This was very helpful. I'm almost 60, with pretty much no knowledge in computers. The good news is I don't need a job. I just want to do something that looks like fun. I don't really care (within reason) how much it pays. A friend told me to look into Network Chuck and one other guy. Those were way over my head. This seems to be a good starting point. I'll watch it again. I'm going to find some free training first. When the time comes that I know a lil bit, paying for the classes won't be an issue. I just want to make sure I have a little bit of the basic language and terms down before I do.

But this gave me more confidence and a clearer way to go about this. there's a lot of gatekeeping in this field, so this really helps.

I’ll be honest, I don’t know much about cybersecurity or the tech field in general. Realistically, would you still recommend pursuing a career in tech in today’s environment? It seems like the sector is coming down from a high and is already on a downtrend. From what I’m hearing, the market isn’t really looking good for entry-level positions, as employers want mid to high-level employees. Also, considering the impact of AI in the coming years, is a career in tech something I should even consider for the next 5-10 years, or should I explore other options? I appreciate any advice or insights you have to offer!

Thank You Sandra. This video was very informative. I'm torn on what to do because I always wanted to pursue cyber security. Back in college I was a Security, Risk and Analysis major which I did enjoy the classes. But I had to take a C++ class which killed my interest entirely and lost complete interest. I don't want to learn how to code but I do want to get into tech. I just don't know if maybe I should pursue something else outside of cyber security now.

Consider exploring options like the Google Professional Cyber Security Certification on coursera (if u dont wanna pay the subscription do it on youtube at @Google Career Certificates they upload all the content except assignments or quizez on ) or the Certified in cybersecurity (CC) offered by ISC².

Hi Sandra, your video and insights really helped me so thank you. :) Just want to get your opinion about Sec+. As a cyber security analyst, would you recommend taking it despite having a SSCP from ISC2? Most of the entry level role are looking for Sec+ in particular. @@ChristopherTravis-v9d Mainly because of the cost of maintain these certifications. For ISC2 you have to pay for $135 AMF, then for Comptia you need to pay for $50. I would like to see if there is a value of having two identical certificates. I would rather take CySA+ than Sec+. I just want to get the opinion of others and think about it. If it supersedes my reason then maybe I will have to consider Sec+ over CySa+ then.

Theres time for everything, to whatever mess and deviations along the way there are time for corrections of things altered not just the deeds and mindsets. I enjoy the moment of the present. @WithSandra
@WithSandra 3 ай бұрын
If you're getting into cyber, then I'd go straight for Sec+. It's info heavy but the A+ is2 exams to get fully certified, which means 2x exam fee ($400+), where the Sec+ is already $400, it just doesnt make sense to get the A+ financially unless you're also considering starting a career in IT first then pivoting into cyber. Studying for the Sec+ while in college is perfect timing, and you likely alrdy have technical knowledge on the basics from your degree so you dont need the A+ as a pre-req. Best of luck studying!!

No college. If you put in the same study time you put in for the school into security + and follow up with the certificate route for 4 years, you can get a job and likely surpass or get very close to 100k within the timeframe it takes to complete college. The downside is it is hard to really study a serious topic in depth without the push of a teacher/mentor.

Cyber Security is the most boring tech career in the industry. Not only you will lose your job if your company's data get breached. But you will lose other opportunities if you have bad references. People think it's a rewarding field. No! I will not recommend it unless you can handle the truth of it.

Actually, there's more hiring after a cybersecurity breach based on this Stanford research paper 👀 digitaleconomy.stanford.edu/publications/cybersecurity-hiring-in-response-to-data-breaches/ Though I cant argue about cyber careers being boring since its different based on what you look for in a job, I've had some boring roles but many of them have been pretty fun, also depends on your team/manager! Appreciate your thoughts on this!

Oh stop the pessimistic angle ...if a data structure is attacked...it would just be nature to require by natural default ...to add or improve with more countermeasures. This is simple cause and effect instincts.

This is like saying if a IT Technician causes some issue to go unfixed he or she will go without a job. Or if a Software Developer causes a bug he or she will lose their job. People make these mistakes everyday more than you think, most of the time you keep it except you get trained on how to prevent it in the future
