After having a chicken coop and a run for a while, the best advice I can give anyone starting out, is no matter what, if possible, build a coop and a run that is 2 feet taller than yourself. Your back will thank you later and it’s just so much easier than stooping down every time you have to go in the run. This is a fantastic coop and run!

@CrystalAlifanow Жыл бұрын
Hi! How big is the coop itself? I need a coop large enough to store supplies, like you did, but I don’t want an overly large building in my backyard. So I’m trying to determine the minimum size. I’m only planning to have around 6 hens.
@CluckinAround Жыл бұрын
8X10 and we gave my side enough space for a 24" wide door to fully open. I can use the space under the chicken area for large totes of feed, treats, and other supplies.

Poor Robin. He looks so forlorn out there. I have 4 roosters myself. 2 are separated away from the main flock, in the bachelor pad. 2 with the hens but 1 of them has to be caged because he's the beta male, even though hubby named him Rockstar (he's a blue/silver ameraucana, with long black 'mane' that looks like the long hair of 90s rock stars'). He either bullies the hens - or more like hurriedly 'does' thing before the alpha male, Spid, catches him, or gets bullied by Spid. As a result, the hens do not like him because he's rough and never does courting dance like Spid does. Just whambam no thank you, Ma'am. So sadly, I have to cage him. But the cage are large enough so he's still free to move around and it's in the middle of the run area.
@CluckinAround Жыл бұрын
Robin has access to the chicken yard, but has his own coop. He is not nice to the girls, and they do not like it. He's such a sweet boy when he isn't hurting the girls. Take a look at my shorts, and you will see his night time routine. He is so funny!
