Hey i want ask something. I have a canon 100D if i record a video 1080p with SD Card Sandisk Ultra 48MB/s (SD HC 10) after 5 second my video stopped automaticly i dont know why this things happend, but when i used the V-Gen (SD HC 4) it keep recording and it was weird because my V-Gen is much slower, it was 10-20MB/s can you explain this? I have no idea cause v-Gen is more cheaper than my Sandisk and my sandisk cant even hold 1080p?!!!

Dude, thank you. For years the setting of shutter speed, aperture and ISO was a mystery to me. But you video makes it so clear, and you give an order for how to deal with them: framerate, shutter speed, aperture ISO. I get it. A huge light just came on. And the variation use the faster lens really helps. Great teaching. Thanks!

I recently bought a Canon 80D for my interior remodeling channel and I've watched a lot of videos on manual settings and trying to understand how each function works. This is by far the most practical and informative video I've watched about IOS and Aperture. I have never used a camera so this lingo is completely foreign to me. So when you applied each setting to a real-life situation (step by step) everything clicked in my head. And I finally understand these settings. Thanks for taking the time to do this. I look forward to using your style of videography in my videos. It's very much the style I'm looking for opposing to other photographers setups i've seen. I've also noticed the halo light adds a nice glowing ring inside your eyes. Very effective for sexy appeal jk lol Thanks, man!

Careful with that aperture though! You don't want it to get so shallow that a slight shift in your position in front of the camera causes you to get out of focus. With a nifty 50 lens, I wouldn't go up to F1/8. I'd go about F/4. FroKnowsPhoto has a great video DSLR guide. I highly recommend it. Helped me out a lot!

Great explanation! DSLR cameras can be complicated to someone that isn't familiar with photography/video, when they first buy one. I am a realtor and bought a Nikon D5100 thinking it would automatically make my photos look better, paid about $800 maybe 5 years ago and hated it because I had no idea how to use it. Understanding the settings is super important and makes all the difference. I'm going to start doing videos/vlogs in my office at night and this will help so much! Thanks!!!

Thanks for this! I initially set my new T6i up to shoot on Auto WB with a few adjustment to saturation, contrast, etc based on another video's suggestions and my video looked so light and my skin ended up looking very magenta after youtube compression. I searched youtube again and came across your tutorial. That grey card trick really helped, tremendously. I played with contrast and saturation but overall my skin doesn't look magenta and video was vivid. The old footage looked so washed up in comparison! Your set up is great! Thanks again :D

I just bought a variable ND filter for this precise reason. That way I can keep my shutter speed at double the FPS, keep the aperture wide open and the ISO the lowest all while letting the filter cut some light to get the perfect exposure. Ive also found the variable ND filter indispensable for shooting video outdoors and being able to keep my shutter speed at double the FPS while still getting a perfect exposure. Otherwise this is a very well explained video.
@garrettmediaservices22147 жыл бұрын
I 2nd the ND filter. It's a better option than changing the speed, no good camera kit should be without one.

Hey there...I'm 100% not bashing you just letting you know that after doing some extensive research I found out that the grey side is actually for setting exposure and it has become a common myth over the years that it it also perfect for white balance, however the white side of you're card is actually what should be used to set white balance. The colours will be be more accurate that way, I tested it myself...you get more of a yellowish hue in your pics/vids when you use the grey side. Feel free to check it out and have a great day :)

Hey Sean, Thank you for creating this video. It confirmed that I’m doing some things right but my challenge is in locking down my shot after everything is set up. I spend hours getting everything set up ( including having my 82 yr old mom sit in as my double) and when I turn off the camera, everything goes back to fuzz! I know that people who crank out videos regularly don’t spend hours setting up their shot every time. It’s such a terrible use of time and so frustrating! I use a Canon T6i, 50 mm lens, and have lots of good lighting. I’d appreciate any feedback you might have for me and again, AWESOME video!👍🏼❤️👍🏼❤️😀😀😀

Biggest challenges: One of the biggest before I started my channel was trying to narrow onto a focus (I wanted to do films about agriculture, nature education, comedy/skits, interviews/documentary, animations, etc). It was preventing me from starting. So I decided to *just start* without constricting my focus and knowing I could split off subjects into new channels later if something became more popular -- letting my first attempt be an "umbrella channel" in the way Vice has many different series, for example. This was pretty standard "paralysis by analysis". Now that I started my biggest obstacle is self-criticism -- that could be self criticism about the quality of the final product (you can always "keep polishing" but you need to "just ship it" as Seth Godin would say) or self criticism that I'm not putting out enough stuff yet as I get my creative legs under me. I also find it challenging to balance creating stuff I care about in an appealing way vs. giving in to the temptation of "doing what is popular" (lets say, daily vlogging commentary on pop culture with lots of snappy cuts and catchy thumbnails) to try and reach more people. I know there is a middle ground to being authentic and doing it in a high quality way that people want to consume (like a skilled chef making vegetables appealing to a junk food eater), I just have to be patient with myself. I feel confident enough to keep stumbling forward though and appreciate the high quality content a channel like this puts out to help us newbs. Side note: Recently bought a 70D as my first DSLR for video and was pumped that the demo camera was the same model... I've been struggling with getting exposure settings correct with this thing and its very convenient to be using literally the same device as I watch.

+Think Media Grey cards are 50% gray. Camera's are calibrated for such, that's why it's used to create a custom WB. A white card, will not be an accurate WB and could cause problems for some colours in certain lights. 1 trick I learned as well, for a incident WB reading, place a polystyrene cup over your lens, go to the subject you'll be photographing, point your camera back to where you'll be standing, set you camera, walk back to where you're gonna take the shot, remove cup, take picture. works perfectly, as good as if it's would be with a sphere on a light meter! Nifty trick, really works!
