That’s a great bonus on the gold card, but with the family language, you would want to get the green first. Do you think the green is worth the 40,000 points for the SUB?
@96hearts80

They nerfed the green card recently taking away the lounge buddy credit and the sub on it isn’t too good. Personally I’d skip over it. But idk that’s just me

@Daniel_Braun Күн бұрын
Yeah personally I agree with that other comment that the Green card isn't really worth it. If you really want that 40K SUB and then cancel after 1 year then that's fine - but I don't think it's worth the hassle of that because it's a card that's mostly irrelevant now

HI Daniel! New time viewer but thanks to you and some research spanning from cards, HYSA and money tracking I've affectively created my own "What's in my wallet" I was wondering if you wouldn't mind rating set up... 1) Chase freedom unlimited for Dining and takeout and all transactions since it gets 1.5 back ... 2) AMEX blue cash prefer for supermarkets and Gas... 3) BILT card for my rent// I'm not a super heavy spender but this setup works for my biggest categories, I really want the Chase sapphire reserved but was turned down since I have to may cards out at the moment but plan on going to them in person to hopefully get approved, If I'm able too then this would allow me to use those points more affectively for travel and more, I'm still on the fence for the AMEX Gold card but would like your opinion there. Keep up the work man and thank you again! I swear I think in one day I watched over 9hrs of your videos from cards and more and I can greatly say that you have helped educate me and set me up in a better spot than before
@Daniel_Braun
@Daniel_Braun Күн бұрын
Hey Christian - first of all thank you so much for watching all of that content from my channel! 9 hours is a lot of time to hear me talking, so thanks for putting up with that 😂 In all seriousness though, that's a great setup for optimizing your spending though! Once you get a Sapphire card then that is going to help you get more value from those Chase points you're earning. I'd say to look into possibly adding the Freedom Flex as well for more Chase points. For the Amex Gold, I honestly think it's a good card but only for certain people based on the value they might get out of the annual credits to offset the cost of the annual fee. If you don't get value from the credits, then getting the Citi Strata Premier or Capital One SavorOne might be the better option. But if you get enough value from the credits on the Gold, then the 4x on dining and groceries is tough to beat! Plus to sign up bonus can be great as well, so you could always get the card for a year with a good bonus and see how it is

If I'm not at 5/24 yet with Chase, are the Citi Strata Premier or Am Ex offers worth it, or in your opinion, would it be better to wait?
@Daniel_Braun

Personally I'd first get whatever Chase cards are valuable to you while under 5/24 - then after that go for other cards like Citi and Amex. Best to maximize value for Chase to lock that in under 5/24 and then move on.

I was actually just about to apply for the sapphire preferred. I probably won’t get the 4k spending bonus on the preferred but i definitely want the $300 travel credit. I for sure travel once a year to go home for the holidays and possibly twice a year, so using it for the 25% extra points or moving it to united seems really nice for me. I can hoard my points all year and then use them for my trip home. I will also use the $50 hotel credit every year so it seems like a good deal. Wish me luck.

If you can, pay for your friends when you go out and have them pay you back that way you can rack up charges on your card. Also tell any family you have about it so they can help you reach that $4000 mark
@Daniel_Braun
@Daniel_Braun Күн бұрын
I would say to definitely try to find ways to hit that $4K spending in 3 months because it's a waste of an offer if you don't get those points! The $300 travel credit is fine, but 60K points is potentailly $750 to $1,200 in value or more. So yeah like that other comment said, try to pay for dinner with friends and have them Venmo you back or do other things like that to get the spend if you did end up applying or this offer. If you didn't apply yet, then maybe think about waiting to get the card if you're naturally spending $4k in 3 months in the future

@@Daniel_Braun My gf and I decided I’ll just buy everything during these 3 months and she’ll pay me back for everything she is buying. We also gotta pay for a short vacation next summer, and might even get our plane tickets for visiting home next year so that should help. I’m just not certain if the $300 credit counts against the 4k spending. I don’t think it does since I make the purchase and then get a statement credit, but if you know how it exactly works I’d appreciate the help! Thanks!

