And to think I was not clicking on the videos because I thought they were in German! Very nice review Thomas: your style is very refreshing in the business of car review videos. Also, finally someone who doesn't whine when a car doesn't have leather seats :-D Seriously considering a CX-5: I did a test drive of the 2.0 4WD petrol and your description of the pleasant impression the car gives right away when driving it felt so familiar! I really liked the feel.

Hi, great review Thomas. I enjoy watching these and appreciate the details. I ordered this car a month ago and was hoping that you would recommend the face lifted cx5. And luckily you did. :) we get the 2.5 L engine in Norway. And it is superb! Keep up the good work. Hi there, again a great review Thomas, as we expected! The thing I love about these reviews is that you give practical advice but also let your heart speak when you talk about cars! And indeed the details as you said are very important, these are small things but you will notice them quite often. The Mazdz is a nice and good car, the quality has improved alot but ofcourse as you mentionned there are some little things like the steering wheel, haha ;) But I think thats its a good choice when you buy this car! And to end I just wanted to say, here in Belgium we say 'De koffer' so almost the same as 'Kofferraum' in Germany ;) Keep up the good work Thomas/Autogefühl! This indeed my number one right now!

Nice review! Enjoyed it! Aldo I would prefere if you could tell us about AC powering sources in future reviews, cause Mazda has on some models systems that have separate powering for AC thus enabling use of AC without losing engine power... 12:50, nice detailing! Keep up the good work. :)

Loved your review and just bought one yesterday! You'll be pleased to know the Mazda people must be watching as well--the 2016.5 doesn't have the sharp bit on the back of the steering wheel and the glove box must have a dampener as it now opens slowly and elegantly. Thanks to you I checked! :-) Doors thunk too! Thanks again--

+Autogefühl Can I ask... Is this the Soul Red colour? It looks amazing! They didn't have this colour in the dealership when I visited today :-( I'm considering 'upsizing' my car again, and have now narrowed it down from four options to this 2015 CX5 Sport Nav (the range topper trim in UK), or the new 2015 Hyundai Tucson Premium SE (again range topper). Have now test-driven both and the Mazda feels much better to drive and connected to the road, but the Tucson has more kit included as standard (here in the UK anyway). Although I loved the CX5 electronic parking brake (non handbrake) in the UK. Very similar to my Nissan QQ.

Your a heck of a reviewer Autogefuhl (that's a compliment)!! I would of guessed that no one would of found that sharp edge behind the steering wheel, but I did, lol I actually found it 10 hrs after owning the CX-5 and 7 of those hours I was sleeping. I've only had it 13 hrs now and love it. You also explained the engine growl perfectly!! But, why hasn't anyone talked about the Zoom/Boost/Power/Yehaa button under the gas pedal?? I love this button....you basically put your foot on the gas pedal and if you need a boost/pick-up/quick acceleration then you floor it until you feel the micro-switch/click-switch click on..... and zoom off you go and the engine growls and tachometer goes into the red zone and wham your off like "Back to the Future" movie! Another cool thing is watching the tach. go up and down as your in boost is kicking in & out. One thing I don't like is that the front area has little storage so you have to rely on the storage pockets in the door and the little storage hole near the left knee has no door or drawer.

G'day, Thomas, thanks for an excellent review! I have lost count of how many others on the CX-5 (and Mazda3) I have watched over the past few months, but this was easily the best and most useful for a prospective customer. Unfortunately, many others are, um, too American with little attention to detail, and there are not too many Aussie ones available for the current model. I actually ordered my 2016 CX-5 Maxx Sport 2.5L auto (the next trim level up from the base model in Australia) with safety pack last week after much research, consideration and scrutinising each model at the dealership. If I'd come across your review earlier, I think the decision would have been easier, but still glad to have seen it now as it validates a lot of my assessment. The greater spaciousness of the cabin and boot ultimately cinched it for me (I'm 1.88m), even though the Mazda3 SP25 is a bit more zippy being a lighter car and of course less expensive. Cheers, mate!

Great detailed review, just discovered your channel. Most cx5 test rides are in a diesel. Although in the UK we only get the 2l petrol or the diesels. I prefer the petrol for peaceful tick over. I might get this 2016 version rather than the newer model as I can get a top spec 2nd hand one for 15k ish with low miles.

