The learning curve is definitely something to consider. I have a TrueForm and it took me a while. A long while... The expense was a motivating factor in overcoming that learning curve. I prefer the motorless treadmills because I like to regulate my own pace and use an app for cardio training. It also seems like a lot of treadmills are glorified waterbottle holders (never a good sign when "waterbottle holders" are mentioned as equipment features).

It took me a while to get used to, but don't see myself using conventional treadmill anytime soon. Curved ground mimics natural running - you actually push, lift and jump for your next step, as opposed to just jumping/walking on one spot. It involves so much more muscle even in your upper core. What I actually prefer is to used it barefoot. It lets me control the pace and body posture: my knees are more curved when I'm running, my body is leaning closer to the ground. Why is it important and why I never noticed the importance on a regular treadmill? Joint pain. When you're running on one spot, your whole entire body and legs are more or less straight - putting or ligaments, muscles and joints in a strained mode. With curved treadmill - you follow your body maintains the safest anatomic movement it can. Because you can't run like crazy until you're used to - you won't be breathless either and can go for longer. Definitely would consider getting shoes that fit for this type of machine, which are not your traditional ultrathick and cushioned shoes. You need to be able to feel the ground.

I have the Assault Runner Pro and love that thing. I hate running in my basement, and really don't have a way to easily roll it in and out to get some sun while running, but it's much better than me running on the side of the road and having to doge cars, dogs, and the occasional black bear out here where I live. I don't like running on it more than a mile, but love to run on it in intervals. I'm into Boxing so I'll run 400m, then hit the heavy bag for 3min, then jump rope 3min, then double-end bag for 3min, then assult bike for 3min, then back onto the runner...this simulates 3min boxing rounds and has gotten me good results. I would tell folks to wait until black friday or new years to buy one as they offer a bike for free if you buy a treadmill...I bought it and then sold off the bike, so I essentially purchased the runner for like 2200.

@Demothones2 жыл бұрын
My lower back is trashed from 26 years in the Army and I cannot run on roads or trails anymore without pain. Lots of it. Regular treadmills reduce that somewhat but I found that curves make it far less painful to run, at least on my lower back. Running still sucks a lot. One thing that appears to be missing on that curve is variable friction. The ones that I have used had a lever that would apply friction from zero all the way up to where you had to lean into the bar and push hard with your legs. I used to do intervals where I would run for 10 minutes with little or no friction to warm up and then 5 minutes with a higher level of friction followed by 5 at a lower level and repeat as necessary. I’m not sure how much use I would get out of a curve that didn’t have that option. Moot point since I cannot afford one and I am not a KZbin celebrity/influencer that will get sent one. Great review, though. I do look forward to these videos even though I cannot afford much of the equipment. It is at least motivating me to spend more time in my home gym.

I've done tons of research and from what I can tell, anything cheaper than 3000 has plastic bearings, less bearings or a worse belt. Assuming exterior / build quality is similar. I can't see how those make it 1000+ dollars but for gyms it's way better to get the more durable internals. For home use with low milage I think it should be fine? Not terribly sure tbh.

I personally believe these kind of motorless curved treadmill is meant for HIIT or Crossfit. For regular running I prefer to run outdoor or regular treadmill in winter time, and also the track for the speed workout. I ran on curved treadmill twice and every time I couldn't avoid over-striding running on it. They are so expensive and take up so much space so I will stick with exercise bike for home gym
@GlucksGym2 жыл бұрын
I'd obviously prefer a track or outside but motorized vs non I think this is great for regular running. Yes it's harder but I never thought being pulled along was particularly enjoyable (ok what treadmill is) or authentic. I find this to actually be a bit tough for HIIT or sprints because you get crammed up a bit up front and have to alter your form with your arms so you don't feel like you're going to punch something. Most of them are made in China and most of the price is markup by the importer. I researched one on Amazon that's advertised at over $8,000 and I found the exact same treadmill on Alibaba for $755. Down to the exact bolt placement. You didn't even need to buy them in bulk, you could order a single. In bulk they were cheaper still. The shipping for an individual customer would come close to doubling that price, but still, 8 grand is a giant ripoff. They do this with pool tables too. Brunswick sells a model that is $10,000 here that you can buy for $1,500 from China, plus another $1,200 or so for shipping. It's not a "knockoff," either; Brunswick doesn't build pool tables in the USA any more. The one from China was from the factory that OEM's them for Brunswick. The only difference is you don't have the logo stamped on the metal corner brackets or the name painted on the side, which the Chinese do for clients who order in bulk. Brunswick tables have been imports since about Y2K.

I just don't understand how taking a motor out of the treadmill can make the price go up.

besides the cost of physical components, you're also paying for the engineering and development

Motors and electronics are relatively cheap and readily available from a multitude of sources. The belt/slats and all the bearings and structure underneath this thing are custom made and way more expensive to manufacture than a simple rubber belt riding on top of a flat deck.

Check out the SB Fitness CT250. Made for walking, about $1k. Probably best if she's under 200 lbs. though.
