Nice and simple. The removable feature is the winner. I believe this will support a lot more weight than you suggest; good news for the 250-300 weight crowd. (Yes, there are a lot of us beefy hammock lovers out there :/ )
@ARCHunter41110 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the comment. I'm sure it could hold more weight but I didn't know for sure and didn't want to give any misinformation. I guess you could use bigger posts too.
@LarryVickery10 жыл бұрын
I think your formula will work fine, save for mushy or boggy ground that might give way. But even then, it would probably be a slow sagging descent to the ground. :)
@ARCHunter41110 жыл бұрын
I could see that happening if the ground wasn't packed tight enough and you were in it long enough but so far I haven't had any issues. Probably would depend on your weight as well.
@LarryVickery10 жыл бұрын
I keep a hennessey hung between 2 trees in my back yard, but when cool weather returns and the skeets retreat, I want to be able to lie and look at the stars on clear nights, and watch rain falling when it rains (clear tarp). So I will set my posts in a nice open space. It would be a gamble to place them in just the right spot, so I will use a portable stand until I do find the sweet spot. Otherwise, i could find myself digging too many holes (two is my limit, ha)
@ARCHunter41110 жыл бұрын
That's an awesome idea with the clear tarp I think I might try that.

Since the posts inside the pipes aren't permanently attached, you can make other pvc holes in your yard and move the hammock to different locations if you wish. I made 4 holes, two close to the house for shade and privacy and the other two near the pond to enjoy the sunset at night.

I've thought of this many times and wondered why people would cement the posts in when they could make it like you did - who wants to look at two posts sticking out of the ground when not in use??? The end caps prevent little feet from tripping as well as animals from falling in. Nice touch with the round fence posts - I always had my mind set on 4x4s, but I like the round posts better. Happy hangin'!

I had a similar problem of not having trees or solid supports for my new hammock. I have looked for ideas online & mostly were for use with trees. This video has reinforced my idea of sinking tubes in my lawn for removable upright posts. My original idea was to use metal tubes, but the suggestion of using wooden posts seems most useful. Thanks again for the video. Best of luck for your future.

Fantastic idea! I was faced with a similar dilemma earlier this summer with where to hang my ENO at home. No trees whatsoever in my small back yard and only one red maple tree in my front yard. I wish I had though of your removable post idea or seen your video sooner. Instead, what I did was buy a pair of 4x6 ten foot tall fence posts ($20 ea.) and the 2 bags of Quickcrete like you used. I was only able to get my holes dug about 24-26" deep and not much larger around than the posts themselves, so when I inserted the quite heavy posts, they stood straight up because there was so little room around them in the holes I dug. I filled the remaining space with the Quickcrete and water only. Unfortunately, I had a slight miscalculation and dug my holes 22' apart, which has created a challenge getting a comfortable hang but I overcame that obstacle by hanging my ENO from two points on a paracord ridge line (though it stretches badly) tied between the two fence posts. Using my Atlas Straps at 22' made the hammock too rigid, even with the straps at the highest point on the posts. Less rigid put me on the ground in the hammock, so the ridge line technique had to be employed. It's a pain to mow around these posts so your idea is really a great one! Kudos!

Thanks I really appreciate that. You can always remove the posts you already put in and try this idea. Or if you can't remove them just cut them off at the ground and start over.

Great idea! I'm new to this but how do you attach the atlas straps to the posts exactly. Are the ends of the straps simply clinging onto the top of the poles and that's it or are they more securely attached via a bolt in the ground? I can't seem to tell. I want to add a hammock in my backyard and am fairly new to the DIY craft so I just want to make sure my hammock is secure and doesn't fall once I install it. Again excellent video, looking forward to taking on this project!

The straps just wrap around the tree or post in this case and your weight will keep them tight and in place. It's pretty simple and there are plenty of videos showing how to use the straps. Good luck and I hope you enjoy it.

@nealcengage3749 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the idea. I did this over the weekend but now have a problem. My Lowe's does not carry the round 4 inch posts. I went to Tractor Supply and their posts are not accurate at the 4 inch measurement. They say they are 4 inch by 8ft but they were all just a bit larger than 4 inches. Do you think 3.5 inch by 6.5 feet would work?
@ARCHunter4119 жыл бұрын
It should work you just won't be able to bury your posts as deep because if you bury them 2 to 2.5 feet then that will only leave you with 4 feet above the ground and that might not be enough to get your hammock off the ground. You could try getting the 4 inch posts from tractor supply and sanding down the portion that goes into the ground just enough to slide in. Also try different lumber yards and see what they have.

Hi ARCHunter411. I saw the round posts at my Lowes are 3.75 in diameter. Are yours a true 4 inch or are they 3.75? If you have 3.75 I will feel better about the potential play in the holes with 3.75.

Yes mine are 3.75 and then I wrapped duct tape around them to take the play out of them

AWESOME idea!! i think i'll do it this summer instead of buying a real hammock stand

Thank you. It will probably be cheaper also if you already have the basic tools.

I like it! No trees around. Build your own removable "trees."

Good job! I'd probably just have been lazy and used the free for one support , and with my 265 frame I might wanna angle the post back a little ha.
@ARCHunter4119 жыл бұрын
I was going to do that but I wanted to maximize the shade.
@trooper22219 жыл бұрын
ARCHunter411 oh heck yea, gotta have the shade, see I'm not only lazy but I didn't think lol
