You could have bonemealed the kelp (it will also stop working automatically if the kelp cannot grow anymore), also you only needed to place kelp in 3 of the corners (and then every other block for a larger than 3x3 area). The water mechanics will then create sources in the remaining spots.

I typically dig out the two blocks in front of the soul sand one level lower, putting a wall or fence on the block next to the soul sand. That way they're constantly in water flow. Sometimes they'll still get a bit stuck on the edge of the soul sand but less than the ice I've noticed

That timelapse was superb. As a recommendation, instead of alternating platform layers with water, you should have two towers flooded at a time and then alternate towers. That way if you ever want to turn the farm off you just have to flood all four towers at once.
@nickwilliams8302
@nickwilliams8302 2 жыл бұрын
Good idea. But the water might make it hard to get into the levels. A better solution (IMHO) would be to have redstone lanterns next to the platforms. Light goes on, farm turns off. If Ren combined your solution with mine, however, he'd be able to clear an entire tower at a time if work needed to be done.

to make the farm more efficient and stop the creepers from getting stuck at the bottom of the bubble elevator, you can lower the last few blocks before the bubble elevator so they are one block below the soul sand, and then add a wall in the new lowered floor. this allows the water to flow over it while pushing the creepers up (acting like stairs) onto the soul sand

@jurianzwaan
@jurianzwaan 2 жыл бұрын
After doing some testing, Ashton's idea with a wall looks like a good option. However, while you get them further in the column, they get stuck under the glass blocks around the column. To solve that, you will need to use glass panes. I have tried using blue ice and the glass panes, but the creepers don't get enough momentum to push them far enough. Killing them at the bottom will solve this issue directly and will increase the efficiency of the farm.

@RenDog: 3_Thoughts... 1___A lever can be attached to the "Etho-Clock", to lock the farm in flood mode, if you need to turn the system off. 2___A better killing chamber would be to use the hoppers as a pipeline & direct the loot into a storage system. Above each hopper place Soul_Sand (not Soul_Soil!!!), & light up a ring of Soul_Fire. No need for either rails or hopper_minecarts. I believe this would reduce a lot of the lag issue. 3___By expanding the radius of the outside wall by 2-or-3 more blocks you can harvest spiders, & any other stray mobs. If you'd rather not change the radius, then just position yourself at a single spot above the fountain, where spiders can gather (but not reach you), & you can whack them as often as you like. It might be a good source of XP, string, & spider eyes.

@@ShaunCockerill but in the end you are limited by hopper transfer speeds so the minecart is just extra entity lag
@ShaunCockerill
@ShaunCockerill 2 жыл бұрын
I don't think a single minecart would cause too much of a difference when you have that many hoppers waiting for blocks. You could just layer a second row of hoppers over the first, and point them in a circle, although the minecart would be much more quicker than hoppers if they started getting bottlenecked. If you had enough chests fill up, you could get to the point where item lag becomes an issue, while the minecart would spread the items out quicker over more hoppers, theoretically storing items at N times hopper speed. Most normal people would just have a standard size killing chamber, with optional looting station. They'd probably still use a minecart to collect the drops, but with less hoppers, it would still be much more lag friendly. Then again, it wouldn't be quite so mega and Ren's design does look amazing.
@jordangreene7952
@jordangreene7952 2 жыл бұрын
@@JessiBear if the distribution of the creepers is not perfect eventually you get chests that fill up faster than other chest causing hundreds of gunpowder entities to sit on a filled chest causing more lag than a single minecart. If you want to improve e this build you have to decrease the amount of time a y given creeper remains alive as the faster a creeper stops using a mobcap slot the faster a new one spawns. This build definetly looks cool but has some fundamental flaws and the minecart is not one of them
@jurianzwaan
@jurianzwaan 2 жыл бұрын
@@JessiBear You aren't limited by hopper speed. The farm gives 2688 gunpowder per hour. A hopper can transfer 2.5 items per second. 2.5*3600=9000 items per hours per hopper. So all the items could be transferred through one hopper, so you could have all hoppers pointing in one storage silo without needing any minecarts.

A mob farms rates are directly related to how fast the mobs are removed from the world, freeing up the mob cap (either by being killed, or trasported to another dimention) even tho the bubble elevator going up to the killing chamber looks epic (and should deff stay, at lest for asthetic reasons), i would personaly place a kill chamber directly under each of the 4 spawning platforms, because right now the bubble elevator is just keeping the mobs in the world for longer than they need to, saying that, you should change the top killing chamber to be smaller, and killed by the player afking at it, so you can at least get the looting effect (which would be even better than what i suggested before)

An open fence gate works the same as a sign (completely non-solid), so stacking the signs wouldn't make a difference. Ice doesn't increase the speed enough unfortunately.

Rendog it's better to place scaffolding at the place where the water appears so that the observer doesn't trigger multiple times (since waterlogging and un- waterlogging are just single observer detection but normal water removal creates many updates)
@deeevinityy
@deeevinityy 2 жыл бұрын
I don't think that's an issue in this case because the signal is going down and the observers are detecting the dispensers getting triggered and not the water being placed

Thought you were bringing the creepers up to kill them with a looting sword...you could have just had the campfires at the bottom , and shot the gunpowder uptop to your storage room. I don't think you're near mob cap , so it wouldnt increase your rates , but the creepers lifespan would be shorter....so a smidgen less lag

Fact about creeper farm: It's not as efficient as it could be because the creepers hang around in the mob cap for a long time. Most good farms kill the creepers below and send the items upwards. Better farms use cats because the creepers move faster when scared by cats than water. Still awesome design though!
@thespacedingoking

even better farms would immediately send the creepers to an unloaded nether chunk to remove them from the mobcap entirely.
@darshasher

@@thespacedingoking just realised that sending them to the nether and theh killing them using looting 3 and sweeping edge at a armour stand would be like the real best creeper farm

It would be rather unusual, but for the bubblevator, it would be interesting if the creepers dropped 3 or so blocks right before the vator and behind the ledge they fell off is a cat that scares them into the water.

hey Ren! to make the farm more efficient by preventing the creepers from getting stuck you can change the block below them by blue ice ( blue ice is better than regular and packed ice at gliding mobs and entities ).

Use this video to help you with the mob elevator getting them past that one block kzbin.info/www/bejne/sGqnnI17j6-SmJo, the workaround for your elevator will be the getting them from the fence post onto the soul sand. You might have to find a way for the bottom water sources at soul sand level to flow down to sides.

You can put the campfires on the hoppers and the items will be pulled through without being burned. Soul sand and wither roses is probably most lag friendly and hoppers can pull through soul sand so no need for a moving minecart further helping lag. Love the farm Ren! Nicely done

Great video, Ren! I love the editing! Other folks have mentioned using ice blocks for the bottom of the bubblevator, but I wanted to add that you could use lava at creeper-head-height as a lag-friendly alternative to the campfires for the killing mechanism. That being said, it does look sweet with those blue flames!
