Victorinox Swiss Army Climber Pocket Knife Review. This is probably one of the BEST EDC KNIVES EVER!
I would HIGHLY recommend this knife! It is the best budget every day carry knife ever!
I've owned this knife for around 5 to 7 years, but have carried it almost everyday for the last 2 years. This is a little powerhouse that has all the tools you need for all the daily tasks you come across. This is the best EDC knife I've owned so far. It is also a great urban EDC knife because of it's low profile. All of these great things for a price of only $28.99 on amazon!

I have a Super Tinker, which is pretty much identical except it has the Philips instead of the corkscrew. It is an amazing tool, especially since I also added plus scales with a pen and a pin. Although four layered knives like the Huntsman are popular, the extra layer only gives you one more function that isn't that useful if you're in the city like I am. I think the three-layered Climber or Super Tinker are the most balanced in terms of giving you the MOST ESSENTIAL tools in a small package. As for those who like to go even smaller, the two layered Compact is nice, but it is more expensive despite lacking the awl, backup blade, and extra screwdriver. The can opener on it isn't as good either. If I was forced to recommend only one SAK to anyone, I would tell them to choose the Climber (or the Super Tinker, if like me, corkscrews aren't their first choice.)

I bought my Climber a few weeks ago as I wanted something lighter than my Leatherman Wave and with a non-locking blade so it can be legally carried for everyday use in the UK where I live. I used the awl within 2 hours of buying the Climber, to put am extra hole in my belt. I also bought a pin to go in the hole concealed by the corkscrew as well as a mini screwdriver for glasses etc. that fits in the corkscrew. I've used the corkscrew to undo tight knots and the parcel hook to twist a pair of wires together to wire up a loudspeaker. The can opener works amazingly well. I also like the scale tools which are such a feature of the SAK.

@AK's Outdoor Gear and Reviews Imagine if they remodeled the hook into a package opener like they did on some Leatherman models (Wingman). That'd be awesome to use instead of gunking up a blade or you could scrape a ferro rod really well with it.

The Compact is good but for me the Climber packs in a lot of extra good tools for just that extra layer - an extra blade and I use mine more than the larger blade, mostly for opening packaging; a reamer/awl, the best of it's 3 backtools; and 2 good screwdrivers, you can easily use the can opener small one on Phillips screws provided they are not recessed. Plus you can use the bottle opener for light prying, I think the combotool is much thinner.

I do like the Spartan, Climber, Huntsman, Explorer and Ranger. Anything else gets a little too big. I have multiple examples of each with different scales/limited editions. The knife I keep in my desk at work is a climber (recently upgraded from matt red scales to new shiny black ones). Day to day at home I have an Explorer to hand but have other ones dotted around the house such as the Alox Pioneer, Huntsman and Alox Cadet. Rarely carry one around in my pocket unless I'm out for the day and think I'll need one.

I like a wood saw and metal file/saw on my multitool, so I'd probably go Ranger, at the least. I'm still thinking SwissChamp beyond that. ;) That's just me though. Everyone has their own preference of how compact or light the multitool is. Some people consider any 91mm too big, and they only go 58mm. To each their own. :) I just got a RangerGrip 58 (130mm long) and have no problem with it in my pocket, on top of my other multitool (21 in 1 BIBURY pliers multitool). I just don't mind the weight at all.

Yeah gotta have the saw, it's too important. Also, the screwdriver on mine never gets used, but I do use the corkscrew to hold in a needle, as well as some tinder from tortoise gear. Additionally, the corkscrew will hollow the pith out of a stick in no time flat.

Thank you! I own one and have one question: Do all the Awls on every 91mm Saks have side to side rattle(Between liners)? I've tested several ones and all of them were like this, not as solid fixation.. My 84mm Sportsman awl is solid..I love my Climber if there was not this very little issue..

There are two better models that have as good, or better versatility than the Climber. The 'Victorinox Super Tinker' has all the tools of the Climber, but drops the corkscrew...making a thinner knife. Whereas, the 'Victorinox Deluxe Tinker' adds a NICE pair of pliers and drops the corkscrew...giving you more utility. I have both, but when touring (on my motorcycle), I carry the Deluxe Tinker, as it has almost everything you need for 'away-from-home EDC'.

Which model of Swiss Army knife is "better" is really a personal thing depending on which tools you tend to use. For me, as an urban carrier, the corkscrew is a must on an EDC since I, and many of my friends, drink wine. The knife blades and scissors get a lot of casual use and are always handy. The bottle opener gets used a lot when I am abroad in countries where beer and drinks don't usually have twist off caps. The can opener gets minimal use as a rule. In short, the Climber has pretty well everything I might need on the spur of the moment plus a bit more in a small and lightweight package. I can see that the tools on the Tinker would be great for you as a motorcyclist. For me, though, the pliers would just be extra weight and the lack of a corkscrew would be a bother. The great thing about Swiss Army knives is that they have such a variety of models that you are almost sure to find a knife that is ideal for you :-)

Would be good if it didn't have the stupid corkscrew. Most useless thing unless you really really REALLY love wine. Could do without the bottle and can opener too. I could probably count on one hand the number of times I've ever needed to open a glass bottle or a metal can.
@AKOGR
@AKOGR 2 жыл бұрын
@Jay 156 I don't often use the corkscrew a ton but sometimes I use it when I need a fine picking tool. And to be honest I don't use the can or bottle openers that often...for their intended purpose that is. They make great lightweight pribars though. Other than those not being used all the time, this knife is super useful. Thanks for watching and leaving a comment!

The corkscrew has many other uses like scraping, undoing tight knots, drilling a small hole and it also creates a spot to carry additional tools like tinder and screwdrivers or a Ferro rod. You can also swap out the toothpick for a ferro rod and then you have a fire starter kit on you at al times.
@conan5885

You say you used your SAK for things that are "not supposed to", the whole purpose and fun of SAK's is using the tools for things you are "not supposed to" How much fun and interesting is saying: "oh i opened a beer bottle with my bottle opener" or "oh i opened a can with my can opener"...? BOOOOORING....!! The opener layer is probably my most used layer, and i open cap bottles very seldom, and opened literally 2 cans in 40 years of SAK use, yet that layer is vital to me. Most of my SAK use is for "things it's not supposed to" It's called "the MacGyver" gene. 😉

@@AKOGR The company was named after the founder's mother "Victoria" and you can see this stamped on early blades. Some decades later They changed the name to "Victorinox" which is a combination of "Victoria" and "inoxydable" (means rustproof in French). The way it was meant to be pronounced is to start saying "Victoria" but drop the "a" and replace itwith "nox" i.e. Vik- toe-ree-nox. Here is the owner (Carl Elsener) of Victorinox speaking about it : kzbin.info/www/bejne/oJfSY6yoh8uMm80 .
