I just want to point out that as it stands, the Miyoo Mini is in fact a more powerful device. There are rumours of unlocking the GPU potential of the RG35XX but at this point it JUST manages to render everything well.

I like the RG35XX, but I need a joy stick. the D pad is fine for most retro games, but when you get to PS and some GBA games that require diagonal the stick is nice to have it is also great for racing games and fighting games.

In defence of v90, even though it is low quality it has one good thing about it and it's a form factor that makes it one of the most portable handheld available today. I hope anbernic will make some kind of gba sp clone eventually. Edit: looking forward for that garlic os video. It really needs a better manual than that readme file made by devs.

Thanks for the review. Was looking for a miyoo but it was always out of stock or way overpriced with scalpers. Then was between 353v and 280v. I don't really need the extra juice of the 353v and then saw this 35xx cheaper than the 280v and liked the form factor and screen more so decided to order this one.

At this point I don’t recommend GarlicOS unless you enjoy using new software that’s under development. The stock firmware is a lot better than people are saying especially for beginners. However if you like tinkering, GaricOS will eventually be the best firmware for the RG35XX

I feel like you could 3D print replacement shoulders so the L1/R1 buttons are more recessed without losing the paddle slope, as there's plenty of space between the button and case for it.

I recently sold my RG351P and I'm currently waiting for a RG35XX to arrive. I figured since I only played GBA games on the 351 (tried PSP but it's a bit too weak), I don't need the extra power. I never used the analog sticks so they only got in the way. Also the bezels around the screen on the 35XX are much nicer and the fact it's shaped like an OG Gameboy makes it look more interesting. Yes, I know, 351 has a closer shape to a GBA, but 35XX looks much cooler imo.

@@adinwalls The screen is indeed better, the colors are much more vibrant, but boy, does it hurt to hold! Especially when you need to keep your fingers on the bumpers for longer periods. I ended up going back to RG351P, it's so much more comfy to hold.

Hey thank you. I like vertical handhelds for the nostalgia however nothing beats the ergonomics of a horizontal handheld. I’m aiming towards the new version of the RG552 if that even materialises 😊 but for short gameplay the vertical setup is fine. I never play for longer than an how and I’ve never had hand strain.

Yes you will lose all that if you update to Garlic. If you are happy with the stock then just use it. garlic is just a nicer user experience.

Just to clarify. You won’t lose your Roms. You just need to back them up. But as far as I know the stock OS save states won’t carry over.

GarlicOS for the RG35XX has a pretty good sleep and wake system. But I find the Android devices are best for this. For a nice budget Android I recommend the Anbernic RG353P and for a higher end option I recommend the RG405M or the Retroid Pocket 3+

The pixel density on the RG351V and RG35XX should be exactly the same as they are both 3.5 inch 640 x 480. The Miyoo Mini actually has the best pixel density as it is also 640 x 480 but only 2.8 inches. The RG351V appears to have better contrast and slightly better saturation. The RG35XX looks like it has the brightness too high. All still good screens though.

Hi there. No definitely not, the RG35XX is a fair bit more powerful. The RAM is a bit low but it has a dedicated GPU which makes up for it.

All you need to do is add your Roms to the external SD card into the correct rom folder (GBA). And, no, you don’t need OnionOS to do this.

I'm planning to buy this specifically to play PS 1 games because some of my favorite games are a bit laggy on the Miyoo mini and in my opinion the screen is a bit too small to play ps1. The gray color makes me nostalgic when playing Playstation 1

I’m not sure if it’s the same as the RG353V (I don’t have one yet) but the reason it looks washed out is due to the white pcb underneath. The purple is really growing on me and I really like it now. It’s definitely more playable than the Miyoo Mini but not as pocketable.

I have a few questions, the Anbernic RG35xx has two SD card slots, can both of them be used to store games? and what is the maximum size of each sd card in each sd card slot? Is it okay to use the default SD card to store games?

I would recommend replacing the card immediately by flashing the new firmware to a new card. If you want to just use one card, maybe get a 128gb and enlarge the ROMS partition. However an external card is also optional - simply format it to Fat32 and create the same file structure as the stock ROMs partition. I’m not sure on the maximum card size.

