19:00 Correction Auspex : you can LITERALLY build a 2k point army with just two combat patrols of Adeptus Custodes ! And with auric champions it's not even that bad ! 2 blade champions with enhancement + 2 shield captains + 2 terminator shield captains one with enhacement. 2 guard squads of 4 2 warden squads of 5 2 terminator squads of 2 For a total of 1980 points !! If you have spare cash I'd advise to remove an enhancement and grab one box of sisters so you can have prosecutors screening the backfield but that's it !

THANK YOU for recognizing that not everyone can reasonably do 3d printing! Everyone keeps throwing them out as the solution to the rising costs of minis or the difficulty getting certain kits (looking at you, Basilisks!), but you pretty much described my situation exactly. I live in a small house in Oklahoma, so for at least two thirds of the year I can't have my windows open without exposing a would-be printing space to some significant temperature changes.

I have both an FDM and a Resin printer. Both have been constant headaches; the FDM randomly stops sticking to the baseplate and I have to fiddle with it for hours to fix it, the resin printer has had *2* tank leaks in the last three months, meaning I’m on my 3rd tank and probably 3rd screen too. It isn’t as expensive as it used to be, but they aren’t magic boxes of free money like people pretend they are.

Bambu A1 mini sounds like it would work perfectly for you. It’s small and does not require any airflow since it’s not breathing in poison like resin. $230 for one printer plus 15-25 per army worth of filament is less than buying 2 models of some stuff on GW website.

They cost a little more but are ready to use out of the box and require little to no tinkering to get prints going (outside of making sure you have proper supports set up. My group uses these and we are currently pumping out 1k-1.5k points per unit per person each week

Totally agree. Whenever I build a mini it's a combination of parts from multiple kits so each feels more unique and I think this is the top box for parts (for SM ofc). Just wanted to add these to your list: standout shoulderpads, hands for psykers, servo-skull, apothecary arm, an awesome banner, wrist mounted weapons (bolters and 3 heavy) including the best flamer I've come agross plus a decapitated demonhead trophy. The models themselves can be upscaled to primaris pretty easily or even used as mechanized marines (aka economy thallax) alongside the big boys and they blend in easily with the same color scheme - kind of like a stripped down T800 next to the real arnold, if that makes sense. Love this box so much and I'd wish GW would sell chapter specific upgrade boxes similar to it instead of what we got right now. 42$ of actual value right there.

I bought half a Strike Team box for like $15, it's been great for giving Power Weapons to all my sergeants and characters. Even used the spear shafts to make a crozius and a flagpole for a kitbashed Chaplain and Ancient. And I still got five Grey Knights for Kill Team (needed to kitbash a sixth but when it's painted silver and gold you can't tell).

I would like to point out the Barnes & Noble game "Lair of the Beast". You get 2 Ministorum Priests (with and without vindictor), a Navigator, Janus Draik (a good alternative sculpt to use for a Rogue Trader) and a bunch of other great sculpts from Blackstone Fortress for less than GW prices a single character. It's a valid deal to complement an Agents of the Imperium Combat Patrol, I guess.

I was super happy with it but that's because I'd held off on building any of my existing Death Company or Sanguinary Guard when 10th dropped and rumours of a big refresh started. So I'm now slapping all my firstborn bits on the new models and they're looking great. Plus the jump DC all have firstborn jump packs so now I have 10x primaris jump packs spare to kitbash more assault intercessors with. For those who DIDN'T get the FOMO box though, if you want to make just 10x jump DC and nothing else it's one of the worst deals in 40k - in order to get the full optimal loadout, you would need 2x Jump Intercessor kits at £37 and 2x upgrade sprues @£21.50 each, so the buy-in for 10 jump DC is £117 RRP. You do obviously get a ton of extra bits in the upgrade sprues but it's still insane compared to if they'd just replaced the second sprue in the Jump Int box with a DC-themed one and kept the price the same. Oh also you still need to find a third power fist!

Best ones I can remember buying were the boarding patrols. Gave a solid mix of usable units without being so focused on weird stuff you didn't want to use. It was for DG at least the best way to get those special weapons guys without coughing up another $45-60 US for 3 models.

Totally agree with Auspex when he says about printing not just minis but accessories. A Primaris upgrade sprue for a chapter is £18 RRP for a handful of bits. You can honestly print a shoebox full of these kind of bits for pennies. No more decisions like "who's high enough rank to get an embossed pauldron" everyone gets one!

The new upgrade sprues are £21.50 for a much bigger selection, but admittedly they only have 5 of each type of marine shoulderpad, so for a whole squad of 10 you're looking at like £43 and probably a ton of bits you don't need. I have to admit for Horus Heresy I just printed a load of legion heads and a full set of breacher shields for my MK III took like an hour.