Great review and great car. I' ve been driving it for year and a half, and it's great. I also prefer the pre facelift front grill :) I'm driving 2.2 l diesel with 175 ps (420 Nm), manual gearbox (I insisted on it since it's one of the best in the market by my opinion) and I can highly recommend this car to anybody who is thinking of buying one. I've tested several competitors, I've red a lot of tests on the internet and I think it's best buy SUV. Even today I would buy it again because I don't see better car (we will see new Tiguan). Great drive (I had chance to drive it on race track it's very well balanced car, one of the sportiest compact SUV's), good fuel consumption (7,4 l/100km real average consumption, with AC on, sporty drive style, around 60-70% of driving is in city), enough space and compact length for city use. Also, good value for money. I've paid my car 35000 Eur, for top trim level (price for Serbia), and it has lot of equipment as standard (blind spot system, lane keep assist, auto high beam, front lights that follow corners, city safety auto braking, leather seats, Navigation system, rear camera, BOSE sound system). You don't have to pay extra for all of that as in some competitors (VW, Ford...). AWD system also pretty good (you can have a lot fun with it in snow :D). And just look at this design, definitely the best looking SUV's today (by my opinion).

Well done Thomas ! I'm a current owner of a 2014 Mazda CX-5, and am very pleased with the styling and reliability of this SUV. Nearing 30,000 miles and no problems to report with the 2.5L 184 HP engine included with the top Grand Touring trim level. Fuel economy is exceptional ! Currently averaging 30 MPG on the motorway with regular grade fuel here in the U.S. I think the subtle design changes in the 2016 model are desirable. The LEDs give it an even more sporty appearance at night, and the larger , more powerful engine sounds great. Also, small details like the sharp edge on the steering wheel are important to mention. I had a similar issue with the steering wheel on a previous Volvo XC-90. Sharp edges along the steering wheel trim felt uncomfortable and cheap. I plan on downsizing to the 2016 CX-3 as soon as it becomes available this fall in the US. Overall, very pleased with the Mazda brand. Thanks again for another outstanding review !

Great review and finally someone to say loud how great Mazdas petrol engines are, especially the bigger. 2.5L. It doesn't have a bloody turbo or more turbos, very quiet and refined, simple and cheap to maintain, and when pushed hard gives beatifull sound from exhaus. And the consumption is maybe only 1 liter more than bigger diesel engine but it has better performance and less headache in a long run. I am planning to buy used CX5 or Mazda 6 with this 2.5L engine. The only problem is that these engines in Europe are very rare and difficult to find...

Thanks Thomas! Yet another top-notch review. The cx-5 styling both interior & exterior is very nice. The interior dash has a German simplistic styling which is my favourite. Very easy on the eyes. White leather? Looks nice but not for long. In Canada we have both the 2.0 & 2.5 litre engines available FYI. I agree with you re normally aspirated vs turbo engines. I much prefer my n/a bimmer to my wife's turbo when driving back to back. Great review and attention to detail as usually. In my opinion it's really important to point out things like the sharp edges on the steering wheel, as it can get very irritating on day to day basis and affect the appeal of an otherwise nice vehicle. Touch points like that should not be overlooked by the manufacturers. You have also mentioned the thin, light door panels, which causes some concern about the longevity of the car. I live in a northern part of Europe and Mazdas don't last long here. I am not so sure about the cars of the newest generation, but the previous iteration of their fleet would show severe rust after just 3 years of use. The whole car would rust out in 5 to 7 years time. What is even worse that the dealers often refuse to address the corrosion under warranty and leave the owners with a helplessly rusted car that is still relatively new. This tinny, thin metal you find on the car in the review does not give much hope that things have improved, however it would be interesting to know how Mazda cars are holding up in Germany.

Povilas Svedas Interesting feedback, thanks! Oh wow, that sounds really bad. Lately, Mazda had good scorings in reliability. Maybe its the special conditions up in the North? You from sverige ?

***** I'm from Lithuania. To be fair, we tend to use quite a bit of salt for the roads during winter, however no other brand suffers even remotely as much as Mazda does. It has really hurt the company's image and as a result of this, examples of their current line of vehicles are pretty rare. As you said the drive train and the rest of the technical systems are bulletproof, it's the body that gives out way too quickly and puts buyers off. After seeing those cars I would be hard pressed to purchase one of their products, which is a shame since Mazda's are nice cars.

