Thank you for your reaction and analysis of this song! As a Japanese, I would just like to point out that the word 'bun' in this song is not meant to be sexualised. As you can hear, it is not the English word 'bun'. It is a Japanese word that is pronounced like 'boon'. In Japanese, the word 'bun (boon)' is an onomatopoeia for a buzzing sound. So it can be said that in this song the word 'bun' is used for almost the same meaning as 'boom' in English.

I think what a lot of people actually missed but is properly hinted at is also Momo's screams. As she's the one that can scream in Babymetal, they also included her screams. If you pay close attention to breakdown the 2nd "Are you ready" is hers. She also screams "Everybody" at the end (and camera pans to her as the part comes). Just thought she deserves some recognition as well! :> Edit: Also, since joining the band she's done some minor screaming already. A good performance to check that out would be Momobanger for instance (can also check Moabanger for that matter as she also gets to sing in another version of the live performance).

Haha, your laugh at the breakdown was almost as harsh as the breakdown itself. :-) For me this song was the first time I heard anything from Electric Callboy, so I didn't expect much, but now I have basically been grinning for a week. It's so much fun! This came as a bit of a surprise to me, as I'm not a big fan of harsh vocals, and the disco elements have pretty much everything I hated about 90's Pop music. But this is not the first time that BABYMETAL have taught me to appreciate things that I usually don't like. As a BABYMETAL fan, it makes me particularly happy that we get to see the girls less scripted than they usually present themselves. They obviously all had a lot of fun during the making of the video. BTW, a behind-the-scenes video has already been announced, I'm really looking forward to that. I think the "bun bun bun" is just the Japanese rendition of "boom boom boom". There's no isolated "m" sound in Japanese, but the pronunciation of the "n" is shifting towards "m" when followed by certain "consonants" like b or p. (There are probably more professional terms for this, but my knowledge of Japanese and linguistics is rather superficial at best) Momoko has already brought some harsh vocals to BABYMETAL, e.g. in the live performances of the song "Metali" (see kzbin.info/www/bejne/iHrKm5l9fcyqesU ). She actually contributed the second "are you ready" to this very song as well, at 19:00. And I believe she is also joining Kevin for the "everybody" at 22:57.

Bun bun (“boo-’n boo-’n”) is the sound of bees or hornets’ wings buzzing, whirling around of something really fast, or revving of a machine in Japanese. It also might be the boing of rah-tah-tah boing in Shakespeare’s King Henry IV Part Two which is his imitation of musket fire and, methinks, recoil, back when Japan was arming itself with such arquebuses introduced to them with Christianity . . .

Its so cool to have Yamazaki Yusuke be in this MV Ratatata who was the antagonist in MC Thunder II (Dancing Like a Ninja), the second best EC beside Hurrikan combined with Neon.

JPop is very hyper sexualized and there’s endless documentaries about all the quite frankly horrors of that industry. And I’m with you, it’s awesome to see the metal community at large simply go “is this good?” “Yes” and that’s it. There’s this weird acceptance where the music is what you fight over, not the people. Reminds me of Rob Halford. Famously gay (and a big part of metal fashion) and what does the vast majority of metal fans call him? Metal god. And he even got to sing with Babymetal:) It’s also so awesome to see how much fun they have. Babymetal doesn’t feel like forced smiles and upholding an image. They are metal.

What I really love about this is seeing the girls genuinely having fun. Babymetal always seem like they enjoy what they do but they're always very serious about it. Probably some of that is simply down to "idol culture" and image being such a big part of it, but seeing all of them smiling and having a good time feels so refreshing. Like their little solo part sipping drinks and making faces at the camera, it's almost a sneak peek into their real personalities. And there is no one better to do that with than Electric Callboy.

Im pretty sure the "bun bun bun" in Japan is similar to "Boom Boom Boom" in the States. It may be a booty joke, but all the interviews I've seen of the EC biys is that the bun bun bun folkowed by the whoop whoop were added by Baby Metal as those are both big in Japanese karaoke.
@ThePotatoHoard6 ай бұрын
Yes. I have scrolled long to find a comment about this. It absolutely is to do with Japanese pop/kareoke culture. It's got nothing to do with bootys and it's really disappointing that she would use this as analysis without confirming this before posting.
@scottk86386 ай бұрын
@ThePotatoHoard I can't say anything bad about her thinking that. Especially when you look at songs like Tekkno Train and Pump It. EC is known for using double entendre in a lot of their stuff. So I'm not saying she is wrong that it may be a booty joke. It 100% could be both a booty joke and a call out to the karaoke culture. Was just calling out the references to it I've seen from Nico and Kevin.

