Great test drives guys. I'm a company car driver and in the UK emissions plays a major part of the choice for tax reasons. I've had a CX-5 for nearly three years and passed 120,000 miles recently. I'm a big Mazda fan having previously had two Mazda 6's but in March 2016 I will become a Kadjar driver. I will be going against your advice though and getting the 1.5 diesel model for the lower emissions of 103 g/km. I've loved having the CX-5 but it is the older trim than the one you tested. I will be getting the Kadjar Signature Nav. I'll give you my opinion when I've driven it for a while.

could you tell me hows the kadjar?
@petergeorge90808 жыл бұрын
I do like my Kadjar and from a driver's perspective it's a very nice car with lots of features. However the boot area is far smaller than I was used to with the CX-5. That's not to say it's small; it's still bigger than most saloons out there, but it doesn't compare in size to the Mazda. I'm finding the handling a bit disappointing. There seems to be a lot of roll and that's down to suspension and tyre profile. The Mazda was the bigger car but drove like a small car, gripping the road very well. You know you're in a large car with the Kadjar, which lurches around bends when the boot is loaded. That would be my main gripe.
@petergeorge90808 жыл бұрын
Hi there. I promised to come back with my views on the Renault Kadjar when I'd had it for a while, so here goes. Firstly the model I have is a top range Signature Nav but with the smaller 1.5 diesel engine. Being used to the 2.2 CX-5 I thought I would miss the extra power, but to be honest, I've barely noticed it apart from on hills. Some reports have said the 1.5 unit is noisy but I've found it no noisier than my CX-5 was. Handling is OK, but there's a bit more roll on the Kadjar and this is probably down to the softer suspension set-up it has. The panoramic sunroof is good for vision but it's not what I would call a real sunroof, as it cannot be opened! I am having trouble setting up texts and emails on the display and Renault have told me it's an issue with some iPhones! I'm not so sure about that one. The amount of variations you can make to the colour and style of the dashboard is quite extensive. The boot space is much smaller than the Mazda. I know these things are measured in litres or cc's, but in practical terms some larger items are a very tight fit compared to the CX-5. My wife's mobility scooter fits easily in the Mazda with room for shopping but just - and I mean just fits in the Kadjar. The lane control and blind spot warning mirrors are a handy feature. Fuel consumption is nowhere near the figure of around 71 mpg given by Renault. My boot is often filled with tools and other bits so this all adds weight, but I am getting around 56 - 57 mpg. Better than the Mazda, where I got around 52 mpg and better than another review I saw which claimed just 49 mpg. I really loved my Mazda CX-5, which I had for three years and 120,000 miles, but the Kadjar is proving to be a decent car and my only real complaint is the smaller boot area. I will hit around 40,000 miles each year, so maybe some other issues will come up but so far, so good.

Hi Peter, I would like to ask how is it going now with your Kadjar ? I have ordered mine today.
@petergeorge90808 жыл бұрын
Hi Waleed, I won't lie to you, I prefer my old Mazda CX-5 in many ways. This is not to say the Kadjar is bad, just that I found the Mazda better. It handles better, steers better, the gearbox is better. The Mazda also has a much bigger boot and far better acceleration. The Kadjar is more economical and has more features, as I have a Signature Nav. Having said that some of the features don't work all the time and in four months Renault have still not fixed them all, despite giving me a firmware update. It's still a good car though, but I was comparing it to the Mazda, which is an exceptional vehicle.

I actually liked the Kadjar the most. While the Mazda does seem to have a higher quality interior, it is much less functional in the boot and has less space. I would have to see how both drove but I got a better feeling for the Renault in this review than for the Mazda (maybe my expectations for the Mazda were higher as well).
@petergeorge90808 жыл бұрын
This is completely incorrect! The Mazda has a far, far larger boot and is more practical. The Renault Kadjar is better equipped inside and looks better than the rather drab CX-5 interior. I had the CX-5 and I now have the Kadjar, so I should know.

Same here, CX-5 is my first choice. Although, the Renault's look is growing on me since your last video. Hyundai, like its Japanese competitors, have done an excellent job in making a car that fits many categories but is an expert at none. I like how you mix up the reviewers, with your final review at the end. Gets a different perspective which I think is appreciated by buyers.

Comparing prices and quality I think Kadjar is the best deal. I have tested 1.5 dci and is completely fine to drive and fuel consumption is impressively low. Interior and exterior are for me better designed than at the competitors.
@petergeorge90808 жыл бұрын
Cannot agree. I had the CX-5 and I now have the Kadjar. I agree about fuel consumption but that's about it. Interior, ride comfort, size and quality are all the Mazda. More worryingly, many features of my Signature Nav Kadjar (top of the range) either don't work or only work when they feel like it. Renault's answer is always the same - firmware upgrade coming soon. I will never get another Renault.
@dejanjeremic44108 жыл бұрын
Actually, I gave up of Kadjar and bought Tucson 1.7crdi premium 6 months ago (13 500km so far). Reading your comment it seems that was the right decision. At that time, main reason was incredibly long delivery time for Kadjar (this is small market and they told me I should wait for more than three months). Also, the price for Tucson was lower for nearly 2000 EUR for similar equipment. I'm very satisfied with Tucson and really appreciate lot of comfort inside including back seats and good driving characteristics. Only minus is maybe fuel consumption which is noticeably higher then stated. Overall, I think I have made a good decision.

