Who told you that IIT are famous for architecture? I am yet to hear it from any architect. They may be famous, but for Technology, not architecture. I hope you understand the fundamental difference between the 2.

I have mentioned other colleges too and I very well understand the difference between the two, IITs are still the best institutes when it comes to opportunities, Recognition and even job opportunities even the grants for govt projects are given to IIT, I would suggest you to speak to faculties of IIT or some Alumni.