Quite a shame GW is trying their hardest to get rid of bit-rich kits by phasing them out and not including them in CPs. The Dread from the old Ork CP (and SC) was a great source of bits, but now it's "you will buy Snakebitez infantry and you will like it!"

On that front if anyone is interested in eldars the Troupe box has an insane amount of extra bits. I'm talking 6 swords, 6 empty right arms, 6 arms with fusion pistols, 6 "arms with assassin's creed wrist knives" 6 arms with shuriken pistols, 10 chests, 10 heads, 12 masques levels of insane. The only thing you lack are legs and you can get eldar legs for super cheap by buying things like Wyches legs which have appropriately acrobatic poses.

Best i got early on was visiting toy shop in my town owned by very nice and sweet 70 year old man. He had entire shelf of 40k and fantasy figures that were still in pricetags of time he got them. Back in the 90s, my local GW in Leeds city centre had regular "clear-outs" with significant discounts. Damaged boxes, old stock etc. I cleaned up at those. No longer have the armies, but they were the best ourchases ever from GW. A company of marines (Dangles), a company each of Cadians and Mordians with all support were about 50% filled by pickuos from those.

I know people are salty on all this, but it’s not all that expensive compared to other hobbies adults have. Particularly if you’re not pumping + dumping armies like a sweaty meta gamer and actually building up a collection you like. My only Warhammer regret is that I sold the Necron half of the Indomitus box when I should have just built that army cheap when it was an option to.

Yeah it might not feel like good value but if you're actually assembling, painting, and using your miniatures to play the game then you're getting a lot out of them, and if you just want to play 1k point games (and honestly why wouldn't you) you should be able to get everything you need for under $500 which is the price of a PS5 (and video gaming is also pretty cheap compared to a lot of hobbies).

Best deal is mars 3. Get the small elegoo dual wash/cure station with an extra container. 1 Wash cycle in simple green then wash with ipa. Would suggest getting a uv pen for hollow models. Under 300 buck and you have unlimited army potential.

I thought a discounted Leviathan Box with the TYRANID ONSLAUGHT Christmas Box gave a good deal on lots of new models, a 4th set of modern Marines for a future project, rules, cards. I had some old/NIB Tyranids that gives me about 2200 points for a Hive Fleet Kraken Army, I've got 2 models left to paint. The launch boxes are usually the best deal for that edition. I got a NECRON army in 9th with an older additional set for a nice size army I hadn't collected before.

Indomitus was insane value at MSRP when it was released. But it has since been devalued by the Imperium magazine releases. GW, despite their greed, does insane things agains their self interest. The Lord of Contagion in the Dark Imperium box, the Chaos Champion, Helbrute and Lord Kranon in the Dark Vengeance boxes were fantastic minis that never got individual releases. Instead we get garbage like Lord Felthius

15:54 the first issue was £2.99 not £10 however resell prices are definitely £10 and above now that issue 3 has started been released! 2nd Issue was also actually £7.99. I got my first 2 issues on the 9th with the premium sub my friend got issue 2-3 on the 11th with the premium sub (he was a late premium sub) The only issues I've seen in the wild right now in the UK are issue 2 so maybe he got it early idk. Just wanted to point out that the issue 1 and 2 pricing was wrong, not to be that guy (I hate been that guy) but I felt the need to correct that. Also if you subbed from issue 1 with premium it was £2.99 for the first and £2.00 for premium and you get/got the second issue free (normally £7.99) free postage if in the UK which is insane saving!!!

9:36 I think at this point, I'm one of those people that's still in the camp of preferring GW products. I've had people print me out models, and while it's cool to get stuff for free or extremely cheap it still doesn't look as good. More importantly, resin is very brittle and these 3D designers seem obsessed with overcomplicating their models because it looks amazing as an image. Just because you can do something, doesn't mean that you should. And in this case, I would prefer simpler models that didn't snap off gossamer thin strands of resin every time you look at it cross-eyed. Adding plastic detail to a resin core is probably the best way to go. I definitely want to pick up some legs / torsos so I can use up all the extra arms/heads and weapons that I've got. That's a nice compromise.

I don't blame them for not wanting to pay exorbitant prices, but I have never seen any range of 3D models look as good as an army I'm collecting. Maybe in the case of specific Legion stuff, largely because GW just doesn't make it. I'm currently into Death Guard and there's just no DG models out there that I think look as good as the plastic. Ditto for Necrons, CSM, etc. I think only regular Space Marines have stuff that I would prefer to the official kits, and that's just because of the plethora of models out there for that army.

not sure how GW does this but with consoles they are often sold at a loss to get you into the ecosystem and then you buy more hardware and software right. so if GW sells you a starter set at a loss they know they've got you for glue, tools, paints and hopefully more overpriced minis.
