For 4 cylinder car, I would've chosen Honda S2K. It was once hailed as the engine with the most horsepower output per liter without forced induction. And not only that, the car has 50/50 weight distribution and the driver sits _perfectly_ in the middle.

The catch was that it had around 200 WHP at 8500 RPM, meaning you had anywhere between 100 HP starting from 3500 RPM to around 180 HP at 8000 RPM where you'd shift the latest. The MX-5, mostly the ND 2.0L, is way more deserving of the best 4 cylinder car title because it actually achieves the same WHP range between the same 3500 RPM at the low end, but ends up with 180 WHP at 6500 RPM, so a whole lot earlier. The difference is with an upgraded fuel pump you can get higher numbers with the MX-5, generally you can reach 220 WHP without forced induction and E85, while for the Honda all you could really do is forced induction. That would force you to reduce the redline to not risk the already overstressed engine from blowing up, which is why most people just swapped a K-series anyways.

The Koenigsegg TFG 3 cylinder got canceled, so it won't be a real thing anyway. Officially it's because customers asked to rather get a V8, and when they decided to offer the V8 no one wanted the TFG. But there's a little suspicion from my side that maybe Koenigsegg was quite happy with that since their V8 is a working engine concept already in production and development of the TFG might have been quite troublesome. They probably struggled quite hard with it.

I think Koenigsegg has also stated that it just wasnt worth it finishing the 3 cyl since almost all of the customers wanted the V8 option instead. And that 3 cyl was very advanced with the freevalve tech and so on so i imagine it was quite tough to make a good reliable engine. It was just too much money and RnD to put in for Koenigsegg, it just doesnt make sense for such a small company to keep developing it

When it comes to Porsche flat six experience, probably the GT4 RS is an even better choice since it sounds even more insane and visceral with it's special air intakes. And: where's BMW with their I6? Their smoothness and linear power delivery is iconic - and for some also their tunability. Although that's not so much of my field of interest, I prefer them stock and enjoy the comfort.

For V8s, you can never go wrong with a small block Chevy. They're one of GM's most reliable engines, hella powerful, and they're easily attainable. They've been using Small Blocks and their deritivives since 1955 so there's no shortage of epic cars that had it. The Bel Air, the Chevelle, the Nova, the Impala, the C/K, all the way up to the C8 Corvette. If it ain't broke, after all. Now as far as V-16s care converned, may I submit the 1930s Cadillac V16s. These were some of the most opulent cars of their time; I'd argue besting even Rolls-Royce at the time. Many of the cars were coachbuilt, so you could do whatever you wanted with the body from a high-performace (for the time) roadster to a 7-passenger limo. Not to mention the engine itself produces 185 horsepower; which doesn't seem like a lot today but for 1930 that was pretty insane.

For the 16 cylinder engine cars, you could also include the Cadillac sixteen. Genuinely a gorgeous, and completely strange domestic car. For the V8 category, the C5 Corvette for spawning the almighty LS, as well as the gt40 and Shelby Cobra, and Alfa Romeo 33 steadale. For the 4 cylinders, you could put the elusive ASA 1000gt, which was basically Ferrari's attempt to make a budget sports car.

The TFG [tiny friendly giant] 3 cylinder engine, freevalve system, and hybrid powertrain with the electric motors for the Gemera is unique. It's basically a bit like the configuration of the BMW i8 but on steroids. Koenigsegg eventually discontinued it and somehow crammed the same V8 engine from the Jesko behind the rear seats which is quiet incredible packaging since making a mid-engined 4 seater car that manages to be fast and stylish can be hard to pull off.

Hybrid vehicles do not have to be bad, an electric motor can increase performance quite easily, if it is implemented correctly. Outside of high performance sports cars which are not affordable to the averadge person however, the technology is rarely implemented correctly.
