In the past pączki were full of meat and fat, so probably these traditions have something in common, especially since they have their roots in ancient times before christianity. I wish you a yummy day!😊

Imagine me living in Sweden, where there is a similar tradition, but few days later than Tłusty Czwartek. This year on thursday I went to a polish shop and ate pączki, and few days later ended up buying swedish semla :')

You get _Lent_ some perspective each year. I take it that most people need a lot of perspective and ultimately never have that fundamental shift. It was fun seeing some Polish bakeries though. I’m a big fan of the Polish _poolish_ fermentation method. It makes some great bread.

Milwaukee also dose this! It's a big thing, all the little bakeries sell them, and now even big chains like Pick n Save and Woodmans also do it. Most places had lines out the door, by the time I got off work only the prune filled one's were left 😭

Your romp was delightful and really made me smile. Your hair is marvelous!! Cleveland (Ohio) has a very large Polish population from people who immigrated at the turn of last century (my family included). I have a number of friends who are pączki crazy for "Fat Tuesday," the Tuesday before Lent...and it includes "pączki tours" where people map out the best traditional polish bakeries. I wish that my grandmother and my mother had learned and passed on both the language and more of our families history. I know so little other than all of our family names -- both Polish (paternal) and Slovak (maternal) -- were shortened during the immigrant registration process.
