I just found this video. I love Meyer Hatchery. I only have bantams, and I got 4 from you: a Green Queen, Steele Egger, Mottled Cochin, and a white Silkie. They hatched August 29, 2022. For anyone reading this, Meyer Hatchery offers vent sexed day-old chicks and I think that is wonderful, especially for those of us who live in a place that doesn't allow roosters. I previously had to rehome 4 roos (out of 6 chicks) from another hatchery. It's heartbreaking to raise them for 5 months only to find out they're roos (they were having a crow-off!). The 2 remaining Silkies from the other hatchery watched over the 4 from Meyer Hatchery from nearly the beginning. I started the babies in a rabbit cage inside the coop. After a week they were good to go and there were no problems. The chicks are healthy as can be. Thank you Meyer Hatchery. I loved seeing your set up!

What is that super gorgeous bird at 6:26? More info on it please! I would guess a pheasant, based upon the birds you said you have in there, but then you also said only hens were in there. Female pheasants are plain janes from what I know.

I'm curious.. the budgies etc... how do they do in the winter? It must get pretty cold there? I would LOVE to let my yellow nape amazon have fun in an aviary but I've always figured that it got too cold here in VA?
@MeyerHatchery6 ай бұрын
Thanks for your question! We reached out to Kelly and she confirmed the budgies do stay out year around. She acclimated them by taking them out in early spring/summer, once the temps were not going below 40F. Kelly called out that it’s very important to have dry, wind free shelter, food and fresh water year around. She also provides appropriate nesting materials, and the parakeets usually nest in small bird houses in the shed portion of her coop. 💖

Love the aviary setup, curious as to what you modify in the winter. I noticed that the runs all have pea gravel, how do you keep it clean
@MeyerHatchery2 жыл бұрын
Hi Nancy! Pea gravel can be washed with a hose or power washer to remove built up waste. Modifications in the winter may include plastic tarping on the exterior of the aviary.

What kind of dirt you put in your yard area
@ErikLandvall2 жыл бұрын
very impressive, gj and work to whoever set this up for you. May I ask what you feed the bird? they look super healthy and well taken care of as well. I saw a rooster with very impressive healthy feathers and colors. I'm a first year house owner, so not much experience in this field, but looking into converting an area on our lands to something similar, about half the space you got setup.
@MeyerHatchery2 жыл бұрын
Hi, Erik! Exotic birds have different protein requirements than chickens. We have wonderful resources in our help desk at meyerhatchery.com that can guide you to feeding requirements.

How big is that aviary set up? It’s so amazing
@MeyerHatchery2 жыл бұрын
The shed attached is 8x10 and the outside aviary is 20x40. 12 ft of the outside aviary has additional metal roofing for coverage. It is INCREDIBLE!

Wow that is such a beautiful coop! I did not know all those different birds could live together. I mean, if the chickens would eat the button quail, why dont they eat the finches?

In aviaries like this where each species has the space they need and the terrain they want, birds can live together easily!

Can i put ducks and chikens together ?
@MeyerHatchery Жыл бұрын
Thanks for asking! We recommend to keep ducks and chickens in separate spaces, as they do have different nutritional needs, and the ducks are extremely messy with their water.
