Watching the podcast is like a breath of fresh air in my busy day. My daughter home schools all 3 of her boys...ages 5-15. She started the beginning of the 2019 school year. I'm so proud of her. Her oldest is in grade level 11- college. He is wicked smart and regular school bored him to death.

In Ga we have an amazing free Homeschool system. All online with classes & teachers. We enroll my grandchildren in local sports for social interaction. They have a music room And soon will be scheduled for lessons. The youngest two have never seen the inside of a brick n mortar classroom. With Covid19 they've lost no school time. Are learning at their own pace. But they too are advanced honor students! They are well behaved well rounded children. Priceless in today's "attitudes", I remember the bullying and teachers pets that were challenging. I love they don't ever have to deal with that!

I know how you feel. My daughter cried 24/7 until she was 9 months old and started walking. The doctor said she was bored. When my daughter went to school she was bored also. She would try to help other kids so they could move on and it would cause issues. So the school did some testing and moved her from first grade to second grade. That helped her in school so much.

I am a retired teacher and was also a homeschooling parent. I believe the secret to homeschooling is early reading and a child's early exposure to reading/books. Foster this, and homeschooling will be successful. Also, the earlier started the better. There are better states to homeschool than others, which is important.
@pamelaroden55133 жыл бұрын
I agree reading and comprehension is the key. I started my grand children out right after birth reading to them and picture flash cards with words.

I agree. My daughter has an extremely high IQ, in order to keep her happy and engaged I taught her whatever she wanted me to. IE ancient history, biology, zoology etc, her Dad taught her math. We were even granted permission to go sit in different college classes for free once they realized she was engaged and not disruptive The only reason she went to public school was for the interpersonal interaction. She's an only child. Her teachers worked with us as she grew because they undressed her intelligence surpassed the other kids so they actually allowed her to do some modified lessons teaching other children interesting things not part of the normal curriculum. See I felt it was necessary for her to learn to interact with children her own age because I went to college early and made a point to include the extremely young geniuses in our small group so they stopped feeling like outsiders or freaks

My eldest son was exactly like Marycarl with the whole not sleeping. The difference is when he went to preschool at 2 1/2 years old he was totally different. The first day I took him to the door and he stepped inside, half turned towards me, gave a small wave and and said "see ya mommy". He needed that stimulation and it was so good for him.

For those of you homeschooling (been there and done that) there are facebook Homeschooling groups; they help with curriculum, have swaps, sell their stuff, etc. There is a lot of information out there. We choose K-12 which is a virtual school but you can also just get the curriculum and do it yourself. In Georgia (where I live) they are considered a Georgia school. We even had an actual High School Graduation for the entire state Virtual school (and a Senior Prom).