CX-5 seems to be the most fun to drive - but all things put on hold till new Tiguan arrives! Great engine. Infotainment screen looks good in a built into the dash setting instead of sticking ON dashboard like even in some upscale makes. Cleaver rear setback system but too bad area is still not real flat floor. I pay special attention to the AWD system-- what amount of transfer front to rear and side to side-- testing on inclines, uneven roads, etc. Tucson and Tiguan use Magna supplier for example but don't know about what system is used in the Mazda. Seeing the GPS work and the iPhone integration. Trunk/Boot or ? (love those German terms)

wow, what a nice sounding engine! And at 25:43 - this is exactly the sound of my 1.4 TSI. :D :D I have to say, I don't like it. Luckily when under load at higher speeds, it sounds more like a (quieter) diesel. BTW. great review, as usual!

Best reviewer out there! Attention to detail :) We also love your german accent. Love it. Ok so I'm looking to buy a family car right now. Quality, comfort, quiteness and fun is important. I have been looking at Golf alltrack, cx5,, tiguan, bmw 320 kombi. What I like Golf, versitile, fun, pretty quiet, not the best design but still good looking ok resale value 25k cx 5, little bit plasticy, noisy, good looking and roomy bad resale, 30k bmw 320 good looking, fun, not so roomy, good quality, good noise, good resale, 35k tiguan 2017, same as cx 5 but perhaps better quality. 36k So what do you think? What is the best buy?

Hi Thomas/Autogefühl, first of all I must say your car reviews are awesome. I'm from Barcelona by the way, this means I've got some kind of "Autogefühl für kleine Fahrzeuge" (z.B. Mazda 2 2016), but on the other hand I'm living in Mexico right now, where everybody else is driving these huge (old) pick ups & the like.. Could you please give me some advice, whether to go for the Mazda 2 2016 which is being built here in Mexico in their Mazda plant.. the Mazda CX 3 AWD which is far more expensive.., the Subaru Forester, the least expensive version which is also AWD, or the Mazda CX 5 2016 AWD the most expensive of these 4 cars.. ? Few things to keep in mind are: Mazda has got a good reputation here in Mexico, for reliability and tech. support/assistance.. whereas Subaru is relative new in the mex. market.. (Subaru includes a 5 year/100k km free of charge warranty by the way). Mazda 2 is good enough for everyday use and weekend trips.. but we're talking about Mexico, some off-road capabilities could come in handy here.. Does AWD CX3/5 make a difference ? Neither CX3 nor CX5 ground clearance comes close to subaru's 22 cm anyway.. (what do you guys think ?) Subaru's gotten issues, (buyers paranoia?) Is the Subaru Forester a better choice.. ? Budget wise I'd rather go for the Mazda 2.. Is there any other option which you'd think fits my needs better than these ones.. ? thanx so much and congrats for your "hervorragend" work and talent.

Ciro Aisa Hey! Love to hear that, thanks! Actually it is about the budget and the space you have available. I would go for the CX-5 in general as it is the best car imho. If you wanna spend less money, I'd go for the CX-3 because it already offers the high seating position. Didnt drive Subarus yes sorry!

***** ..Ja Thomas.. CX3 AWD looks gorgeous, indeed, but I'm concerned about its off-road limitations, due to its only average ground clearance height, besides you tested it, but only outside limits of Barcelona, been there too, almost same place, driving an average VW Polo.. I can't test drive it now, 'coz the model isn't in Mex. yet. Any thoughts on its off road capabilities/limitations ? In catalan please, haha !

Great review thomas but i dont agree with you on the engine.A2.5 in today economy is too thirsty.I know what you said about turbos but in todays world and specially with a Mazda, top reliability, that is not a problem. The 2.2 diesel is the best for me 175 bhp and over 420 nms of torque.that is a game changer.so i now own a late 2015 imported from japan and it is the best car for the money i have ever had.The one that came very close to it was, indeed, the vw tiquan.if you spec a tiquan with the extras a cx5 has,its costs a lot more.so,in my humble opinion,if you want european, get the vw if you want other get the cx5.

Yes it is. I have mazda 3 2015 full trim model in 7000km i have 20 damages from rock chips. Paint dosent have any protection on outside road condition. In Croatia onwners gather (20 and our number is getting bigger by the day) who has the same problem. We have facebook page "mazda 3 2014 nekvalitetan lak" and also we have been on national tv with this problem. We have contacted owners in Usa and they have even more problems with paint such as rust on welding spota along with poor quality of paint on outside condition. The plan is to massivly strike mazda with this problem in the same time. So they can finally see that is not our fault.
