Hi Alex, I know this tutorial is a little old, but I want to say a big thanks for your easy to understand video tutorial. I've just finally bought a GoPro hero 5 and I am eager to learn how to use it on a regular basis. Looking around KZbin I came across yours and that was a awesome one. Keep going buddy. Well done.

Simple, nice and precise. One question Alex. How about for the ones with no experience in editing what settings would you recommend (photo and video)? What editing software do you use and which one would you recommend for a beginner easy to use? Your quality of info and your videos deserve more subscribers. I have a GoPro Hero 5 black. Thank you
@whatalexdid6 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much... I would keep the settings exactly the same, but instead of using flat colour I would use GoPro colour as it will make your footage and images more saturated and vibrant..... I use Premiere Pro and After Effects but for a beginner you could try GoPros Quik software or iMovie if you are on a Mac... Thank you so much for watching and for your kind words!

On my go pro6 for video the iso min I set to 400 right but on mine it gives me an option for max too right now it’s set to default 1600 what do you recommend on those setting thank you too by the way also why was sharpness on video set to medium not high
@whatalexdid6 жыл бұрын
winglesschip 209 if it was me I would set the max iso to 400 and min iso to either 100 or 200.. If you have the max iso set to 1600 you will get quite grainy footage in certain situations.. For video I like to add in any sharpness in post so shooting in medium sharpness produces the best results I find.. It’s easy to add in sharpness afterwards but harder to remove sharpness 😀

Could you explain why you use the iso max to 400 ? Why not higher! Thank you
@whatalexdid7 жыл бұрын
Jose Cisterna the higher your iso settings the more grain will appear in your footage, so it’s best to keep it as low as possible to make your footage look cleaner..
@wowimbored116 жыл бұрын
Good job, straightforward and simple for beginners like myself. Only 1 small little thing, the preview of the clips you took would be better to see them in full screen. But even though it was small I'm still going to use it, looking all over for a video like this! +1sub

I always use native for white balance, makes things a lot easier in post!!!
@whatalexdid6 жыл бұрын
I used to use native but used to get varying results which made grading it so hard... I have much better results setting it a constant white balance..
@unnivversal6 жыл бұрын
What Alex Did I shoot gopro on the go so it’s also easier to stick in native , if you do go with a particular setting you miss out on some of the picture quality native offers as it applies more processing in camera. Takes more post work to extract the benefits though
@whatalexdid6 жыл бұрын
So far I have found the quality better when using 6000k vs native... I found there were too many iregularities when using native, so for me using 6000k I got better results... Some people may have better results using native but for me I got better results when using 6000k... I actually found it quicker and easier to grade 6000k vs native, but I guess different surroundings will impact that..
@unnivversal6 жыл бұрын
What Alex Did I take it you don’t always use 6000k ?

@whatalexdid6 жыл бұрын
Bangn Gears to be honest I try and avoid filming at all indoors apart from the inside of a car.. The only thing I might change is the ev values to 0 and maybe bump the iso to either 400 or 800 but apart from that if I can avoid shooting indoors I do as the results are so choppy and grainy!

It's interesting that you go for high sharpness on photos. I've never tried that. Also never tried setting a manual WB. I will experiment with this! Cool video!
@whatalexdid7 жыл бұрын
I have tried low, medium and high and got best results at high for some reason! The manual white balance thing I just got into the habit which was mainly for video as I used to get frustrated that going inside would be on the blue side whereas going outside would be on the yellow side so I found setting the WB kept it consistent.. Thank you 😀
@rnsrp24 жыл бұрын

Yes exactly that... Using the settings I mention will maximise your possibilities for when it comes to editing 👌

Not long purchased a hero5 myself & tried these settings... I use the gopro Quikapp & I like it... Edit on the go... I find the voice control a blessing especial with a family... Hands can get full😂.... What "selfie stick" would you recommend please? I see the smatree are good? Any recommendations please (spending £40+ on a selfie stick is not logical to me like the gopro 3way....😳) *subscribed*🍻

Mr Rodriguez ah that’s awesome.. The voice control is so good, I use it way more than I thought I would!!! Selfie sticks, I have a GoPro 3 way which I use most of the time, it’s a selfie stick, tripod and pistol grip in one...I also have a 2.5m selfie which is so much fun.. I have a smartree selfie stick which I rarely use though as I find the 3 way does the job the best 😀

What Alex Did I've seen in my opinion better 3 ways on Amazon: Smatree X1 Aluminium Foldable Multi-functional Pole/Monopod for £22.99 witch is a more affordable option!? I do feel drawn more towards a 3 way as you do get 3 tools in one so less to carry in your bag! You cant use the 3 way in the sea can you? 😳 decisions....

Mr Rodriguez i was going to get a cheaper option but I read many reviews saying they didn’t last, so would be interested to hear how you got on 😀 I use my 3-way in the sea and swimming pool and have had no issues using it in there 🤙🏻

What Alex Did Indeed.... I have also seen many reviews on cheaper 3 ways saying they snap & break easy... Here's where quality over quantity comes into 🎬👌. I'm contemplating the Smatree X1S £26.99 on Amazon... I like to try out new things... I'm going away soon with family... Sun, Sea, Sand... So I need a 3 in 1👌! I shall be purchasing it very soon so I shall give my verdict & let you know Sir! 😎🍻 happy days*