I have both the freedom unlimited and flex card and I’m looking at getting the sapphire preferred. How would you recommend spending the 4K needed to achieve the bonus?
@Daniel_Braun
@Daniel_Braun 2 күн бұрын
If $4K is a lot to spend in 3 months within your budget, then try to time the spend around a larger one time purchase. Paying rent is also an option, but will cost an extra 2-3% in fees - but can be worth it for the points! There's a few other ways that you can look around for ideas with over on Reddit as well

Hey Daniel, I've been hoarding points for a few years now and have been wondering - do rewards points depreciate with inflation? I assume yes to slme degree but curious if anyone has even tried to quantify that. The golden question being: In what timeframe should you try to use your points before you would be better off either investing that money just holding onto cash?
@Daniel_Braun
@Daniel_Braun Күн бұрын
To answer that about depreciation I'd say that yes they do depreciate, but depends on the points and miles you have. If you have points and miles with one specific program, then depreciation risk is great because you have no other option for where to redeem other than with that 1 hotel/airline. But if you have flexible bank points (Chase, Amex, Bilt, etc.) then you have many options for how to transfer and redeem - so if you program decreases, you can just ignore that program and look for better sweetspots with others. I'd say the best way to answer that other question is that there's no specific timeframe - the best policy to to "earn and burn" by not holding points for years at a time. Try to redeem within 1-2 years if you can - and if you don't travel enough to do that, then cash back may be the better option. The good news is that new sign up bonuses have also risen in value over the years which helps to fight against inevitable devaluation a little bit. So yeah no exact way to measure this, but just don't sit on points for 5+ years and try to use them or just go with cash back if hoarding is too much of an issue

So if I am not taking a trip soon, and I recently got a letter with an 80k points offer, you would recommend going with that over the current 60k + $300 offer?
@Daniel_Braun
@Daniel_Braun Күн бұрын
Personally I would take the 80K offer if you know how to consistently get 2 cents per point in value when redeeming the points. 80k points x 2CPP = $1,600 vs 60k x 2CPP = $1,200 + $300 credit = $1,500

60K Points + $300 travel credit vs higher SUB offer of 80K points? What is more worth it?
@thedman05
@thedman05 2 күн бұрын
I’d imagine the 80k points for someone with experience transferring points since you should be able to get at least 2 cpp for the redemption. The extra points would get more value, but yes that’s all assuming the right redemption.
@Daniel_Braun
@Daniel_Braun Күн бұрын
Personally I would take the 80K points because I know that I'm consistently getting 2 cents per point in Chase redemption value. So 80K points X 2 CPP = $1,600 value. But then 60K points x 2 CPP = $1,200 Value + $300 credit = $1,500. So the 80K offer wins based on math there

I’m about to enter the chase ecosystem very soon. There is an in-branch offer on the CFF and CFU for standard 200$ but also a 5x on gas and groceries for the first year. But I really want the CSP for the sign up bonus. What would be your best recommendation for which card to get first? I’ve been pre approved for all of them. Update: just went in branch and got the CFF 7k limit and secured the 5x back on gas and groceries! Next up, CSP 😎
@FilonisHat
@FilonisHat 2 күн бұрын
Advice from a random commenter: First, make sure you are eligible to enter the Chase ecosytem under the 5/24 rule. If you're planning to use the CSP points within the next 3-6 months on travel, then get CSP. If that's not your goal and you want to build a rapport with Chase, hop on to either of the other two, use it for all your gas and groceries to accumulate pts. and be on the lookout within a year for another boosted CSP offer (no guarantees, but this year alone we've had two CSP boosted offer seasons, back in spring and now this one).

I think that's great advice from that other comment! If you plan on getting the CSP with this offer for upcoming travel that you want to book relatively soon, then go for the CSP. Otherwise I would say that if you're seeing an in branch offer like that on the CFF and CFU, then go with those because those are some of the best on those cards and will help build relationship with Chase first. Then wait for the next offer on the CSP which historically has been around springtime for the past few years. Not guaranteed to continue in that trend, but I would probably take that path. I'll have to look into those CFF and CFU in branch offers because if those are widespread at many Chase branch locations then those are great ones that I would have mentioned in this video!

@@Daniel_Braun first off thank you for commenting, I see you reply on almost everyone’s comments and that is very professional and super helpful. I did call chase yesterday and they confirmed the in branch 5x offer on the freedom cards, but that may vary from branch to branch, but wouldn’t hurt to let people know the extra options they have if they have a local chase around them. Secondly, I did get the SavorOne about 2 months ago, would it be too soon to apply for another credit card this early? My score is 790 with 3 hard inquiries on my Experian which chase pulls from, only 2 of them being personal credit cards and another from a car loan. Generally 3-6 months is what I like to recommend, but depends on your strategy and where you're at on your credit card journey

Those current offers are fine - I wouldn't say they're anything special though. But good if you really prefer Hilton

@@Daniel_Braun I just realized there was a better sign up bonus last July after applying for the honors card 😭. I don’t normally at Hilton hotels but I thought why not since it has no annual fee plus I’m thinking to downgrade or cancel my Amex platinum.

It just so happens that the cards with the best offers are ones that I have haha. Theres a few slightly higher Delta and Hilton offers but nothing to get excited about in my opinion
