to lower my cost per towel a bit.

With that said the Gauntlet, in its various sizes works the best for me. In the Arizona summer I use the larger size for the quickest drying time then switch to a smaller size for the intricate work. I use a deionizer for my water as it’s 350 tds out of the spigot.

My friend who owns a detailing business gave me a drying towel and it's my favorite, I'm not sure what towel it is. I'm probably going to purchase the rag company gauntlet soon.

love the liquid8r towels, i use them with a drying aid after using my leaf blower. my only complaint would be when the twist get caught on emblems or sharp edges they come apart very easy. I just cut those strands and keep it moving.
@PanTheOrganizer Жыл бұрын
Yeah it's typical of twist loop towels if a fiber gets caught on sharp edges, but you simply cut it off and you can continue as you noticed. :)

i agree with your number one pick, the Liquid8r is my go to drying towel, even after buying the nicer feeling Gauntlet.

G'day Pan, I have the original Rag Company Gauntlet in 2 sizes 24x15 and 12x12, I have 2 towels of each size. The 24x15 is easy manageable for me and the 12x12 is great for door handles, door jams and the various channels to get in and dry them. Great test.

If only this video showed up before I got the Chemical guys Wolly mammoth. I used it for the past 2 months and I hate that it leaves streaks. From afar it looks like it dried it good but once you come closer to it you can see all the streaks that it left which drives me crazy. Now I know which one to get thanks for the video

Great video Pan. I have used two of the five towels on the video, the Gauntlet and the Woolly Mammoth. The WM is ok but takes a couple of passes to dry. The Gauntlet on the other hand is awesome! It dries on the first try. I will be purchasing the Luxury brand drying towel as it did a great job.

You did this last year or something similar, but I tried the The Rag Company Liquid8r and haven't been disappointed one bit. I could wash 2+ cars and use just that 1 towel to try off all the water. While the other microfiber drying towels I've had only disappointed me (chemical guys).

I have a wooly mammoth, a gauntlet & a GTECHNIQ diamond sandwich towel and I find the gtechniq the absolute best in absorption and performance, but the gauntlet is a very very close second place! Can’t fault either. The wooly mammoth, as some have said too, doesn’t absorb as well initially but gets better, but it is also so big and cumbersome to use that I only use it on large vehicles really

Chemical guys towel while not my favorite I've seen absorbs better once it gets damp. I've seen the same streaking on my Adams graphene ceramic coated vehicle but I've found if I lightly mist the towel as well as the paint with Adams graphene detail spray then there isn't any streaking issues. While I havent tested other detail sprays/drying aids if you use them often you might not see a difference between the chemical guys towel and the others.
