I have both. My DWS715 is even the same older version with the better clamp for setting the angle. A ton of guys by a 779 and just buy the replacement part for the handle that includes the laser. It's pretty inexpensive to replace it if the laser happens to burn out. Both the 715 and 779 are fantastic saws for what they are intended for. The nice thing about the 715 is that it's a very simple but robust mechanism for setting the miter. Excellent repeatability that most sliders struggle to match. The difference in motors is due to the 715 having an old school brushed motor. The 779/780 uses a newer brushless motor. The blade on the 715 is a direct drive setup where the blade is bolted directly to the motor's shaft. The 779/780 has the motor mounted back and out of the way and uses a belt or chain to drive the blade. This is nice because in some instances the motor would interfere with the work piece when it's ertical against the fence. Not a huge deal, you would just have to flip things so the motor was moved out of the way. Same experience as you. Both had square fences with zero warp. Both well made and reliable. Both miles ahead of most other miter saws in their price range. For precision, repeatable cuts with trim work, it's hard to beat the 715.

Couldn't agree more I really like both of these saws. After using the 715 for many years I didn't hesitate to get the 779 when I also needed a sliding miter saw. I thought about adding the laser on the 779 years ago, but I'm so use to not using a laser I didn't bother. Thanks for sharing!

Great video👍🏻 I got a 779 for Christmas and then saw the promo deal where you get the dwx 723 stand for an extra $100. I’m actually thinking about returning it today and getting that package deal while I still can. I was really interested in the harbor freight Hercules saw believe it or not with the stand ( I don’t currently have anything else I can mount one to ) but I’m not sure what I want to do. 🤔 HF Hercules or dewalt ? All of my cordless tools are dewalt and I love them, I’ve never owned a dewalt miter saw though, only an older 10 inch craftsman dual bevel miter saw that’s now tired. The HF Hercules has the shadow line led, comes with a better blade, and has a few other bells n whistles similar to the 780🤷🏻‍♂️

You can remove the safety lever on the mounting bracket to save your sanity when removing the saw at the end of the day!

I've actually thought about messing around with that safety lever in the past but never did as it became second nature to manually pry it back. Thanks for sharing, I might have to add this to my to do list!

DWS 780 doesn't have a laser, it uses a LED light which cast the shadow of the blade on the wood to indicate where it's going to cut.
