Some history your viewers may find interesting, Usal Road simply means USA Lumber, the company that used to harvest the redwood trees. The beach you were on was once a thriving lumber mill with a population of several thousand, a school, a church, and at least two saloons! Hard to imagine that now that everything is gone.

we used to do this in a 36 hp VW...60 years before anybody ever uttered the words "adventure motorcycle". hell, it's not the bike.. it's what you do with it. when you are next to the fog horn when it shakes you to your bones... and you cant see 5 feet in front of you for the for... you've got yourself a memory.

Been riding this area many years now, looks like you must've hit Usal beach on a weekday, it gets incredibly crowded on a weekend nowadays. If you didn't know, it's not necessary to get on hwy 101 to connect Needle Point to Usal beach, if you want more dirt....of course it has to be the right time of year though as it is seasonal.

Really enjoyed this series. I cant stay away from the Lost Coast. Went through there for the first time in 2021, on my way back from MOA rally in Montana. Camped off Mattole Road. Next time was 2022, on a big loop of California. Stayed in Crescent City and Garberville. Had planned to return in 2023, but health issues interfered. Now planning to spend an entire week up there in June this year...not only the coast, but deep into Shasta-Trinity.

Another great video. Your attention to detail and videography make your channel stand out. I know the time and effort involved in setting up a shot, shooting it, then editing, adding music and narrating voice over is a TON of work. Add in multiple cameras and a drone, and you barely have time to eat. 😊 I ride ADV but just locally in North Idaho, so I am all armchair traveler when I watch (and share) your work 🙌🏻👍🏻🇺🇸😎 ride safe

From your campsite to USAL Beach is a super nice dirt road "USAL road" I'm shocked you skipped it, its a super fun and beautiful ride. I was there two weeks ago! USAL Beach is a disappointment in terms of human waist and trash, sad for such a beautiful place. Hopefully people will start to care more for it in the future.

Note that USAL beach... on a prime summer weekend... is busy. Usual stuff. Drunks, loud music, dope, parties, etc etc etc. At the north end of the beach area, the USAL road (dirt) road runs about 25 miles. It goes all the way from the USAL beach up to '4 Corners'. 4 Corners is the place where you came out of Needle Rock road (Sinkyone Wilderness) and took the Whitethorn road back to civilization (ala Briceland).

Both times I was up there, 2021 and 2022, the road was closed due to washouts. Planning a week-long stay in the area for this June so who would be best to contact in advance to get information of road state? Thanks!

Ive been riding coastal and back country coast roads for lots of years, Ive been on this route many times. Of course if you come up from Needle Point, take a right and your on the north end of Usal rd....its 25 miles end to end and is rougher on the northern half by far. Usal beach campground, I think they gave up on having bathrooms there, people use various campsites as a bath room The weekends can be extremely full, they have raves there, and huge parties with bands and etc.. Weekdays are a much better bet. Can still be a lot of people.

Glad I discovered your channel. Beautiful locations! Getting ready to swap my Bonneville with a Tiger 1200 Rally. Absolutely love the T120, but the Tiger will fit the way I want to ride much better (longer trips, light off road). Moved back to So Cal after living abroad for over two decades and want to re-discover all the west coast and Calif has to offer (Sacramento area was my second home growing up, Shingle Springs area). Also enjoy going out to Death Valley and other more inland routes in cooler weather.

Man I've been curious to some things as many prolly have but haven't asked... I'm reluctant to even drop the question but since I'm a no body here in the great world of you tube, here it goes. Ha! What tyoe of socks, boxers, under shirts does Mr Sterling wear? What do you guys wear when beating the hard roads and camping multiple weeks like he did on his last 50+ day trip to Canada? I have ABSOLUTELY NOTHING stopping me from making more long distance trips on my gsa but for some reason I continue to come up with more things i "need" before making the next step. What type of drone does he have (not that it's an item on my wish list) that can follow him without banging into all those limbs? Was this video done with the go pro or his new set up? Anyway, love his travels and his professionalism and all his hard work that goes into making these videos.

Sterling, thanks for another great video! I’m curious about your monopod setup. Have you gotten to a point you’re satisfied with it? The one you had on your AZ to BC trip, attached to your pannier, seemed very stable with its two mounting points. I can’t quite make out if your current variation is connected at one point or two. I’m very interested in replicating your monopod idea. Any chance you’ll be doing a video on it? Thanks again.