I have the Kadjar Sig Nav 1.2 TCE and very pleased with it.... Quiet, comfortable, safe handling.....Looks fantastic in the metallic red (which I have) but must admit other colours look bland to me. I looked at the CX5 but apart from the practicality, it didn't feel special to me inside. For the price, I wasn't expecting Audi-like quality inside the Kadjar, but pretty good in my opinion and I like the simplicity of the layout. Infotainment and sat nav easy to use as well..... CX5 with equivalent spec was quite a bit more money as well, so although a good car, it swung my opinion even more.

I have 1 problem with the Tucson: the quality of the materials. It's fabric seats feel really bad, the plastics are hard and they feel like they belong to the Kadjar. Or something even cheaper. Due to the bad fabric seats, you need to step up a trim level for leather and seat cooling, so overall it's designed to be more expensive than the base price would suggest.
@autogefuehl9 жыл бұрын
+ast5515 interesting feedback, thanks!
@ast55159 жыл бұрын
***** An important factor is that in my country, cars in this price range are considered to be very much premium, because we don't make much money. And also the trim levels are usually different here, so it might not be the same for every country.

Hey there, Any feedback from your qashqai please?
@gvaley9 жыл бұрын
There is no clear winner between the Mazda and the Hyundai. I recently test-drove them (highest trim levels, full options) and they both had their strong and week sides. The Mazda didn't have electric tailgate and its trunk was a bit smaller. On the other hand it had 40:20:40 foldable rear seat (which is BIG for me), LED bending headlights, adaptive cruise control and I could pick a more powerful engine (the petrol). The Huyndai had better suspension and I think a better feeling at the wheel (only slightly though), but had noisier, less powerful top engine, the transmission was worst (both had 6-gear torque-converter autos) and most importantly, it had the ground clearance of a sedan (~3cm less that the Mazda). And after the guy at Huyndai made me a MASSIVE 5000 euro discount to 39,500 euro, it was still substantially more expensive than the Mazda at 35,000 (with a 2000 euro discount and they threw in a set of winter tyres with 17'' wheels). I ended up ordering the Mazda. @Autogefuehl: Test ground clearance on crossovers because apparently there are huge differences.

+gvaley thanks for the interesting feedback !
@gvaley9 жыл бұрын
+gvaley There are 2 more things worth mentioning: 1. The Mazda has a substantially better-sounding audio system. 2. The Hyundai's dashboard looks dreadfully cheep. Only time will tell if the build is sturdy, but as far as first impression is concerned, I cannot reward it more than 5/10.

DESIGN I agree on the better interior of the Mazda but outside it doesn't catch the eyes and seems boring. Overall the Hyundai Tucson has a more agressive and state-of-the-art design, more practical and ready to go feeling. For other features they look similar although most of the test drive videos on youtube say that Hyundai Tucson is better.

hi, excellent in deep review, we love your presentations her in Norway. I do have one comment that I would like to bring to your attention. The camera. Although having very stable hands when reviewing the cabin it should be done from the back seat. The interview with you while driving is terrible, half a face, head cutting etc etc. why not use go-pro cameras mounted on the front window and sides then add footage of the parts you talk about and edit it on a PC later?. choosing as they call it "one take" reduce the quality of this video which could only describe as professional otherwise. I am sure you stop the camera and take several takes of the presentation and edit it out latter, well the same should we done with the car footage.

For price, I think yes it is. Tucson is more expensive, and if you have more budget and can aspire for a better car, CX-5 is better option than Hyundai. Worst for the Tucson is the engines range, a poor 1.6 petrol NA, and a very expensive turbo. A not very refined diesel engines, and an interior with lot of rigid plastics and too much conventional, it seems designed in 2006. I think Renault has better engines in an afordable range of price, a better interior design and materials and better price. Mazda CX5 is the best of all, but is always more expensive, it hasn't a low range engines as Kadjar or Tucson, cause is only suitable for a high budget.

Overall I agree that CX5 offers the highest quality and best driving experience among the three cars. However, before purchasing, I've tested the CX5 and the Mazda 6 for a week / 1500 km each and I have to admit that the CX5 made me disappointed. However the engine has almost no noise (just like in the Mazda6), the rolling wheels are to loud and harsh, you always hear the wind noise and it's disturbing at highway speed (compared to a Ford S-Max Mazda has 5 years handicap). The mostly disturbing thing is the suspension, which is so firm, so stiff, that combined with these less cushioned seats on bumpy road you feel each small whole on your spine. And small things, like always shaking in- and outside mirrors (the dealer said they always implement a sponge in the mirror house and the same for the hood, which is waiving at high speed like the ocean around Hawaii). Not to mention you always hear the sound of the relay from the trunk when you use the direction indicator or you step on the brake to use the gearbox, or you have to push the button on the front door, step back to the back door open it for your children, so it's not a real keyless go, no coming home function, so you in dark garage you always poke for the door opening button ( Renault's keyless function is much better), and there is no button on the back doors. It is a good, but very unbalanced car, with superior engine and transmission, overall high quality materials, nice Kodo shape (RAV4? ha-ha), but with unacceptable suspension and some disturbing things (just heated, no cooled seats etc.)