On the vendor listing I ordered from they offered several options from a single 16gb card to a 64+128 combo. So I think it can be assumed you can store games on the system card if using a single card and the second is just an additional ROM storage and the allowed size to be at least up to 128gb. And as the video uploader says it is recommended to clone and replace the included cards, the Chinese usually grab the very cheapest cards with horrible r/w speeds so it is better to copy to a more reputable card of your choice

After endless research, this is the video that allowed me to settle on the Anbernic RG35XX to replace my current emulating console (PSP 1000). The price difference between the RG35XX and Miyoos consoles is too steep here to even consider it a worthy opponent in the same price bracket (+/- ~ 70 euro difference). I am not surprised the RG35XX is less powerful than the Miyoo Mini - luckily Garlic OS gives us a nice option to overclock the system to run SNES and PS1 games better. Overall? Very excited for the arrival of my new travel buddy!

I wonder if dreamcast emulation is possible on this.I think 1.6 ghz is more or less enough, not sure about ram and gpu though. Also not all dc games used analog stick so about 30% of games could be at least playable. Or maybe it's just a wishful thinking idk

Correct. However if the card already has partitions you will need to remove them in MiniTool Partition Wizard and format it.

Hey there is doesn’t matter what letter the drives have, this will change from device to device. You might need to enlarge the Roms partition with a partitioning tool.

Hey there, I’m not 100% sure what your problem is unfortunately.

Some partitions have Linux filesystem so windows can't open them, it will ask to format them but don't do it. If you have extra unallocated space on the card use a partition manager (ex. DiskGenius is free) to expand the Roms partition and give it all that space.

Sometimes on windows I have to use the default disk utility (not sure of the exact name) right click on the drive and manually set a drive letter for the partition to appear in the browser.

Of course! At the moment I recommend that you stick with the updated stock firmware. I think Garlic OS will be 100% by the end of the month or mid Feb.

Hi there. Stock firmware offers the nice UI and a RetroArch system which allows you to set scaling per game or per system. Performance is improving everyday, I think by mid Jan it should have better performance than stock.

I keep hearing people brag about the mini being able to be played with one had and I just do get it. What games are u playing that that is worth it? Personally I prefer the size, resolution, and ergonomics of the ayn Odin. Throwing a case in a bag with me is way more worth it than having a really uncomfortable toy in my pocket. That being said I did order two 35xx for gifts for friends that are really new to emu handhelds and I will pre load it with onion os and games before hand.

I only got this yesterday because of the positive feedbacks of reviewers like Adin but if you are more on retro fighting games I don't recommend RG35XX and should go for vertical retro consoles instead.

I don’t think the upgrade is worth it. The RG35XX is definitely better in many ways but the RG280V is still a great device.

@@adinwalls have you ever tried a RG300? im disabled and have metal in my hand, so the v90 is the best device for me. Out of the box, without custom firmware it works amazing!! I've found for the v90 the only time i couldnt use PS1 games was when i had used custom firmware. I ordered the RG300 in hopes of having a try within the RG series, and because i was told the size might be okay with the hand issues that i have. so im hoping that it will work out okay. I just didnt know the difference really, i know they both are Abernic devices. I appreciate your reply! LOVE your videos and have subbed

Okay so do you think a vertical device is the way to go for you? I haven’t used the RG300 but it’s somewhere between the RG351V and the V90 in size. I am guessing that analog sticks aren’t going to be great for you? Most of these devices need a little tweaking. Let me know how it goes with the rg300.

These sizes are perfect for me to hold, and yes it much better using d-pad than analog, even though i really wish i could, because i miss out on alot of games, its just the pain and limitation of bending that gets and restricts me. I get plenty of likes on my videos and I always see a like and dislike button on my vids so I am not sure what the issue is there

Just double checked. Likes and dislikes are there. I had to take some action against some trolling and dislike bots a few years back. Maybe KZbin thinks you’re a bot?
