Best engine oil Made in USA or Japan?

This is cool! We used to do similar testing 20 years ago in a oil seal lab I worked in. We froze the oils at -40c over night and check flow rates. NAPA always did well.

I know a man who worked for Shell as a oil additive purchasing agent. He told me that the API and the Japanese JASO work very closely with each other coming up with oil classifications and standards for modern engines. I'm betting that STP doesn't make any engine oil themselves. They probably farm it out to the lowest bidder.

I use that idemitsu rotary engine 10w30 oil for my mazda rx8 I imagined that in the friction test it was going to win idemitsu since for those rotary engines so that they do not suffer from wear on the apex seal.

You can have the best oil in the world but if you changing it 15 -20 k miles doesn’t matter your engine won’t have longevity

I changed Amsoil SS every 15,000 miles in my Lincoln MKZ 3.5 L V6 and sold it at 200,000 miles to get a SUV. The Lincoln ran great, no oil usage, no smoke.

Interesting test sir. I have used Idemitsu for both my engine and transmission. Because its a 12 years old car, with more than 100k mileage , i use 10w40. It costs $35 here in Malaysia, STP 10w40 is cheaper at $30, I don't mind to use it but hard to get hold of the product here. Anyway,great job 🤘

Good to see that you're updating your testings, good for you. Even though Idemitsu is a Japanese oil the lubricant your testing is made in the US so it was really a US vs US competition. Please test Pentosin 0w-20, Pentosin is a German oil manufactured in Germany would be nice to see how it does. KEEP THE GREAT WORK.

the oil is oil it doesnt matter, the reason its made for rotary engines at least that bottle was because idemitsu has better wear protections. you want better protection with rotarys. you would still be able to use it in a car.

It comes down to how much fresh oil is in a motor personally. I’m sure a motor that see’s consistent oil change an moderate operation lasts the longest. Over a lot of oil changes and high operating conditions.

Shell owns quaker and Castrol is stand alone I belive. Castrol is pretty dam good for durable oil film and hot temps. But I don't think stp is owned by anyone else besides energizer.