@@scottk8638 whilst I agree I would also suggest that it is well known that BM would not be part of sexuao innuendo so it's stands to reason that she should have honestly checked that before posting. Fun fact, since this is a colab, there was some diffrent thing throw in from each side, like the Electric callboy crew, made babymetal, do more of acting scenes, instead of dance scenes, like the girls just look surprised and stuff like that, the babymetal crew made a waauuu waauuu, sound like fyiii fyiii or something, because that a japanse thing it seems like.. so i think these colab projects actually move bands, to do thing the never would have done else.. Also the wall break Callboys was told, you got one shoot, if you fall or something we put it in the video anyway!!
@رزيئة6 ай бұрын
In Japanese, they have "ha hi fu he ho" rather than "hu". So it's transcribed as "fu" but in this case it's pronounced "hu" which is the head voice sound they're making. Which is a karaoke thing and Japanese disco thing. Likely referencing "love machine" by Morning Museum.

@TheCharismaticVoice I'm curious on your take, as a vocal coach, on the first really comprehensive advise I was given when I first started learning harsh vocals: 1. Always prioritize breath control and relaxation regardless of genre/style 2. While in the falsetto register, pitch bend down into/past the vocal break as far as possible without hurting your throat 3. Exaggerate your mouth shape (embouchure?) as if you're trying to dislocate your jawbone

About the number of tatas in the title versus the lyrics. It is subtle, but the way they sing the lyric, they slow down the last couple syllables, as if they are actually singing the song title followed by ta-ta. Ratatata-ta-ta. Great collaboration by the way. Absolute joy to my old ears.

In an interview, Babymetal stated that Momoko/Momometal will be using her "Fangs" and doing more growls as a new facet to their music. Something that they were previously unable to do. So, it looks like you nailed it. Momometal also recently did her version of Headbanger where she sings lead and she does growl, although her voice is higher than Su-Metal. Momometal's growl is pretty deep. There is also a Moametal version of Headbanger, and she has a slightly deeper voice than Su-Metal and is quite beautiful too.

So I had once heard or read a long time ago (more than a decade) that in Japan they have classes in school where they teach the kids English and that it was a required class. I am not at all sure if it’s true but it would explain why English comes so naturally to a lot of Japanese singers.
@Fishbone88916 ай бұрын
@@samanthaleo2590 That's 100% true, same with Korea, a lot of these future idols, which is the Baby Metal people like Su, are trained to sing in English at an early age. The U.S. is one of the only major countries who doesn't teach multiple languages at an early age

@Wagoo6 ай бұрын
@@samanthaleo2590 while this is true, it's not really the advantage it should be. English is pretty poorly taught in Japan, which is why a lot of westerners go over there for temporary teaching positions so the class can get more exposure to English being spoken by a native Japanese already has tons of words imported into it from English. They're written in a special alphabet called katakana. It's the same as the regular Japanese sounds, but written with different characters, so it's easy to spot an import word in text But for example "table" when written in Japanese turns into TE-BURU (テーブル)which back in English sounds more like "tay buh roo" "hot dog" becomes "HOTTO DOGGU" (ホットドッグ)as that's the closest you can get to the original sound with the Japanese letter system. Basically it would seem like every sound has to end with a vowel, with 'n' being the exception So they have a lot of English vocabulary in store.. but the sentence structures are also completely different in Japanese. It uses a particle based system. I think the only other language to use a similar system is Turkish. So learning English grammar is an issue.. then English itself is also pretty terrible as far as pronunciation goes.. with not much consistency when you see a word written how it may be pronounced by a native speaker (Japanese is extremely consistent there) The Japanese 'R' sound is also different to the English one. It's a mix between an 'L' and an 'R'.. imagine you are rolling your 'R' and it'll be closer. Basically you put your tongue behind your top front teeth on the gum in the position it would be an for an 'L' - but you say an 'R' So early on you'd see SU-METAL running into similar issues when speaking English - covering Judas Priest's Painkiller she would say "Painkira" at first, as imported to Japanese it'd be "pa" "i" "n" "ki" "ra" sounds. But she did indeed master this and later performances she was singing "painkiller" in a much more native English way So yeah.. BABYMETAL's English skills are much better than they used to be! They sing English in their songs beautifully these days. I think the age we live in where it's easy to be exposed to the language through youtube and so on helps a lot too (TV/movies didn't help much in the past, as there's a lot of dubbing in Japan.. a bit like Germany and their love of the dub) Cheers 🦊
