Very pleased with my Skoda Enyaq IV80x with folding tow hitch, its an excellent towing car. I ordered mine without a heat pump, without matrix lights, without ACC, anything that I considered a waste of money. This is my 5th BEV so I knew what I could do without.

You have hit the nail on the head Mark. Like a 5 series and Lexus were motoring bargains in the secondary market, these will bleed money and be attractive after 2 - 3 years. Let the first guy get hosed on depreciation, save 20 - 30% or more after 2 - 3 years, still under warranty, low miles etc. I think this secondary market is what will convert the masses, not $100k Teslas and so forth.

What surprises me is that some of these luxurious, well engineered and very expensive cars (BMW, Audi and Genesis) are at the mercy of a hit and miss charging network. While these cars are very impressive that doesn’t help when most the non-Tesla chargers at the motorway services aren’t working and there is a queue at the one remaining charger. Maybe these companies need to get together and start providing chargers for their customers, otherwise all they are is very expensive commuter cars.
@stephencollins7714

I agree but with Tesla starting to open up the supercharger network, things may start to change for the better. In the UK we have soooo much catching up to do in terms of infrastructure. I think part of the reason why premium EV's are popular is because they are aimed at people with home charging capabilities who do not generally have to reply upon the charger network.

How is a Tesla model 3 a better buy than the Y? The Y is extremely comfortable and I’ve had absolutely no problems so far. Also passengers in the back are extremely comfortable unlike in the 3 where if you’re tall and bigger built, you’re extremely uncomfortable getting in and getting out of the car if your not squished by the driver and front passenger seat.

Why is no-one calling-out car manufacturers for using the transition to EVs as an opportunity to MASSIVELY inflate their prices? Yeah, it's a more expensive and reasonably immature tech, with the potential for prices to reduce once the market has matured... blah, blah, blah, blah, but the prices quoted in this list are ludicrous and no-one bats a feckin' eyelid. GREED, GREED, GREED, GREED.

Cheapest at the back? How about most people can’t afford most of them
@michalrybinski3233
@michalrybinski3233 Жыл бұрын
Do you have bed and access to fresh food and water daily? MOST people on this planet do not. "Most" does not matter. Also, you can get second hand EVs pretty cheap even for "poor people" standard - those presented here are not for someone earning minimum wage, but second hand Nissan Leaf can definitely be with proper financial planning.
@stephencollins7714
@stephencollins7714 Жыл бұрын
@@michalrybinski3233 Bit harsh, he probably has access to a car and wants (or feels that he is being forced into) an EV. The price and practicality differential between ICE cars and EV's is not justifiable or sustainable for most buyers. You go ahead and but a use Nissan Leaf with a 50 mile range if you like but that is not the answer for everyone, we need more affordable new EV's which in turn will provide more affordable used ones. With the enforced shift to EV's the goalposts have moved significantly with no material assistance from the government to assist people in making the change. I think this will result in a lot of older more polluting ICE cars hanging around for much longer than they should in the used market which is clearly short sighted and counterproductive.
@michalrybinski3233
@michalrybinski3233 Жыл бұрын
@@stephencollins7714 prices of used EVs dropped quite a lot in the last couple of years, and with the influx of new ones in the next two or three years the old generation of Hyunday Ioniq and similar will only get even cheaper then they are atm (and you can get them even now for 12-13k with 150-180 miles range). Also, the fact that people WANT big range doesn't mean they NEED it, 100 miles is more than average family drives daily in the UK so the fact that one cannot afford Tesla with 300 miles range does not mean one cannot drive Hyundai or Nissan with 150 miles range.

Fine for cities but really not much use for distance driving. On a run from for ex the UK to the south of France it would take many hours longer compared to a diesel or petrol car. Not very appealing having to sit at a charger when filling a tank takes 5 mins. Also, travelling to remote areas it's possible to take a can of fuel with you in case of no fuel station available, with a EV this extra range isn't possible. Many fall for the TV ads picturing a EV disappearing into the wilds when this isn't practical. A full EV is a very flawed car. Hybrids or Hydrogen is the way forward not EV's...

Model Y 0-60 in 4.8s and E-tron 0-60 in 8.5s Model Y also has longer range and charges faster. They cost about the same (no real options for the Tesla). So, why again is the Audi better than the Tesla?
@stephencollins7714

0-60 is really irrelevant for these “family” cars so Tesla has just overshot. I guess Audi has better perceived build quality and is closer to being an SUV but I too struggle to see why the Y it is not higher.

PAY ATTENTION NOW --- YOU'VE BEING LIED TO ALL THE TIME: A new study found that fueling electric vehicles costs roughly $17 per gallon. In its paper "Overcharged Expectations: Unmasking the True Costs of Electric Vehicles," the Texas Public Policy Foundation stipulated that the hidden costs of fueling EVs drastically outweigh its low upfront fueling costs. The hidden costs come from an increased burden on the energy grid exerted by charging stations, and an enormous amount of federal subsidies.
