Many people are super competitive when it comes to duplicating drills etc (me as well). I want to be the best I can be but not at the cost of “stacking the deck” so to speak. By that, I’m talking about the process of getting your race gun, your OWB holster, and warming up a ton prior to testing your abilities on a drill. That’s fine! I do the same thing sometimes. Let us not forget to prepare for the self defense situation though.
Always give yourself a few dry runs with your set up for the day, and always run some plain clothes and concealed carry set up drills on the range when you can.
The cornerstone of being a Green Beret or any other Special Operations Soldier is training and knowing the basics! As you can see, there is not much flare or pizazz to these few drills shown. Don’t be fooled though, there are many important components that are being worked that apply to many more complex drills. I suggest doing these basic drills until you have acceptable accuracy and speed (safety always first). Once you are easily executing these drills, instead of graduating to other drills, add some stressors to the mix. A few things you can add that will give you some stress and better simulate a real life threatening scenario are: time standards (shot timer), physical activity, target variations (smaller, target ID, hostage etc), or even an audience of peers watching you.
After that, get some force on force training with training munitions that really puts your skills to the test in a 2 way gun fight. Remember, the flat range with no bad guys is the easiest place to execute shooting drills, you can only go so far there.
Gun: Gen 3 Glock 19 stock except for Trijicon sights
Holster: Made 2 Carry holster (IWB)

Tell Karl I said Hi. I am the old Jarhead that met him at the NRA convention in Houston this year (2022). Just a suggestion: Now that I am no longer a young warrior, I maintain my skill set for CC by shooting the Air Marshals Qualification on a weekly basis by shooting the entire qual or certain stages. Mastering that accuracy and par time are essential IMHO. Those 7 stages I have found are the most reality based situations a good guy with a gun will face in a self defense situation. Like your videos my brother.

Thanks Zee and the crew! Very important that you got across to train these drills in every day clothing, too many guys I know want to practice EDC stuff in full kit.

This was a good reminder that I should not neglect the obvious for the fun. I carry my Glock every single day - I do not carry an AR every day. I can get caught up running rifle drills every time I hit my range, but truthfully, the chances of me using my Glock to engage a threat from conceal carry are greater than engaging a threat with an AR. Reality Check! Also, if you look at how many rounds an LEO expends during a gun fight, I think there's a good chance we will have to reload. Pistol reload from a pocket using gross motor skills? Oh hell yes, I need to work on this. ASAP. Thank you TR and thank you Zee for showing us a few good drills

Excellent video as usual. What I start all new shooters on are Texas CHL proficiency test (20 rounds at 5 yards, 20 rounds at 10 yards, 10 rounds at 15 yards which includes quick firing with flash picture, double taps, and slow controlled shooting) and once they pass that consistently I move them up to the FBI qualification test. Once they can pass 2 formally recognized standards that cover the bare minimum, that's when I focus on things like Wyatt protocol, shooting drills like this, etc.

"Retired civilian scumbag" ??? Sir, the group you belong to now is called "Militia" the oldest defensive force of this nation! Men of the Militia fought April 19, 1775 in the Battle of Lexington and Concord and there after...at that time the US Military or its predecessor not even existed! We have no uniforms, no insignia, no marching music...humble people wishing for peace and freedom and ready to defend it. I think you fit right in...

Badass drill Zee. Gonna have the wife work on this one. Shes getting too focused on staying static while on target and not looking for cover. But at least her groupings are awesome. Its almost like a honeymoon every time we go to the range.

This is a great video because it shows practical skills for the average guy (low speed medium drag.) What I would like to see is an overview of the different carry options as well as the strengths and weaknesses that come from each option. But yay #teamZee Video!

There are plenty of complex and awesome drills out there. My approach for the average joe is to help them be highly effective at implementing foundational tasks. Drawing and shooting acceptably accurate in a timely manner is a good baseline.👊👊👊 (why do I always shoot 2 when I say I’m going to shoot one??🤷🏻‍♂️ more is better I guess)

There’s no rush to holster IWB after a firefight. If I have to I deliberately remove the holster from the waistband before returning the weapon back into the holster. Too much stress , adrenaline, tachy psych, etc to deal with on top of trying re holster into an IWB holster. Especially in the dark, with multiple layers,of clothing, maybe even taken some hits from the opponent. Last thing I need is a shot to the groin.

My best advice to a CCW holder is get out to a USPSA/IPSC/IDPA match and shoot. You don’t have to be a serious competitor or care about winning a match. You will learn your shortcomings and get better while experiencing odd shooting positions and shooting under stress you wouldn’t get on a static range. It’s really the best practice a civilian can get without spending $1000’s on training classes.

I gotta add the NOW drill to my book of drills. Mag dumps are hard to perfect. You have to draw to a perfect grip, you must have perfect timing with your recoil, and your trigger cadence has to be dead on. Anybody can just spray fast rounds down range, but I'm talking about having consistent split times, and a tight shot group. I run a lot of drills, but this is something that I need to practice more. Thx, brother. Not gonna lie... The main reason that I don't, is because it's a "costly" drill to practice. lol

Well, I caught shit for this but I always do a couple dry fire drills from concealment. Clothing affects the range of motion or just the ability to get your weapon drawn cleanly and safely. My buddy thought it was stupid, I'm just trying to stay above ground. Thanks for the info and your sacrifice.
